Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkword creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.
They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.
You are Ryoji Shida. A transfer student and delinquent who ended up in the school by mistake, with no fighting ability, but you may have a stronger connection to the Darkworld than thought possible.
>Previously on Dark Gate Academy...
Alice left the Darkworld and entered yours, but was taken into the custody of Class 3.
“So, what's the plan?”
You crack your knuckles and ponder over the question asked of you by Rei when you through the door to class that morning. You walk over to your desk and take a seat before answering the question. “I have no idea. They've got Alice, and we can't exactly fight them for her. I think we've already learned first hand that we can't beat Class 3 in straight up combat.”
“So... what? We just go along with all of this?” Rei spits. “That's a load of crap!”
Akira places a hand on Rei's shoulder and solemnly shakes her head. “There's not much else we can do. Not right now.”
“Don't worry,” you reply, “We'll come up with some kind of plan soon. In the meantime, Yamato's going to give me and Chihiro the right to visit and speak to Alice, so we'll have to take as much advantage of that as we can.”
You grimace at the thought of Class 3 keeping the Darkworld girl in the same horrifying conditions they're keeping Raiden in.
“Speaking of,” Rei begins, “I don't get why Yamato still thinks our classes are all buddy-buddy.”
She points toward the front of the room, where you notice Yamato standing by Saki's desk about... something. They're too far away to make out any words.
“What do you think they're talking about?” Rei asks.
“Whatever it is, I don't like it.” You glare at Yamato. This guy talks a good game, builds up this idea that he believes in honor and all that crap, and that he's trying his best with the whacko's who work under him, but you can tell. It's all and act. It has to be. Sure, he seems reasonable most of the time, but no-one who could let people like Taka do what they do could truly be a good guy. Even you're smart enough to see that.
Eventually, Yamato gives a small bow and takes his exit.
Immediately, Saki rises from her chair and makes her way towards your desk with a confused look on her face.
“What was that about?” you ask.
“He... said he was talking to Principal Wei, and they both agreed I had enough potential to skip up a class... he wanted to meet with me during first break to discuss it.”
“Sounds like a date,” you joke.
“Why, are you jealous?” Saki fires back. Damn, you walked right into your own line.
Trying hard not to sound like you care, you ask, “So... what did you tell him?”
“What do you think I said?” Saki replies. “I told him to go to hell.”
You smirk. “Really? I would have thought moving up in the academic world would be, like... your dream.”
Saki nods. “Well... it is, but come on, Ryoji. I'm not stupid. We've seen Class 3... what exactly would I moving up into?”
Suddenly, Saki places a hand to her forehead and winces.
“You okay?” Rei asks.
“Yeah... just a bit of a headache...” Saki explains.
“Talking to Yamato would do that to you,” you laugh.
Saki laughs in turn. “Yeah... besides, I've already called for a Class meeting to address the Alice situation,” she adds, “People are confused and scared. As head of Class, it's my duty to make sure moral is kept. We can't have panic at a time like this.”
You lean back in your chair and groan. “Do I really have to miss first break for this?”
Saki shakes her head. “It would be great if everyone attended, but the only people who really have to are myself, the class president in Kosuke, and the leader of the... I suppose now defunct... Darkworld Justice Division. Terrible name, by the way. Who was your leader during those missions, anyway?”
You shrug. “Kinji, the Gym Teacher, was in charge of overlooking everything, but he quit as soon as Class 3 got involved. I don't know if it was in protest or because he thought Yamato's crew could handle it, but after a brief talk with Yamato, he decided to back away from the group.”
Saki pauses. “Okay... so who was in charge after that?”
You think back. After Kinji took off, none of the DJD actually even brought up the idea of needing a new leader, so you guys never chose one. Who was the leader during those last missions?
>Name someone as leader. [SPECIFY]
>I guess it was me... I was pretty important to the whole operation.
>We didn't have one. We were all equal, like those knights of the round table.

