Welcome to legacy quest, a dungeon crawling adventure spanning several generations of heroes.

Your protagonists will die, permanently, but fear not! Before each hero embarks on their quest to free the land from evil, they marry and have children, ensuring their bloodline will not die with them, and providing the next intrepid adventurer to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors when they come of age.

Unfortunate and stupid heroes might face insta-kills, unwinnable situations, and general doom. The best and brightest will slowly progress through the dungeon, but will still likely face their inevitable death.

No one hero will beat the dungeon, only by building up a strong family of heroes, investing in your hometown/stronghold to acquire better resources, passing down knowledge, wealth, and loot.

Last time on legacy quest:
>Svard made his final decision to retire in peace, and be succeeded by his child
>We pushed through the tedious admin of which things to craft, which things to leave to our child, etc. etc.
>We left the dungeon, with a final disrespectful gesture to the Trickster

So now we're picking up at an exciting place! Rolling a new hero! Although I quite liked the narrative around choosing our class, stats, etc. last time, it took rather a long time, so character generation this time will only take a few rolls of the appropriate dice.

Waiting for three bumps before we see whether we're continuing the quest with a male or a female,
>>
>>312911
Aww yeah, quest time.

I'll vote female just to change stuff a little bit.
>>
Last time it was a roll of a d2 to decide, but we'll see how nice I'm feeling! Waiting for more bumps!
>>
>>312912
>>312915
Oh, if we run a female hero does that mean we gotta pop out a kid before entering the dungeon?

Also changing my vote to roll dice, gender shouldnt affect much the quest anyway.
>>
Bumpy
>>
>>312917
One more before we roll for hero gender!

>>312916
Yeah, that was my original reason for rolling for it, I wanted it to be a minor, random thing, and prevent it becoming a big point of contention. Yeah, I guess female hero would have to have babby then head off almost immediately afterwards... Slaying monsters and underground questing is one way to shed the baby weight!
>>
>>312920
>I guess female hero would have to have babby then head off almost immediately afterwards
Just give birth in the dungeon and throw the baby through a portal
>>
>>312921
Kek, I feel like getting stabbed, blasted and generally beaten down wouldn't be good for unborn baby.
>>
Here
>>
>>312922
It's good, since we'll be a mage, we always can use the power of Bullshit™ to teleport the child to the village, and still have it safe and sound.
>>
>>312922
That way the baby could level up before being born.
>>
Ready to rumble! Roll a 1d2 anons, first roll gets it:
>1 - Male
>2 - Female
>>
>>312927
Also, maybe we should have several children before departing, because otherwise, it makes the next hero, way less random, we'll know if it's a boy/girl (well, that's be it, but still)
>>
Rolled 2 (1d2)

>>312931
>>
Rolled 2 (1d2)

>>312931
What will we be
>>
Rolled 1 (1d2)

>>312931
>>
>>312927
That's a fine idea anon, but I'm afraid to leave the dungeon like Svard II did, you need to wreck 15 consecutive rooms, and use at least Mega-Bullshit™ level magic to portal out.

>>312935
Grill it is! First time for everything!

Typing up class options now!
>>
>>312938
Don't underestimate the power of Love™ it's a great combo with the power of Bullshit™
>>
Vote for character class, there's no reason for this to be random:

From the magical blood running in both of your parents' veins, you display abilities not seen before in other members of your village:

>Thunder Warrior - A raging warrior whose magical blood allows them to enter a magically augmented frenzy.
>Shadowdancer - A sneaking scoundrel, able to channel their magical abilities into powers of illusion and deception.
>Lumomancer - A mage who grew up heavily influenced by, and is now dedicated to, the shrine to the Spirit of the Light. Uses their magic to act as a conduit to the powers of Light.

Here's to hoping none of them are broken, we'll see how they work as we go along. First to three!
>>
>>312949
>Lumomancer
>not Luminomancer
But this nonetheless
>>
>>312949
>Lumomancer - A mage who grew up heavily influenced by, and is now dedicated to, the shrine to the Spirit of the Light. Uses their magic to act as a conduit to the powers of Light.
>>
Shadowdancer
>>
>>312949
Lumomancer
>>
>>312950
>>312951
Also ok with this.
>>
Best get ready to praise the light
>>
>>312950
>>312951
>>312953
I guess we're going with our mage/cleric class then! Interested to see how a dedicated worshipper of the Light plays out... Probably not as diplomatically as her father! If people prefer luminomancer, it doesn't really matter to me, I was trying to come up with a name that got the point across, either one would do that.

Skillset choice:
>Crusader of Light - Battle oriented, can wear armour, but only use blunt weapons. Magic is focused on buffs and debuffs, with perhaps a few options for limited direct damage/healing.
>Spirit Master - A spiritually focused caster, able to summon souls to aid her in battle, at the cost of most of her AP each turn.

