Can someone please tell me why living on a remote farm in a small country town actually sucks? I'm trying to kill the fantasy

I used to live in a very small village (population is around 120 people), but not on a farm.

The only downside is that the city is around 25 km's away, so I have to drive to buy even the basic stuff, and in the winter the traffic gets a little problematic.

Other than that, it's a pretty good place to live. It's calm, there is no noise except for the birds and the occasional barking of the neighbours dog, and the air is very clean.

Now I live a bigger town (around 70.000 people there) and I fucking hate it, so I just quit my job and I'll move back to this small village, back to my parents.

Why do you want to kill the fantasy? If you're more introvert than extrovert, then the perfect place to live is a farm or a small village.

I'm afraid of over-idealizing it to the point where if I actually do live there, I'll be disappointed.

I also have this issue

I really can't think of a reason why I wouldn't want to do this, but I have to live near civilization for an engineering job unfortunately

But how do you over-idealize it? What do you think, what is it like to live on the countryside?

farming is back breaking horrible work.
you think oh no big deal i just carry buckets around shovel shit its all fun i like gardening ;^)
NO its fucking awful you will work your fingers to the bone for next to nothing.
small country towns, at least in my area, do not like outsiders. they probably wont attack you or anything but you will certainly feel unwelcome.
if you need anything have fun driving forever to get to it
shit internet
literal shit

it has a lot of upsides too, but its not for everyone

I prefer rural areas but the suicide rate in rural America absolutely dwarfs that of the urban rate of suicide. For whatever reason people seem to be worse off emotionally and mentally in the rural parts of this country

>population is around 120 people
Damn, never thought I'd find another village-born person here. My village had around 90 people. we at least had one person be smart enough to open a small general store so we didn't have to make the long as drive whenever we needed basic things.

no internet

I don't farm but live 350km from our nearest city.

Its actually pretty cozy, but it will force you to socialise.
But that isn't a bad thing.
I'm know pretty much the whole population of my town (~200 people) at this point.
There is no such thing as privacy for many things though.
I started transitioning and it was public information from the moment I collected my first prescription from the chemist.

We have a small store too, but I'm from Eastern Yurop so people here are not so rich. Because of that the store is only open 3 times a week, and only for 4 hours. It's impossible to buy anything other than beer and other beverages. If you want bread, you have to order it before and this is the case with the milk and other basic food stuff too.

I never did any farming work, neither did my parents (except for a small garden in the backyard to produce some basic stuff like potato, etc.), for example I work as an architect.

To be honest only a handful of people work in agriculture and they are pretty well off. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it's worth it if you've got the equipment and fields for it.

The people used to hate outsiders too in the early 90's when we moved here from the capital, but novadays the population grew old, and new people started to come here (even foreigners, like austrians or germans) and no one gives a shit.

The infrastructure is pretty great too for a small village like mine. We've got cable internet with 16 Mbps, have a pretty modern sewage and water system, and we've got natural gas too.

But I don't really know, how is it in the US. Here, the countryside is pretty well developed. Almost like living in urban areas near bigger towns or cities.

This is true however. Everyone knows everyone and everything. It's impossible to hide a secret, but I don't think it's a problem if the people are nice.

>Tfw Grandma's village has literally got around 5 people living there now
>Tfw it'll be anexed
>Tfw I'll lose all my useless land

Bad internet
Little technological advances
No card/D&D shops

Living in a smaller town isn't bad though if you're close to a bigger city since most of the time you have all three of those things though
>>
Have you ever farmed before. If not, try and find a job as a ranch hand to work and understand the life for about 3 years maybe more. Hopefully you have saved up a good chunk of cash to buy land and build a house. Cows are easy to run if you have land, you just need to lay barbed wire which costs $$$. But once it's done it's basically over except minor repairs. You can basically have whatever animals you want to, goats and sheep and chickens and shit. Hunting is fun. It's a good life. Cows are fucking expensive though. It's very difficult to get into the farm business desu, you kinda have to be born into it and inherit land. But best of luck to you, it's a rewarding life and I don't think I could be happier.