>>I guess it was me... I was pretty important to the whole operation.
>I mean since I'm fucking useless in a fight least I could do is coordinate things.
>>167205
>We didn't have one. We were all equal, like those knights of the round table.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I'm pretty sure this was the case. Sure we might have called a few shots here and there but I don't think we were a leader.
>>167279
If I recall correctly, they sorta acted independently, but they were lead by King Arthur.
>I guess it was me... I was pretty important to the whole operation
Saki crosses her arms. "Yeah, I expected you to let your ego take front and centre, Ryoji!"
"My ego? But it's true!" you protest. "Why be humble when I'm the reason the group existed? That's not bragging, it's just the facts!"
"Whatever you say," Saki replies. "But it does mean you have to come to the meeting during break!"
... Dammit. You should have pawned the role onto somebody else. Maybe Ken? He seems leaderish. Sayeka and Rei are the two most capable fighter in the group, maybe you could have passed them off as leader? Whatever, it's too little, too late now.
Akihito enters the room, and the rest of the students return to their individual desks. He clears his throat before speaking. "Ryoji, may I speak to you for a moment before we begin?"
You raise a confused eyebrow as you approach Akihito's desk. "Yeah, teach?" you ask.
"You haven't attended many classes recently... and those that you do, you sleep through. I don't think you've taken down a single note," he begins his lecture.
"Yeah, what's your point?" you ask.
"My point is that exams are coming up soon, and you're doomed to fail."
You pause in confusion. "Exams? Are... are you serious? We have exams?"
"Yes," Akihito replies.
"Why?!"
"I wouldn't have expected you to understand, Ryoji." Akihito adjusts his glasses. "In spite of everything else we have to deal with, this is still a school. While our main responsibility lies in fighting the Darkworld, it is still my duty as an educator to teach. Even if you spend the rest of your life fighting the monster of that dimension, it is still important that your educational growth isn't stunted. And yet... can you tell me a single thing we've covered in class?"
You shrug. "Uhh... everyone's names?"
"Roll call doesn't count. It's for this reason, that I've decided to assign you a personal tutor. One who will instruct you during your lunch breaks. Perhaps one of the class's brighter students can get through to you."
Please not Saki, please not Saki, please not Saki...
"I've set out four of our top students who have the time, and are willing to help you in your struggles. I'll let you choose among them. They are Hiro Tanahashi, Satomi Mashimo, Hikaru Shirai and Hoshi Sanada."

"Very well..." Akihito mutters before stretching out his finger and pointing towards Hoshi. "Hoshi Sanada! You are to instruct Ryoji during lunchtimes from now until exam time! Understood?"
This deceleration garners a high-pitched nervous squeak from Hoshi, which Akihito takes as a yes. "Now, return to your seat."
That lecture hasn't gotten through to you at all. You sleep through the entire class. After all, you don't even have to pay attention anymore now that you've got a personal tutor... that is, if Hoshi is even assertive enough to try to teach you anything. You doubt it.
The bell rings for first break, meaning it's time for that class meeting Saki organised. You're surprised to see that not a single student leaves the classroom for break... you realise just how eager all of Class 2 are for answers. Saki begins to rearrange the desks and chairs so that everyone can sit in a circle.
Saki produces a small gavel from her bag. You don't want to ask where she got it, but considering her love for order, you can imagine she likes to play judge in her private time. She bangs on one of the desk to grab the group's attention.
"Okay, the 1st-"
"-And hopefully last-" you mutter.
"Official Class 2 meeting is under way. I'm Saki Kobashi, and I am the head of Class-"
"We know," Hikaru interjects. "I just want to know what this meeting is about?"
"I'm pretty sure it's to decide hottest in class!" Seishiro exclaims. "Of course, Akio and myself take the top spot on the guy's side..."
It's weird that he named Akio before he did himself.
"On the girl's side... there's a lot more competition," he explains. "Of course, Sayeka's the obvious front-runner, but then we have Rei who is in better shape than ever..."
Rei rolls her eyes. "I'm flattered, but I'm still going to punch you if you don't shut up."
"Then there's Saki-"
"I'm going to stop you right there," Akio stand from his chair. Good, someone shut him up... wait, that was Akio. Which means... "Saki is a little hotty, correct. But she's way down in the rankings. Her control freak nature makes her completely undateable. Now, Seishiro and I left the chart at home, but trust us. We have this down to a science."
"Can you two shut up?" Reiji asks. "This is an important meeting."
"Who is this?" Akio asks, pointing at Reiji. "The new transfer student?"
Reiji glares at him. "I've been here the whole time. I'm in the second row. Reiji Yasukawa?"
Akio squints his eyes. "Not ringing a bell."
Hikaru shakes her head in embarrassment, as Saki bangs the gavel on the desk. "All in favor of Seishiro and Akio not speaking for the rest of the meeting?"
Everyone else raises their hands, and the two goofballs sit down.
"So, you guys finally caught the Darkworld girl, right?" Nariko asks. "Is she as evil and monster-y as everyone says?"
>She's a victim of circumstance.
>Yeah... at least, she was.
>We don't know for sure yet.
>>167431
>>She's a victim of circumstance.

>>She's a victim of circumstance.
The darkworld seems to have driven her insane but I think she was as much a victim as the rest who were killed she had to watch generations die.
>>167431
>She was insane, then again getting stuck in Darkworld for who knows how long would do that. That said.
>We don't know for sure yet.