Note that I will tweak how the summoned spirit works to prevent munchkin tactics, or using it to half-assedly test traps, etc. Can use any weapons, but no armour or shields.

First to three again!
>>
>>312957
Crusader!
In my mind we secretly hate dad because he befriended the monsters instead of killing them.
>>
>>312957
>Crusader of Light
>>
>Spirit Master - A spiritually focused caster, able to summon souls to aid her in battle, at the cost of most of her AP each turn.
>>
Rolled 2 (1d2)

>>312957
I can't choose so have this roll
1 being
>Crusader of Light
2 being
>Spirit Master
>>
If we can only use blunt weapons. is there any point in having sleepyfire?
can we reforge it into a hammer or staff?
>>
>>312965
Leave on village for next generation?
>>
>>312965
Hoping we can keep class specific items at home. We can make a spindle mace head once we get back to the sanctuary and bring along a metal rod from the black smith to hopefully forge a decent mace. On that note I'm undecided.
>>
>>312965
I guess it'll be in the heirloom relics stash, like other weapons might be in the future.
>>
>>312969
Confirming this, it can be left at home for future generations. Currently no way to reforge magic items like that.
>>
>>312973
Do we know how to "acquire" a legacy item ? Can we lose it or will we always find them back in the dungeon (but not necessarily in the same place) ?
Can our offspring pick any of these item in the future for his/her use ?

So much questions.
>>
>>312974
Legacy items are created and go up in level with critical hits. For the most part.
>>
>>312974
They get made when we get a nat 20 in battle

Legacy items are less likely to be lost when we die
>>
>>312977
>>312978
Oh, that was it, I rolled crit in earlier thread, but wasn't sure of the mechanism
>>
>>312973
We've got 2 votes for each at the moment, waiting for the tie breaker. Until then, here's new Angorvil:

Slightly expanded due to improved trade routes, two permanent buildings have been erected. The larger of the two acts as a great hall for the village, and a place for heroes and warriors of the village to stay. The smaller, slightly isolated building houses "The Brotherhood of the Raised Chalice". A small band of goblins, who train ferociously, they keep to themselves, mostly emerging only to raid the dungeon, and the forces of the Shadow. Svard II, and a few of the braver villagers visit them to drink and socialise, but most are still slightly wary.

>>312974
There won't necessarily be a set place for each (unless found on the corpse of a dead hero), maybe it's a reward for a puzzle room, maybe a fearsome orc leader is wielding it, maybe it's just lying on the floor. You haven't currently lost any legacy weapons to the dungeon though! Obviously you may also generate new ones with crits.
>>
>>312982
Can we have a calendar or something ?
Like
>Angorvil, year 27
Also having random events you may roll offscreen like harsh winter, hot summer, good outcome from crops (if we ever have cropfields), whatever. Just a suggestion for more variation.

Also about legacy items, my question was more about "what if we lose one by dying ?" but thanks for the answer, you rock.
>>
>>312969
Roll a dice so that we can move on
>>
>>312984
Btw, those events would have effects on our adventure start, like having less/more food, better/worse weapons/armor, less/more money and so on.
>>
>>312985
Well currently we have 2 anons for crusader, 1 for spirit master, and one who didn't mind, who rolled to support spirit master. If no more votes emerge in the next minute or two, I'll go with crusader, seeing as there were more anons who actually wanted it.

>>312984
The year must be around (3 x 18) + 2 or 3 years, so let's say:
>Angorvil - Year 57
I was planning to introduce events, but you'll see that shortly, (reflected in the choices you can make before you leave).
>>
Voting crusader
>>
>>312989
I love you OP, can't wait to see that.
>>
>>312989
Crusader, but will he have "beast tolerance" like his dad? Im sure growing with gobs made him tolerable of them. When i think crusader, i think total murder
>>
>The Brotherhood of the Raised Chalice

Love it.
>>
>>312994
That ultimately is up to you guys, on the one hand, maybe you grew up with old uncle Kazgrub. On the other, maybe your zealous worship of the light led you to resent your father's choices, and feel you must show the Shadow that a true hero has no room for mercy.

So, you are a Crusader. You have spent your childhood training under your father, the ever-heroic and suave Svard II. Now the time has come for you to carve out your own place in history...

But first, you must choose a suitor!
>>
>>312989
OP question about our nature gauntlet.
It buffed our previous heros main magic attack. Would it have any effect on a different class?
>>
Unlike your father and grandfather, both of your parents greet you on the morning that you come of age. Nobody expected your father to come back, and there's every chance you won't be so fortunate, but you've had 18 years to deal with that knowledge...

