Epic journeying through faraway lands requires people skills, unless you're rich. The constant barrage of new people and often depending on other people to be generous wouldn't sit well with me. Also even if I did know anyone I like enough to actually spend weeks or months at a time with them it would test that even more once the hardship and discomfort of traveling starts, and those are things I don't like dealing with in the first place.
I do like traveling when you don't have to deal with those things though, so basically I'd revise OP's statement to be this:
