I'd like to bring up some super heavy argument but the truth is I just like eating meat. Tried going vegetarian for a few days, didn't feel full without meat, question answered. Omnivores I guess
>>
>>29576225
not vegan but I am vegetarian for cultural reasons I suppose

I think veganism is a little too extreme, it's very hard to be vegan in the United States unless you decide to hardly ever eat out - many restaurants do not have vegan options, many don't even have good vegetarian options

I don't know why anyone would oppose someone else being vegan - that being said I think many people who decide to "try out" veganism take it way too lightly and don't think enough about maintaining good nutritional habits, instead choosing to JUST cut out animal products but not replacing the nutrients they are missing, that's why you see stories about stupid vegan people killing their babies
>>
>>29576225
that pic just gave me a dose of uncanny valley
>>
Plants have feelings too. Why injure an innocent tomato or separate a one happy potato from it's family?

You are all bastards
>>
My parents are vegans and it's honestly way too much work to be a vegan.
I'm a vegetarian but I enjoy cheese way too much to ever be a vegan.
>>
>>29576225
Sister is
Sometimes I make vegan food for the hell of it, it isn't bad, usually just like salads or smoothies
Honestly it isn't bad but people are too vocal about it and a lot of them think that because they're vegan they're instantly healthier which isn't the case. I've had family members get fucked up because they went vegan and didn't get certain minerals or eat enough because they thought they were eating fine.
Honestly it isn't that different from eating regularly, you'd be surprised how easy it is to do and how cheap it can be
tl;dr: dont be a retarded cunt about it
>>
>>29576225
I went vegan for a month when I was a teenager because a friend of mine was. It was really difficult and about halfway through, I started taking B12 because I wasn't getting enough. Vegetarianism is fine for health; only go vegan if you have allergies or whatever.
>>
>>29576373
Thats cool rob. I felt the same way I understand.

I just felt better after veganism. Health wise, not moral. Seriously fuck dolphins I would fuck therir blowholes till theu suffocate.
>>
no i won't be a vegan

because only retards are vegans that like to skew their arguments in their favor

first and foremost you are not getting enough protein, even if you think you do
second, you don't get enough calories in total, even if you eat fruit
third, you don't get B12, some omega 3 acids and creatine
also low cholesterol is just as dangerous as high cholesterol

>inb4 muh nuts
humans are omnivores we don't just eat nuts our system needs more complex nutrition
>>
>>29576422
Now now rob. Plants have no brain or central nervous system. It would dumb for something that cant escape pain to feel it.

Also fuck the moral arguement.
>>

>you don't get enough calories in total

Vegan Wizard reporting in.

Just do it, OP. It's much easier than you think. Spend a few hours reading up about basic nutrition, start phasing out meat-based meals, start finding more vegan recipes to replace them. Then begin phasing out dairy\egg\etc based meals. Take vegan B12, Omega 3's, and a Calcium\Zinc mineral supplement and you'll be fine.

I am of the belief that everyone should evaluate how they feel about eating meat. Not just eating the end product, but examining how they feel about every step of the process. If you have moral qualms about anything, you should stop eating meat. I've seen a bunch of documentaries, I watch Food Incorporated, and I still find eating meat to be worthwhile.

some questions for vegans here:
were you born vegan? if not, when and why did you decide to switch? Did you become a vegetarian first before becoming vegan?

how often do you eat out? has being vegan affected your lifestyle much (other than your diet obvi)

Op here. Over half a year now

Did the 30 day vegan challenge for the meme. Straight vegan cooked everything in the beggining.

Felt better, kept it going. Trying to eat cheese or eggs made me sick. Meat was tolorable but didnt like ot anymore.

Still eat out constantly since sauce, fries, bread, quac and AZN food isvegan or can easily be made vegan.
>mmmm delicious side dishes.