After sagely words of wisdom from Svard II, they lead you out to the three potential suitors lined up for you:

>Erik the Bold - A mighty man, and son of Ajira, leader of the town militia. A strong and proud warrior, although thought to love a drink almost as much as his mother.
>Perryn Trueshot - A young man who made his way to your village fairly recently. Not many newcomers join your close-knit community, but his skill with a longbow earned him a place.
>Grimwald - Somewhat of a strange figure in the community, a young orphan who has spent much of his life with the goblins in the community. Rumoured to have picked up some of their wilder styles of warfare, his face is smeared with warpaint even now.

First to three!

>>312998
I think I'd say it would buff similar other passive magical attacks, spellswords imbuing weapons with magic, a monk's ki abilities, (if monks end up existing), but it can't buff every attack by a man with a claymore for example.
>>
>>313011
Perryn
>>
>Erik the Bold
>>
Erick
>>
>>313016
>>313017

Hoping for more votes, but if sufficiently slow I'll just pick the most popular/roll between the most popular and go with it.
>>
Erik
>>
>>313011
Grimwald
>>
>>313017
>>313021
>>313026

That's three. After much deliberation, you choose Erik. You hope that the child he gives you will have the strength that seems to run in his family.

After celebrations (and some awkward looks between Svard II and Ajira) the two of you retire for the night.

Nearly a year later...
After birthing a strong healthy child (now in the care of your family), you prepare for your descent. Your father gifts you with the armour he forged in his youth as well as the gold he won in his journey into the dungeon. Your mother gifts you with a light mace , paid for by the trading success of the village.

You head to sign your name in blood on the Legacy Scroll, as your father and grandfather did before you. What do you write?

That's three!

Also, on the off-chance that anybody isn't caught up, old thread is:
>>305411 (very little adventure in this thread, was a quiet day)
>>290011 (I have a feeling the one before might also be in the internal archive)

Can we also acknowledge that both this thread, and the last two Legacy Quests have all started with a post ending in 11.

You write your name, Aurora, onto the legacy scroll. Your parents work together to open a portal to the room your father last stood in. Before you enter, what advice do you offer in your final farewell ? Note that there have been rumours of bandits raiding villages along the river from your town.

>Bring a blacksmith!
>Find mercenaries to help defend our village!
>Show these bandits what our townspeople are made of!
>Other?
>>
>>313058
Blacksmith and show those bandits!
>>
>>313058
Blacksmith
Better weapons, better defenses. We dont want to hire mercenaries that end up being the bandits themselves!
>>
>>313058
>Show these bandits what our townspeople are made of!
>>
>>313058
>Bring a blacksmith!
It should help for our next hero.
Then make those bandit eat your steel if they come too close.
>>
>>313058
Construct a casino, invite the bandits to settle down

Failing that kill the bandits
>>
>>313061
>>313062
>>313066
Three for blacksmith. Better hope that those bandits don't hit you too hard!

You call your words out to the onlooking townsfolk, and step forward to enter the portal. Your father asks you where you'd like to enter the dungeon?

>I will pick up where you left off father.
>I will begin at the first sanctuary, I'd better get into the swing of things before I take on the perils deeper into the dungeon.
>I will make my own path, and start from the beginning.

Note that starting in earlier rooms will allow you to build up extra loot and gold, but will not allow you to farm XP/levels. You will not gain XP from rooms that are below your level.
>>
>>313081
I'd like to know our stats before making such a decision.
>>
>>313081
>>I will make my own path, and start from the beginning.

>>
>>313083
Fair enough. You're a level 2, who will level up to level three as soon as you leave a sanctuary (this is so that you guys get to control at least one of your level ups).

5 HP base, plus 3 every level. Light mace is 1d3 damage, armour gives +1 armour plus damages melee attackers if they crit miss.

I'm still balancing abilities, but will let you know as soon as they're done.

>>313084
Yowch, surprised you're willing to see the old rooms again!
>>
>>313081
OP's still trying to kill Svard ll...
>>
>>313081
>Better hope that those bandits don't hit you too hard!
>implying Svard II won't kick their asses with Sleepyfire
>>
>>313095
Also just noticed: Clearly Old Man Svard is wearing a replica of his amulet and crown that were in fact lost somewhere in the magic of the dungeon as he portalled out... Oops.
>>
We have tons of gold and crafting items in the third sanctuary btw.
We can gear up there if you're worried about loot.
>>
>>313095
Dont start over. Defeats purpose of this quest
>>
>>313095
As much as I'd love more loot and I dont to replay rooms that hard.
Being level 2 I assume we have 8 HP? SO we get 11HP as soon as we leave a sanctuary.

>>313081
Voting for 1st sanctuary, we can find good stuff to help us deal with whatever comes after the citadel.