>>167521
Supporting this. Covers our bases.
>She's a victim of circumstance.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Reiji asks.
"It means she used to be a student here. One of the original class. She was trapped in the Darkworld for over sixty years, and it seems to driven her insane."
"So? Insane is insane," Reiji adds. "No point feeling pity for the thing."
"Hey, my aunt is NOT a thing!" Chihiro bursts from her chair, leading to more than a few confused stares. "I mean..."
You shake your head. Looks like that cat's out of the bag. "Yeah... I said Alice was a student here a long time ago. It turns out she's Chihiro's Great Aunt... odd coincidence, huh?"
Sora shakes his head. "I do not believe coincidences exist. I believe we are all bound by fate."
"Fate?" you scoff. "I'm only in this school because of a clerical error."
"Are you?" Sora asks. "And you just so happened to hold a special connection to the Darkworld? To think you're here by accident is naive."
"Whatever, the point is that after Alice entered this world, Class 3 took her completely into their own custody," Sayeka explains. "And they have the backing of Principal Wei."
"I tried calling a meeting with him, but he turned me down," Kosuke adds. "He's on their side, for whatever reason."
"It's that magnetic charm of Yamato's, I bet." Hikaru folds her arms. "For whatever reason, it's almost impossible to say no to the guy."
"That's true..." Saki mutters. "I had no interest in dealing with him, but when he asked about joining with Class 3 earlier... I admit I was tempted."
"I have a theory!" Nanami exclaims, bursting from he chair. Oh boy, here we go.
"What is it?" Hiro replies, adding fuel to the inevitable fire.
"Yamato's a vampire!" Nanami yells. The class sits in stunned silence for a while, staring at the pirate captain. "Bear with me," Nanami begins, noticing the lack of conviction from the rest of the class. "Traditionally, vampires are portrayed as having hypnotic abilities on the weak willed. It's how so many women find themselves oddly attracted to them despite the whole fangs and murder thing.”
“That's... ridiculous,” Ken replies.
“Is it?” Nanami fires back. “As ridiculous as demons from an evil dimension invading a school? Trust me, Yamato's a vampire, and his has special mind-control abilities, especially on weak willed women! He could walk into this room and say 'Akemi, take off your shirt!' and she'd do it!”
“Take off my shirt?” Akemi asks, surprised. “I don't see why, but if it's important...” She reaches for the bottom of her shirt before Sayeka stops her.
“Let's just get back to the matter at hand...” Sayeka sighs. You feel her pain, it's near impossible to get through to half of these dummies.
"Can't you talk to your Grandpa or something?" Rini turns to Saki.
Saki looks down at the ground. "No... I can't."
"It's not so bad, is it?" Satomi asks. "I mean, Class 3 are more capable at handling something as powerful as a half-Darkworlder than we are, and they still are allowing Tekina to run experiments on her! We don't have to deal with the responsibility of handling Alice, and science is still able to make progress! It's a win-win!"
"If only," Rei mutters. "We've seen first-hand how Class 3 treats its captives. Raiden was a real-scumbag, but the way they had him chained up... it wasn't humane.”
“So, what are we supposed to do?” Nariko scratches her head. “We can't exactly fight them, can we?”
Odd hearing that from Nariko. After seeing her angry display before, she and Saki are likely the only ones who could possibly beat a Class 3 member in a fight.
>We go along with them... for now. But when the time comes, we're going to have to fight.