Lost weight helping with social interactions. Also being male vegan makes you a rare commoditee. Other than that i still play vidya and hit the bars.
>>
>>29576736

Not born vegan. I became vegan at 26, which is later than most. I became vegetarian for exactly a year to the day, then became vegan. I had I think two 'lapses' while vegetarian - one time I was moving house shortly after become vegetarian, hadn't eaten all day and the only food available was some Thai-takeway with prawns\shrimp so I ate that, but then again I consider fish and prawns\shrimp to be somewhat more acceptable to eat. I had one lapse as a vegan and ate a meat pie because I'd ordered for somebody else, they weren't going to eat it and I figured it didn't make a difference whether it went into the bin or into my stomach (I'm a vegan mostly for moral reasons). My biggest struggle going vegetarian was actually quitting eating cheap chocolate like M&M's, Snickers, Chocolate milk, etc. Mostly because of the sugar content. I haven't had a 'lapse' in several years now, and I haven't been tempted in about as long. When I went veg\vegan I was sure I was going to go mad with 'cravings', but that never really happened, I missed Quarter Pounders for a while but quickly stopped caring.

I don't eat out at all, but I live in Melbourne, Australia which has hundreds of vegan restaurants, cafes, bakeries, etc. Most supermarkets here have a small section with a few vegan products, many products in Australia advertise when they're vegan. I don't eat out because i"m an anti-social wizard, but I've always been like this. Plenty of vegans where I live eat out all the time.
>>
>>29576876
I still eat pizza. Hand tossed doe is vegan by default and if i want cheese i use some fake cheese.

>>
>>29576225
I think the reason most people become vegan or vegetarian is the moral argument, but the biggest direct benefit of vegetarianism by far is the environmental benefit

The environmental cost of producing meat is much, much worse than that of grains - not only the obvious "my food needs food to eat" part (meat uses 10x more water per kg than a kg of grains or fruits, not even taking into account the food they eat)
but animals also produce a LOT of waste and require antibiotics, both of which are hard to get rid of easily

that's the reason I became vegetarian, I mean obviously one person can't really save shit, but, I guess no one drop causes the storm hehe

after stopping eating meat, meat just seems disgusting to me also. it has a weird smell.

Hominids are an easy 3-7 million years removed from an all vegetable matter diet.

Honestly, I don't give a shit about "muh history" or "muh origins" arguments, they don't matter for anything

even if humans descended from wolves or animals which ate 100% meat, we CAN live a healthy lifestyle today without meat, can we not? millions of people do. My grandpa never ate meat once in his life, and he is 6'2" and still very healthy. A vegetarian diet works.

vegetarianism is simply more environmentally friendly than eating meat, it produces much, much less waste, and more economical, it's much cheaper to be a vegetarian
>>
Not vegan. Dont think i will be.

If animals are too stupid to have a sense of their surroundings, reference level or can even have a level of self-awareness (having memory, show emotions that aren't based on 'calm state' or 'panic state'), they're probably not even aware of life the way we are. I don't mind domesticating them and using them for it.

If that's the case though, i should stop eating pork and beef. Chicken and fish is okay though.

That is science. That is reality. We are omnivores wether you eat that diet or not because this is what we have evolved into. To immedietly put a stop to that path set down by our very DNA is not healthy. Do not claim it is healthy or healthier when you ignore millions of years of molecular adaption. It is a risky lifestyle that only the first worlders can barely pull off because they live amongst grocery stores and supplement pharmacies.

Because you ignore history and your origins you are ignorant of reason and flaunt it. You are foolish. You have let yourself be sucked in by fads and facebook infographics. Not about not hurting animals .

I am Indian [American] and most Indians are vegetarians. My parents are vegetarians, my grandparents are vegetarians, their grandparents were vegetarians, and their parents before them.
I don't know how far back this goes anon but this isn't any new generational fad - people have been vegetarian in India for a very, very long time.

also, human ancestors were almost all completely vegetarian - I'm not saying that meat was not an important part of the early human's diet, but it's clear from human anatomy that our ancestors were not meat eaters, or did not eat nearly as much meat as we do. Even in the direct past, the early humans never ate as much meat as we do today, in fact people didn't start eating meat like we do today until the last century

>>29578597
that's right, there are many Indians that have health issues related to their nutritional deficiency, but that doesn't mean nutritional deficiency is related to vegetarianism. This is more a poverty problem than anything else, just like anywhere in the world, the poor are not as healthy as the rich.