Why are we taking gold with us btw? Doesnt the village need it?>>313034
>>
>>313102

It would be nice to see how our new hero takes on the challenges we had. Also as >>313085 said, we still haven’t completed the 3rd room
>>
>>313102
Crafting table items in pic attached. Svard has given you all of his 28 GP already, so you'll have that wherever you start.
>>
>>313108
Oh lawd, does that mean I'd be expected to think up another of those god damn riddles? I assumed Svard telling his child what to expect would lock that room as it was, and all you'd have to do is work out how not to be greedy and defy that part of the instructions...

I think a fair number of people are STRONGLY against starting from the very beginning, and fair enough with that, so I won't go for that option unless it wins by a landslide.
>>
>>313112
I'm with you OP, I don't want to start again from scratch.

>>313132
I was wondering how we had so many voters lol.
>>
>>313132
Well that's a big fucking relief... Thanks for fessing up dude. I thought you were all just a bunch of maso/qst/s after all.

New poll:
https://www.strawpoll.me/10610439

I actually have to go to the dentist, but hopefully shouldn't be long. I guess we'll take this opportunity to get as many votes in as possible. Worst case scenario we get to dive into adventure whenever the thread picks up again, even if I take ages.

For any concerned anons out there worried about starting from scratch, I promise that if the vote goes that way I'll find a way to make those rooms go faster, seeing as we're over-leveled for them.

Have a new monster sprite to tide you over until I'm back: A Spindleking!
>>

>>313145
Hoping we can get a skill that let us inspect items and get more info. Someday.

>>
>>313146
Ah, I forgot about our bilingual anons, sorry dude! A spindle is basically a tapered rod/pointy stick. Its usually not anything weapon or danger related, so I've used the word somewhat liberally, because it sounded right.
>>
>>313165
So pointy thing. I was going with that idea.
>>
>>313159
We can always see what an item will sell for at a Sanctuary shop. Good way to find out how rare an item is.
>>
>>313165
Heh, I thought it was a portemanteau of spin and needle (english isn't my first language neither)
>>
>>313182
To be fair it could well be, I think spindles often refer to a pin that's part of a spinning wheel (a la Rumplestiltskin).
>>
>>313185
Research time.
>>
>>313185
Fire should work well. Unless we are not allowed shenanigans to get some battle advantage.
>>
>>313188
Well, it doesn't seem to be a weapon at all, it is indeed a part of spinning wheels.
The word comes from spinel in old English, with the d being here later. Spinel comes from spin, in the same fashion handle comes from hand.
So... it spins.

>>
Could we say she starts at the beginning, have a few small time skips so we just quickly go through 4 rooms but in the text it briefly describes her adventure. Only rooms with no enemies and something has changed or we said we would talk to again.

Maybe spider room, floor tiles/letters ,chess, one room an enemy to fight.

That way it is kind of all the options, we do the whole thing quickly.
>>
>>313683
That's a good idea anon, I'm happy with this if you guys are?
>>
>>313686
Yes, I don't want to go though the same room again, whoever voted this has a problem.

>>
>>313686

>>
>>313697
Since we know the puzzles (were told by our dad) it will only take a few min to go through 4 rooms, anyone who is joining first time learns the important parts and the combat system gets a test.
>>
Okiedoke anons, just give me a moment...
>>
>>313686
Svard and Kaz risked their lives for nothing.
We have shamed our people.
All is lost...
>>
My sincerest apologies to the anons that didn't want to repeat things, I'll do my damnedest to keep things interesting, and hurry through the beginning levels. I guess this can also act as a trial run for abilities:

Your father made sure you'd know what to expect. First, a room with a note you've pretty much memorised. Second a probably hostile goblin. Third, a puzzle room with a tiled floor, which you know the answer to. Fourth, a spider. Fifth, a tomb, one friendly spectre, one who tries to gut you.

You enter the first room confidently, scan through the note, pick up some charcoal and unused parchment , and continue onward...

You proceed into the next room, weapon raised, ready to fight a goblin...

(cont.)
>>
>>313736
"For the light!" you cry as you charge toward the goblin.

Aurora - 7 AP remaining
Attack with mace - 2 AP
Block - 1 AP
Move - 1 AP per square
Burden of Conscience - 3 AP - Drains a single evil opponent's AP for the next turn, causing them to either skip a turn, or in the case of powerful enemies, have only a few AP. May be used once before resting in a sanctuary.

I'm fast tracking coombat, but keeping it largely the same, ftr.

The goblin charges forward in response to your taunt. You deftly trip him over, and prepare to rain down the Light's fury!

You get an extra attack, meaning you can roll a grand total of 4d20 to hit, and block at the end of that. Roll please anons!

The light gods bless me
>>
>>313816
Damn, this would have been 4 blows, guaranteed dead gobbo!

