I put off taking psychiatric meds because I thought they were placebos/dangerous brain damage drugs and would ruin my life. Now I am 30 and my life is still fucked up. I have run out of time and I realize my life was probably ruined by my avoiding drugs. At least it would have been something different.

Do you remember what you were taking? Some drugs are okay, but others were made that will make you lose your cognitive functions i.e. the stuff that crazy people at institutions take that make them zombies.
I got prescribed something like that and I refuse to take it so now it's piling up in my dresser drawer.

Yeah, people worry too much about the potential side-effects and risks of psych meds that they overlook the certain risks of mental illness.
>>A family friend was convinced by some hippy fuck to stop taking her lithium while on a yoga retreat in India - had a psychotic break, ripped the toilet from the ground and hospitalised someone with it before her dad had to fly over two mental health nurses from the states to escort her back. Fucking expensive.
>>One of my patients from about a fortnight ago was convinced to stop taking her antidepressants during her pregnancy because fuckwits on some motherhood forum told her they're unnatural and could harm the baby - she dropped into major depression and tried to CUT THE BABY OUT OF HER STOMACH WITH A KITCHEN KNIFE. She's just lucky her husband got home from his conference early and was able to stop her.
These are just the most dramatic ones. I honestly couldn't count the number of people who've just relapsed into non-functioning depression, mania or psychosis because they thought they'd be safer without their meds.

no they most certainly wouldn't have helped much
SSRI's and other antidepressants aren't too bad, there's some evidence that continual use of them can eventually lead to an increase in neural growth in the hippo campus (the current subject of research for depression)

if you were given antipsychotics it's a damn good thing you didn't take them

fucking auto correct, now we're off to fucking hippo school

Please don't mate. Talk to your psych and at least get him to prescribe an alternative medication. He would have prescribed whatever it is because he thinks it's the best treatment for you but if you explain you're not going to take because the side-effects are too severe then he can at least put you on to something that might not be as effective but will have lower sides and at least you'll comply with it.

Also, whatcha supposed to be on?

That's very interesting, could you tell more stories about your patients?

I never took anything. I got prescribed Lexapro once and didn't end up taking it because I didn't want to become violent or have my dick/testicles fall off. I probably have ADD or anxiety or something. I especially didn't want to be diagnosed with ADD because I hate going to doctors and you have to talk to them every month to get your prescription refilled for Ritalin/Dexedrine.

Meh... I'm not that crazy. I just am hypersensitive/agoraphobic/moody/irritable/can't concentrate on anything or motivate myself, ever.

SSRIs are shit from what I've read, I agree. I need to get some Wellbutrin though. Fuck this. I tried everything else or to tough it out and it was just a fuckload of wasted time. I still don't have a degree.

Pic related, I'm supposed to take saphris. It melts underneath the tongue. It makes me kinda slow down thinking but it also makes me tired and not want to move and lighter than air and eat a lot of food. I was taking 10mg twice a day but I told him It's not good for me and we're lowering it but I already stopped a while ago.

You'd probably benefit from some medication because you don't sound so bad. If it's just anxiety or add then you could actually get some good stuff. So what if you have to go back every month, that's a long time.
