Being a NEET is NOT accepted in Japan, it is highly looked down upon and you will be scorned and snubbed in all areas of Japan if you are seen to not be contributing. Everybody has to do their bit, even the housewives do what's called 'paarto' where they go out during the day and help water plants and clean up streets and shit.
Same goes for anime and video games, it's generally only acceptable for you to lay on your ass playing games and watching cartoons if you're a teenager who's already busting your ass off at school.