By the grace of the light, your sacred blows crush the worthless life from this minion of evil! You take scraps of leather from his corpse, and 5 GP from the chest at the end of the room, before proceeding onwards.
>>
>>313852
Am I seeing things or does the chest have numbers on it? I honestly assume it's just my brain trying to make sense out of nothing.
>>
>>313852
Take one of his fingers as a grizzled finger trophy.
>>
>>313849
Preach~
>>
>>313865
Kay preaching beginning.
>>
Forgot to mention, damage rolls came from >>313826.

You enter the puzzle room, a supposed unholy shrine to one of the unworthy Gods, named The Trickster. Fortunately your father told you the solution to this puzzle: W-I-S-D-O-M-G-U-I-L-E

Anything special you'd like to do here anons?
>Read letters anyway?
>Other?
>>
>>313880
Yep read that shit, maybe something changed.
>>
>>313870
Oh Great Light Gods. Protect us from the darkness and the deceit of the Trickster. May you be our Light in this dark land. Keep all the creatures from the dungeon from harming your sparks. Purify these creatures of dungeon origin so that they may bask in your light! Grant the family of adventurers protection and grace so they may bring supplies for your humble lands. May your light pierce the darkness and protect against lies.

Preach it sista
>>
>>313880
Read letter. Solve puzzle. Collect reward.
>>
>>313892
Amen.
>>
>>313880

TAKE EVERYTHING!

That was a joke. Do it properly this time by not taking the stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing what the full reward was
>>
>>313902
Name what sermon you need now my spark.
>>
>>313895
>>313889

You read the letter.

I'm not even going to leave the clue, seeing as your damned Father told you the answer. It probably would have been beyond your mental capacity anyway, you closed minded fanatic.

- T

P.S. Your father and grandfather had much more of a sense of humour, you need to live a little Sister Pompous!

You cross the room, ensuring that you don't take any items from the desk. The part your father told you he failed to do. You claim a small wooden buckler from the chest. Beside it lies a note:

Once you enter the unknown, I look forward to seeing you flounder! But I suppose for now, I must allow you some kind of reward...

Onward!
>>
>>313925
Both letters were written in red, I screwed up the formatting.

>>313905
Trickster was too grumpy at the lack of challenge to give you anything special. Remember, he's a god of those who prove themselves worthy of his wit!
>>
>>313922
Err...goblin drinking song?
>>
>>313925
Aaaaand a trap door dad didnt know about.

Fuck you trickster
>>
>>313935
Pffftahahaha
>>
>>313936
If I made that It would suck. I will make light based sermons tho.
>>
>>313973
Gimme a Svard Sermon.
>>
In the next room you find a large Spider, and two barrels. It does whatever the spider's equivalent of a respectful bow is...

Not bad. Perhaps this creature is not a servant of the Shadow.

It waits in front of you. What do you do?
>>
Preform a respectful spider bow.
>>
>>313999
We are righteous but not blind. Also dad told us it was friendly.
Check the barrels.
>>
>>313999
Remember what father said and hopefully brought a bone?
>>
>>313999
Pet it, maybe give it some food if we have any.
>>
>>313983
To the Great Light Gods protect this torch that seeks to spread your will into the bountiful dungeon. Give them your strength, your resolve, your kind ferocity. Allow this torch to tread in the dark realms so we may gain supplies to further your great will. Light the Trickster's lands so they may gain great rewards to succeed and vanquish all who oppose you. Purify these torches so they may withstand the darkness. Gift them your valour, your charisma, your knowledge. So that they may progress where they're family has not. Allow them to learn and live so they may spread your flame. Now go my torch and bring blessings upon your family. Amen.

Sermon for when the Svards leave.
>>
>>314012
This as well. We did bring some food for it . . . right?
>>
>>314016
It's 'The Shadow' who is the bad guy here, Trickster is just some sort of dickhead god, not good not evil just a grade-A prick.
>>
>>314011
>>314012
>>314027
You brought a small ham, on your father's recommendation. You offer it to the spider, who takes it, devours it, and leads you across the uneven ground of the room.

You find 2 GP , and venture onwards...
>>
>>314046
I never said he was evil. Just deceitful.
>>
>>314054
Awww I wanted to name the spider. Webber Till we meet again, if ever.
>>
You pause for a moment... If the creature will act civilly it should have a civilised name. "Farewell Webber" you shout back.

Onwards you travel, to the next room. You find two tombs, one stained with bloody warnings... Your father told you that the spirits (friendly, and hostile) within may be summoned by lighting the torches...

What do?
>>
>>314107
Light the torches that summon the friendly one?
>>
>>314107
Summon the good one. Ask if we could free it someway.
>>
Don't light any torches just use the door, if we can't skip then this >>314109
>>
>>314109
>>314110
>>314124
You light the torch of the friendly spirit. If takes form in front of you.

"It is against all that I stand for, for a man to be trapped as a spirit, haunting a tomb. How may I right this wrong?"

