I had one minecraft world I really liked, before they streamlined the world generator and it had wild stuff like sky high water geysers and huge cliffs and flying islands and all sorts of cool shit.
Somehow my file got erased and I lost so much progress like my flying castle and all my different inhabited islands and my hell temple and shit and every time I fire up minecraft again I can never get a world even half as cool and quit playing.
If I could get that file back or something close to it I'm sure I could recapture the spark but no matter how many worlds I try to make they are flat, boring and green with no magic to them.

Haven't played since it's vanilla realease out of beta. Had a personal world that I built a massvie minecart viaduct system, also built the hatch from LOST. Uh, there was also a massive sinkhole that I repurposed as a mine.
After years of updates, the world got really unstable without any fixes, and ai completely broke, dogs that I'd tamed had complete free will and they eventually all ended up in my joint mines and caverns under the map unable to get out of small pits.
It was really cool actually. I can still memerize the route from cave system B to the sinkhole, it took about 20 minutes of travel through various mines, caves and lava pits.
Never played online though.
tfw masochist enough to never want to play on single player, so dedicate hours and hours and hours on a building/town/ship/whatever knowing that someone's going to grief it or the server will just end

One of my projects is building a city. So far this is pretty much the only angle that looks okay and city-ish enough, but it's slowly getting bigger.
My favourite thing in minecraft to do, however, is to build train tracks. When you add some limitations that it has to be realistic, it gets fun to try to find the best way to lay them, running back and forth in the landscape and plan, and when they are finished, seeing how they follow the landscape while still doing the necessary modifications. Hard to show off my train network, but can try in another picture.
