What guidelines for the internet would you set for your hypothetical children?

First of all, I'm never going to have children, nor do I want to have children. Way too expensive, way too much bullshit.
Secondly, if I do have children for some terrible reason (say I manage to fuck a roastie somehow-hasn't happened in 26 years so I'm not too worried) I'd probably be a pretty obsessive father, because I'm paranoid as fuck, and I hear having children changes you. How am I even supposed to set internet guidelines for them? They'll figure out how to get around things eventually, and I'm sure by the time I'd have kids that can use internet fucking babies will be calling each on cellphones through skype to facetime gurgling faces at each other.
My parents just instilled me with a sense of vicious paranoia that has made dealing with everything in life a near anxiety-attack. Guess I'll just do that, or let them do whatever.

Tricky question, my dude. It depends on how old they are.
Children are stupid as hell and make poor decisions and it's the job of the parent to make sure they end up a good person. This means you have to restrict them from doing some shit they might want to do.
But at the same time you want to let them make some choices so they learn how to think for themselves.
I'd personally block all porn sites but wouldn't have a hard limit on time spent on the internet/games (after a certain age).
They'd be able to choose how much time they spend but only after having completed other necessary tasks such as physical exercise, going outside, completing homework, eating proper food, etc.
When I was a kid I didn't really fuck around with the internet all that much. Mostly just for finding pages with cheats to print them out or upload my custom maps for all the games I played back then. I never actually saw porn until I was like 15 and I had pretty much unrestricted access to the internet since I was 7. I guess the only things I'd restrict were them having a mobile phone and maybe a Facebook, just because there's no reason for a young kid to post all their information on the internet or have an isolated point of contact except if you want them to get raped by weirdos.

People exploiting and killing each other because humans are awful. I guess the exploring and invention was kinda cool though, even if its primary purpose was exploiting and killing more people better.
I'd use a whitelist system. They could use kid friendly sites like addictinggames and the cartoon websites, but I don't want them googling anything as they don't need to be connected to the world just yet. Any new sites have to be ok'd by me. (and I would block a few gimme sites like youtube to show them its ok and easier to ask then to go around me).
When they get a bit older I'll allow them to use google with safe search and my own filter.
When they discover porn I'll make a big ass fuss about it. They will try to use incognito mode or delete the history itself but that's ok. I'll act like it works and I can't see them but I can still monitor where they go and keep it "vanilla".
My only concern is if they ask for social media. I'll have to keep a good eye on that and teach them what is "safe" to post on the normi-net.

I actually took a class on how brains work.
We covered important things parents need to do to get good kids.
Letting your kid make choices is extremely important, but don't let them control you. Have them play a team sport, but let them choose the sport. Team sports are really good for kids because it keeps them exercised which promotes brain and body health, and creates social health.
Don't let your kid get too knocked down by failure. Sports can be used as an excellent tool to teach self-motivation, participation awards are extremely harmful though, so stay far from those. Teach your kid that they can win if they try harder.
Read to your kid before bed every night. Let them choose the book most nights, but have one night where you choose the book. Repetition is healthy for kids as it strengthens neural connections, but you need to keep introducing new stuff to keep them growing.
You won't need to block porn or anything, you just need to teach them about how things actually work before they learn the wrong things.
My parents weren't strict enough and never pushed me to do anything. I suppose I would raise my kids completely opposite to this so that they don't end up in a place like this. However, my parents only raised me this way because their parents were extremely controlling, so I guess this would be a continuation of the cycle.

Don't be strict, just don't spoon feed them. Don't buy them anything, make them use their allowance for doing chores and stuff. And when they're 16, they have to buy things with their own money. I had heavy parental controls on my computer use and my siblings didn't, and by the looks of it they are spending their time a hell of a lot worse than I did. They definitely aren't getting phones or computers until they are in high school. But I probably won't restrict it then.