The figure nods, and replies:
"Indeed, in fact I was much like you once. What I am now would have been an unthinkable, abhorrent fate for the young paladin I once was."

He sighs, and continues: "My soul was captured by the Shade of the Land as we called him... If its my own fault truly. I should not have had such flaws in the armor to my soul to be vulnerable to such vile sorceries. A moment of rage was all it took...

The man that now acts as my counterpart was a foul blackguard. I knew him by name and reputation, a corrupt young man who used his position to inflict misery in those beneath him. I was forbidden by oath from raising a hand against an unarmed man.

He took great pleasure in this fact. He tried endlessly to have me strike him, and be cast of of the order. I stood fast against his provocations, until one day an innkeeper told me that he had defiled and killed my betrothed.

I was overcome by rage... He laughed when I burst into his room. He laughed when I drew my blade... His smile faded one I severed the bastard's head."

The figure slumps a little: "He had paid the innkeeper to tell me. My beloved was fine, until I was hanged. It was that that caused her to take her own life. I do not know how I may even hope for her forgiveness. I do not know how these wrongs may be rectified. I do not know how you might free me, hero."
>>
>>314212
Can we break the tomb or something? Maybe that's his link to this world and then he can go free?

Also I gotta go to sleep, try to survive until tomorrow guys.
>>
Maybe we will find his fiancé later. Onward we go.
Hopefully skipping all the rooms
>>
>>314212
Keep moving... skip rooms. This is dull
Never make this an option again
>>
>>314212
Can't we move the thing keeping him here? We should be stronger, right?
>>
>>314212
You dead?
>>
>>314304
Noted dude, I can always skip a few.

>>314391
Not likely, you were thinking of the chess guy.

>>314250
>>314577
Onwards!

After resting at the sanctuary, Aurora continue deeper into the dungeon. Is anyone about, or shall we do the level up and non mook level rooms tomorrow?

I'm sorry that the thread has been a bit derailed by what I now assume to be troll votes. I just wanted to offer you guys choices.
>>
>>314710
Also, just realising that I skipped the spectre battle, but I don't suppose anybody will object.
>>
Damn it. We'd done so well at rolling up an interesting character, and I'd drawn up some (hopefully) cool rooms and monsters, but the threads keep dying because we're grinding old rooms. I will be back in the morning, and will try to revive the thread. If it really goes horribly I guess I can just let the quest die, but I hope it doesn't come to that.

I'll roll a bunch of off screen dice, and essentially "playthrough" myself before bed to give you guys an option to autocomplete the rooms before level 3, because I love all you loyal anons who were willing to play through levels you hadn't voted for.

I hope some of you guys are tolerant enough to put up with shit like this, and forgive the QM for silly transgressions like offering it in the first place.
>>
>>314780
Threads on /qst/ are like this, you need a slower format, you can make us wait 2-3 hours between updates. People like me occasionally check the threads we like, catch up on the few posts we missed and toss our opinion on the votes currently being debated.
Use the fact that this is a slow board to your advantage and don't be discouraged just because people don't reply fast.
>>
>>314780
Don't kill the quest. Just be more wary of trolls. "Rip and tear" memers, "kill lesser races" and naming items "fag slayer" is just /qst/-brand shitposting. And in a game where getting deeper into a dungeon is the point; anyone who thinks starting over at the start has to be an idiot or just a troll.

If anything, make the child somewhat as strong or a single level weaker than the parent and make weapons degrade in quality when passed down. Still stronger than the low level gear, but not as good when dad used it. And stronger enemies obviously encourage hunting new loot. Ever play Rogue Legacy? Check it out. Its almost this exact game but no puzzles
>>
>>314780
Op just wanted to let you know that i love this quest. Keep it going.
>>
>>315209
>>315215
>>315297

You guys are great. I've been trying to update pretty fast, but maybe you're right I shouldn't worry about it so much. I think because I'm new to QMing I've listened quite intently to feedback, and somehow forgotten that some people will probably not be terribly serious with feedback.

Your suggestions are all sound, generational changes are still being balanced, but I'm assuming for roughly at the parent's level, assuming decent effort this into keeping the village alive. The state of the village is obviously important to the quality of the heroes growing up in it. I'm not too concerned about item accumulation right now, as some heroes will die and lose everything, and even those that don't can only send back three items, such may be class specific. I'll bear the degradation idea in mind though if I need to tweak it in the future.

We'll be back tomorrow. I'll finish rolling through Aurora's catch up playthrough offscreen, and we can pick up from the third sanctuary tomorrow. Keep an eye out.

