Been reading a lot about war. I personally think the issues in the middle east are just going to keep escalating. I personally want nothing to do with anything. I want to work for a bit and try and retire as early as possible and move into a forest near upstate new york near a lake and get the best telescope i can afford and just document shit and post it online. This is truly the greatest period in human history. For people who live in first world countries now have the freedom to conveniently eat drink sleep and do whatever they want for 16 hours a day as long as they work the other 8. Middle class citizens live like kings compared to the other ages but the poverty line still exists for the majority of the world. However this also comes with consequences with many people not knowing their "purpose" in life and because so many are educated with so much free time they become depressed. When in previous eras they would not have gotten that education and they would be toiling in the fields blissfully maybe even if they were struggling to make ends meet. The burgeoning growth of the middle class to this scale is a somewhat new thing in recent history and it's interesting to see this void in people. However if you have clear goals and an underlying motivation for your existence this is the period of change you want to be living in.

Define modern. As in post-Industrial Revolution? Good overall. Since the 18th century human rights have been booming, but unfortunately since the 20th, authoritarianism is on the rise again, which obviously negates these developments of rights.
If we're just referring life in the 21st century as "modern," then I'd refer to it as being worrying, but not too bad.
