Having lived in Japan for over 6 months now, and originally being from Scandinavia, I have arrived at the conclusion that multi-cultural societies are not the way to go. Multi-ethnic? Sure. But multi-cultural? No.
I don't think my fellow Europeans can fully appreciate what it's like to live in a safe, silent place like Japan. The absence of lesser-races inadvertently creates a peaceful society.
I suppose that multi-culturalism stems from some notion of moral rightness, but it's obvious that two incompatible cultures cannot share the same country. I love my country, Denmark, but I'd wish that Scandinavia wasn't in such a bad place. It'll only get worse.
I'm not going to stay in Japan forever, but it has offered interesting perspective that I can't ignore.

Have lived here for the past 3 months, as well as several study abroads in the past. Intend to live here the rest of my life. So peaceful. Lots of middle easterners in my town who just integrate and become brown Japanese people. Every day I discard a little more of my home culture to fit in a bit more, and you know what? I don't miss it. Foreigners online talk about never feeling at home here, never feeling like they fit in, but this is something I've never felt ever. Maybe it depends on local culture, but I have the sneaking suspicion they haven't made an honest effort to go native.

Is that Himeji castle? If so, I've been there..
I'm going for a few weeks this summer, anything you'd recommend seeing/doing while I'm out there?

It's already too late for Europe. Even if you completely stopped all immigration, every country will become majority non-native in a few decades.