Cheers guys, you seem like you'd be fun to play a PnP game with.
>>
>>315341
Where i come from PnP is a term for getting high while having an orgy. Party n Play. >.>
>>
>>315409
Kek, I meant pen and paper D&D (dungeons and dragons). Don't worry anon, I'm not putting moves on you.
>>
>>315423
Oh yea. DnD is the shit. Paper n Pen makes sense. Learned something on 4chan. Fuuuuuck
>>
Man I'm kind of sad that we didn't pick a female Beserker, I was gone when we were voting :(

Kinda of sad we are doing another child of the light but OP this thread is great.
>>
>>315827
True, same here, wished for some 'evil' character.

Also, OP, don't kill the quest. Really like it, my favoritue one on /qst/ right now, always reading all of it, but I never seem to be able to post when you're QMing.
Keep up the good work, and please, archive threads as I'll be without internet for almost a week.
>>
>>315341
Can't blame people for wanting "free" loot. From the start, since our goal is to conquer the dungeon, you should stick to your own rule of starting at the last sanctuary we reached.

Love the quest and hoping to resume soon today.
>>
>>315215
So basically any opinion which is not your own or you don't agree with is a troll? That's pretty fucking stupid dude.
All the stupid names have been ignored so far.

In a game where you will be less likely to die and therefore get farther if you have better gear, anyone who thinks rushing in has to be an idiot.

Just because you think there is nothing more to the game than 'just getting deeper' doesn't mean everyone does. Some people enjoy being a completionist, interacting with the characters and seeing how the choices we made 19 (and 38) years ago has affected this world.

I voted for starting back, while I did think it would take less time than it has I don't regret the choice. Since this is the last time we will get to do it, I think its nice to finally complete it all and be 100% satisfied before moving on to new areas.
For some people the goal is to enjoy the quest rather than tunnel vision full charge straight to the exit.
>>
>>316339
Except that when we get deeper and find new puzzles and quests; we wont get to "complete" those because there will be no backtracking. So this time around its a waste of time.
And no it isnt just "anyone that disagrees with me". There has been plenty of sound ideas I've changed my mind for. And no. I'm not talking about the players who interact with other characters. Im talking about the players who took our "good guy" character and attempted to kill Kaz for half a thread after he became a companion, murder all the friendly gobs after spending nearly a year with Kaz and then saying "Lets start over from the very beginning" and undo 4 threads of work.

It was all trolling. If it was not trolling, then OP was right to assume masochistic tendencies.
>>
>>316339
That's fair enough I guess dude. I won't say definitively that is the last time we'll ever do it, maybe just give them a break for a while so that that's not so stale.

I didn't want to knock your vote to be honest, it just seemed like after I actually went for the playthrough option there was nobody who actually wanted it. Fair enough if you genuinely did, that's the reason I offered it in the first place.

Quest starting up again soon btw!

Hello anons and anonettes,
we ready to pick up from the third sanctuary?

Well don't be too upset guys, Aurora had a baby with the mighty drunken warrior of the village, so the choices next time should be to your taste!

Besides, you can always make a few choices to build an interesting character for our current gal.

>>316394
Coming up! I didn't go too hard with loot, seeing as it was autocompleted by yours truly, and I'll let you guys pick your level up ability. Inventory first:
>>
>>316403
>steel chain
>>
>>316339
Yeah don't take it to heart. The strawpoll was just (quite obviously) fishy. In the thread we were about even between who wanted to start from the beginning and who wanted to start from where Svard left off. In the Poll the same amount voted for starting from where Svard left off, random votes for 1st sanctuary, twice as many votes for starting from the beginning. Then when the thread started up again, about two anons who actually wanted to start from scratch showed up. Nothing personal.
>>
Of note:
>In Level 1 Room 5, the defending spectre told you of how he came to be trapped there, after slaying the man he thought slew his fiancé. In fact she was fine, but killed herself after he was hanged for murder. He believes that this evil act allowed the Shadow to trap his soul here, and does not know how his wrongs may be rectified, or how he might be freed.
>Aurora did not even need her Father's warning to spot the false Sanctuary, she recognised the false holy symbol by virtue of her class, and was prepared to battle as soon as she entered.
>The goblin/beetle battle room was now just beetles swarming over a long forgotten camp.
>>
>>316403
When all is set can we see what the genie is offering and what our crafting options are. Also are we missing a few crafting items. Like the red gem and a vial of blood.
>>
>>316420
Those items are in the crafting station, OP showed what we looted.
>>
Now, who is here? Anything you'd like to do in the sanctuary before we level up and move onward?

Let's keep it relatively brief!
>>
>>316424
Craft and see if djinni has good stuff to sell. Pack some rations if we can.
>>
>>316420
Yep >>316422 got it. Pic attached is crafting table storage:
>>
>>316428
our mace + steel ball + chain + sap + spindles to make this >>316407

Otherwise just add spindles to our mace.