It is completely possible to live a healthy lifestyle being a vegetarian, but if you eat like the average dalit you are not gonna be too healthy

I eat meat but I respect vegans who are vegan for moral reasons, but not health reasons. I considered it, but I crave the taste of iron and meat occasionally, especially after I exercise.

It doesn't matter anyway, soon cultured meat will be available and there won't be any reason to be a vegan.

No. More hungry than i used to. I eat more to compensate. Gnight rob. I wont reply anymore.

sure buddy.

if you drank milk 2000 years ago you might puke and die and now your body adjusted because human bowels adjusted

also humans couldn't grow food all year long, especially certain foods

I like being vegan, the very IDEA of veganism triggers the fuck out of carniecucks. Keep eating animal flesh, retards.

>I think veganism is a little too extreme, it's very hard to be vegan in the United States unless you decide to hardly ever eat out.

This hasn't really been my experience. I've found it to be quite easy to be vegan in the US.

Most chain restaurants offer vegan dishes, and a lot of local restaurants can whip something up upon request.

I can at least respect your being honest about it. Too many people are obviously (if they are ever made aware of it) bothered by the barbarity of meat and dairy production yet cannot admit that the only reason they continue to consume these things is because they are basically addicted to the taste, convenience and tradition of it all and feel the need to conjure up absurd excuses instead of just admitting the real reason. I am not assuming you care at all about animal welfare or bioethics, but at least you can be honest about the main reason that you consume animal (bi)products.
>>
Yo vegans, vegetarians why do you think that fish and seafood okay to eat?
>>
>>29581406

Whey isn't vegan though. It's a dairy product.

>29581559

Vegans and actual vegetarians don't eat fish (or lobster, etc.)

The right term for a diet that includes fish but excludes other kinds of meat is pescatarian.
>>
>>29581559
They don't, there's another word for that altogether.
People who say they're vegan or even vegetarian while consuming seafood of any kind are full of shit or just don't understand the terminology.
Vegetarians simply abstain from meat but eat drink dairy products/biproducts and things that may be fortified with animal derived vitamins.
Vegans take it a step further and exclude any and all meat/dairy/anything that may possibly have gelatin, cochineal dye, whey and other unseen and otherwise unidentifiable animal sourced ingredients that can only be known to be present if an ingredients list is accompanying the food product in question.

I like meat, and I don't care about the suffering of animals.

Why do vegans go so far?
>>
>>29581803

As a vegan, I can answer that I'm vegan because the dairy and egg industries are closely linked with the meat industries and cause easily as much suffering. Truth is they're basically one thing.

Cows on dairy farms get sold for beef when they get too old to produce enough milk to be more profitable than it would be to replace them. Also for a cow to give milk, she has to get pregnant first and then her calf is taken away and sold for veal--so the dairy and veal industries are really two sides of the same coin. For the sake of consistency, I avoid both.

And hens are killed when it's no longer profitable to keep them for egg production.

I think vegetarianism is good, but I'm a vegan because I do think it's better.

probably because they're insecure elitists who need a cause to be braggarts about and virtue signal at every turn of the way

it's an endless game of one-upmanship and veganism is nearest the top of the list of unone-uppable things, the only people who can one-up even them are jainists who're vegan (most are vegetarian at least)

it's all just arrogance and it's a social currency of sorts

that's more or less what a lot of people would say or think

I can't tell you why every veganfaggot is a veganfag, only why I am, but that would take forever to explain in detail

just know that there are three main reasons; environmental conservation/health/ethics and within those you'll find many specific reasons of different people should you inquire
