Peter was a street urchin who had troubles surviving in his home city. That's when he met his thieves band for the first time. The leader of the band picked him up and let him travel with them. No longer did he have to live off of sewer rat soup and he finally had some people he could depend on. However, once the leader got caught and given a lifetime sentence, most of the band lost interest in thievery and moved onto other things. Peter quit too after they all left and was going to sell all of his knives until he met Gnat which rekindled his adventurous spirit again.Also, go in-depth about your intimate relationship with Piper.

Alas he had fallen in love with another in his village, a commoner. When the time came for him to marry, he refused his father and pleaded with him to let him marry the one he loved. His father was furious and in his anger he did a terrible thing, he killed Peter's lover. Executed her publicly for a meaningless crime she never committed.
Peter, heartbroken, left his father and his family and wandered the streets as a vagrant. Taking on the surname 'Titmouse', to hide his true lineage: a Meitout.

It's largely based on the way he's behaved towards women thus far, in particular Gnat. For example, I really wasn't sure what would happen when Peter finally met Harmony, but the first thing he did was ask her if she knew where Gnat was.
Then there's the apparent seething hatred that Chad seems to invoke in Peter, presumably because of the way he's mistreated Gnat.
It doesn't feel consistent.

The idea of Peter being an aristocrat's son and his lover being executed by his own father is certainly compelling and interesting. But I think it might be a bit much for Peter Titmouse. He comes off as a big goofball.

Maybe he's trying to redeem himself, and he's trying hard to love. It's actually strange that someone is both good at appeareances and depth at the same time, usually it would be one way or the other. Those who are good at charisma either don't care much or developed it as a fachade of sorts, as a weapon.

Agreed. I like the idea of him being from a wealthy merchant family, though. Maybe he started the whole thief thing as a full hobby, like how some rich snooty kids take gap years overseas or something, but then either his parents disowned him, or they were thrown into the dungeon for being even bigger crooks. Either way, he was a thief for real, so he stuck with it and got his own merry band.
Also, Harmonyfags get out, Gnat is clearly superior.