Examine glowing red gem, even though I doubt we can figure out what it is.
>>
>>316429
Glue the red gem to the base of the mace
>>
>>316431
For all we know the gem can drain our HP. I wouldnt risk it.
>>
>>316429
Second this.
We should be able to make a shell shield as well.
>>
>>316434
Wouldnt the buckler suffice for now? We have almost no materials left to make the shield.
>>
>>316428
Any options to upgrade our town at this point?
Also buy health potions.
>>

Sanctuary 3.jpg
950 KB, 1408x1472
>>316429
>>316431
Crafting options:
>Spindle flail head - Steel ball, steel chain, spindles (4), spindle sap
>Spindle mace head - Steel mall, spindles (4), spindle sap
>Chitinous buckler/small/medium shield (1/2/3 chitinous carapaces, leather scraps)
>Am I missing any obvious combos? Don't be too miffed if I say no to certain suggestions. For example, current mace may not be covered in spindles, as it already has studs on the surface.
>>
>>316435
Op looted shells though.
If I remember correctly we could craft a small shield that had +2 def on a block.
>>
>>316435
Buckler is a good idea.

>>316436
We already added a blacksmith on departure. We need to see how bad the raiders wrecked our town since we didnt decide to arm them or prepare them for battle
>>
>>316438
Definitely upgrade our buckler to the max (medium shield)
I assume we can use this newly crafted mace head with our mace handle? If then, my vote

>medium shield
>mace head
>>
>>316435
You've got 3 shells total from inventory + crafting storage.

Town investment options:
10 GP - Very basic weapons for townsfolk.
20 GP - Purchase defences for town. Barricades, basic weapons, an experienced soldier to help train/lead them.
30 GP - Basic fortification of the town.
10 GP - Trickster shrine Not sure how Aurora would feel about this option...
10 GP - Hunter/fletcher for the town
>>
>>316438
>Spindle flail head
and
>Chitinous medium shield
>>
>>316444
>30 GP - Basic fortification of the town
>>
>>316444
20 GP- defenses
If the soldier decides to stay later on we can greatly benefit from it
10 GP - hunter
More food, more people. Someone to teach to use long range weapons.
>>
>>316444
>30 GP - Basic fortification of the town.
We could sell something for 1 GP then have 2 options. In which case also
10 GP - Hunter/fletcher for the town
>>
>>316446
Second.
>>
>>316444
Voting for 20gp option is best option for long run.

Basic fortifications is a temp solution.
>>
>>316448
I'd like to have some pocket money to buy health potion(s)
>>
>>316441
>>316445
Fine with either of these.
>>
>>316447
Your idea works too actually

30gp fortifications is not a good long term decision
>>
Djinni purchases, beware of increasing prices as we get further from any sustainable source of goods:

Small health potion - 3 HP - 15 GP
Medium health potion - 5 HP - 25 GP
Weapon shaft - 5 GP
Leather helm - 5 GP (gives 1 in 4 chance to avoid crit bonus damage)
Metal helm - 10 GP (Gives 1 in 3 chance to avoid crit bonus damage)

No extra rations will be available after journey.
>>
>>316455
OP. just a suggestion, maybe its better for the group to argue about only 1 thing at a time before the thread explodes
>>
>>316455
Do we need a weapon shaft to complete a spindle flail/mace?
>>
>>316458
Yeah, I realised that as actually read the discussion. Pls be good anons. Teamwork and agreement, r-right?

Worst comes to worst, people can roll a d100 with their suggestions, and if nobody can agree, I'll pick highest roll.
>>
>>316458
It needs to be taken into account though.
for example >>316452 said he wants a potion but >>316454 this would not leave us with enough money for any.
>>
Rolled 55 (1d100)

>>316447
Rolling for this
>>
>>316460
Afraid so. Hopefully a dope spiky flail or mace will be worth it. The more parts you have to collectto build something, the better I'll have to make it to justify the effort/expenses. Nothing gamebreaking though, obviously.
>>
Rolled 98 (1d100)

>>316461
Ok for starters voting to craft:
1: spindle flail head
2: medium shield
>>
Rolled 13 (1d100)

>>316461
Fine, I'll condense all my choices in this post the, and advise others to do the same, for easier talling.

>>316438
>Spindle flail head
>Chitinous medium shield

>>316444
>20 GP, defenses + soldier
>10 GP Hunter

>>316455
Weapon shaft - 5 GP

Rolling now in case it is necessary in the end.
>>
We already have a goblin defense camp, a barracks and a blacksmith. We don't need long term stuff, the bandits are attacking now, best to build a wall.
>>
>>316467
Seconding this.
>>
>>316469
The goblins are trained to scour the dungeon, not to defend a village. We dont have barracks, it's more like a great hall to train heroes.

Just sharing my opinion against yours.
>>
>>316471
My bad I was thinking of what our husband is head of, we have a town militia
>>
Rolled 60 (1d100)
