I overachieved in high school, honestly. I didn't really have social skills and struggled to make friends until like senior year, but I played varsity sports, went to parties, and did a bunch of cool shit. I was on the peripherals of a bunch of friend groups, was a back of the lineup tennis player, and most parties I went to consisted of me trying to find people I could talk to. I never really felt like my existence was important, if that makes any sense. I mean hey I had some fun though.

Autistic and everyone pretty much knew it, whether they would have used that word or not. But in general I was pretty well respected. I got good grades, teachers liked me, and I was too polite to turn someone down if they asked for help.

I was edgy for a while and then on/off thereafter.
Most people that ended up talking to me told me that I looked like I'd have punched them in the face if they approached me. They all told me I was very nice after they met me.
Most people didn't talk to me though and I just stuck to my small fluctuating friend group.
Ended up getting a girlfriend in junior year and I'm still with her years later.
Highschool wasn't great but unfortunately they were probably the best years of my life.

When there wasn't enough room in the car, I'd get left out. When we were walking down a sidewalk, they'd walk with each other and I had to be the one to walk behind.
That was the closest I ever got to becoming a normie (this was a semi-weeb tier group of people as it was). Halfway through my senior year they slowly distanced themselves from me. By summer, when I wanted to hang out, they just made up bullshit/ignored me.
Now I have 0 friends, can't make any more. Thought getting a burger job would help. Work with teens and I look a few years younger than I am (21), so I thought they'd be open to me.
They're not. I never get invited to their backyard parties, or to see their bands, or whatever. They'll be talking and I show up and they kinda keep talking for a minute but you can tell the energy changed and then they kind of move on. I don't even think they're talking about me when this happens, I think for some reason they can't stand the idea of having a fun time with me in the vicinity.