>We go along with them... for now. But when the time comes, we're going to fight.
"What!? We're going to fight!?" Saki exclaims, almost falling back in her chair. "You expect us to start another war in school! We can't do that! Starting a fight for the possesion of Alice, after Principal already decreed who's custody she be put in? That would be taking the law into our own hands!"
"Do you have a better option?" you ask.
"Well, I was thinking we could lobby for change," Saki replies. "Set up a series of diplomatic meetings with Class 3 in which we negotiate the release of Alice into our care and-"
Rini interrupts with a loud yawn. "That's your plan? Sounds to me like an all-out battle is the way to go! And besides, you're going to lecture us when the plan to help Ryoji escape Class 3 was all your idea?"
It was? Saki shakes her head. "That's different!"
"Why, because you like him?"
Saki blushes. "No! I mean... Yes, Ryoji is my friend, which certainly influenced my decisions, but in that case Class 3 were the ones acting outside the law! They wanted to illegally take Ryoji into their custody! Us doing the same now would be... it would be-"
"The right thing to do," Ken interrupts. "She's a prisoner, Saki. Even if decreed by your Grandfather, do you really think it's right for her to be kept captive like this?"
"Well..." Saki trails off, before sighing. "No. You're right."
"As class president, I'll conclude this meeting," Kosuke says, standing from his chair. "We'll go along with Class 3 for as long as we can. In that time, we should all prepare for the time when co-operation is no longer an option. All in favor, say aye."
The entire class is in agreement. You realise that despite their differences, the hatred for Class 3 has a way of bringing them all together.
"And to conlude the main points of this meeting," Isamu declares, "I say that EVERY girl in class is a goddess in their own right. Every rear is admirable, from Rei Arisato to Hoshi Sanada! Every bust size is beautiful, from Rini Tozawa to Akemi Ibushi! I would gladly worship at the altar of your beauty!"
He gets down on one knee as you let out a sigh. "You just zoned out at the beginning of this, didn't you?"
"NATURALLY!" he boasts.
"W-why was I mentioned?" Hoshi mumbles as she begins to exit the class. "I-is there something... wrong with my butt?"
As the class pools out, Chihiro approaches you. "A big epic battle? How daring! I like it... and I expect you to lead the charge, Ryoji?"
"I imagined it would be Saki," you reply, "But why not? I've got to make myself useful somehow."
Chihiro laughs. "You're of more use than you think. But now, the two of us are supposed to meet my aunt. Even if she's been kept from us, I'm so excited to speak to her!"
>Are you sure you want to see her? I don't know what condition they could be keeping her in.

Imagine Yamotos face when his class is laying in pieces and all he can see is blood where his legs were.

>Come on, then. Let's go.
Chihiro nods excitedly. "Oh, I just can't wait to finally meet her and talk to her! After all this time..."
She reaches into her pocket and pulls out a small picture of Alice. Huh, you've seen that one before, when you were in...
"Like it? I swiped it from my Grandmother's house! I thought that perhaps seeing a picture of herself could help bring back some of her living memories!"
You were about to say something about Chihiro stealing from an old woman, but you're hardly one to talk. In fact, you did the exact same thing not long ago.
As you walk side-by-side, Chihiro clings to your arm, being the flirt that she is. As you reach the end of the hall, you are approached by Yamato.
"Ryoji... Chihiro. Are the two of you ready to meet with Alice?"
You don't answer, only glaring at Yamato. Chihiro is the one to speak up. "None of your goons better not have hurt my aunt, Yamato! You hear me! If I see even a single hair on her head out of place..."
Yamato nods. "I understand your concerns. It's clear that I've done a poor job of maintaining order so far... I'm ashamed of my failures. But rest assured, I have done everything in my power to keep Alice safe. She has been granted her own room with a bed, and only myself and Tekina have visited her thus far. Taka and the rest of the Class have proven unruly, and they are to be kept from her."
Yamato places a hand on Chihiro's shoulder. "You have my word that no harm will come to your aunt."
Chihiro pauses. "Well... okay. That better be the case."
"Very well, come along." Yamato presses ahead, leading the two of you to the room Alice is being kept in.
"I have to admit, he does have an infectious smile..." Chihiro whispers.
Smile? He wasn't smiling. Yamato's as expressionless as ever. Another case of Chihiro only seeing what she wants.
As you approach the door, Yamato stops you. "Before we go in, I have to make something clear."
You sigh. "And what is that?"
"This arrangement isn't going to work unless we have trust in each-other," Yamato explains. "I know you may not believe it, but I have trust in you, Ryoji. Complete trust. If we are to go along with this deal, I need to know that I have some of your trust as well. Even just a little."

Right, I'm a bit late to the party for once, but I've got a couple points to make:

Yamato's more reasonable than those goons he's in charge of, and he speaks genuinely, but even then you only trust him just about as far as you can throw him... which isn't very far considering your strength and the fact that Yamato is covered in armor. You probably couldn't even lift the guy if you tried. Still, you told the rest of the class that you would go along with the arrangement for now, and if that means saying you trust them, then you might as well go for it. You don't have to really mean it, do you?
"That's good to know," Yamato nods as he grabs the handle of the door. "And you, Miss Toriyama?"
"Yes, of course! Anything to see my aunt!" Chihiro replies.
"Very well. Let's go inside."
As Yamato opens the door, you wonder how much you're going to eat those words. They probably have her chained up, covered in horrible bruises, left her to starve...
You're surprised as you walk into a very clean room, neater than any room you've seen in this dump so far. Alice is sitting in the centre of a soft-looking bed, slurping on a hot mug of tea. This is not what you expected at all.
"Aunt Alice!" Chihiro exclaims, running towards her and embracing her with a hug.
Alice stares confused for a moment, before turning to Yamato. "Yamy, who is this?"
Yamy? Cute nickname. Yamato approaches Alice on the bed. "She's a relative of yours, Alice."
"Yeah, don't you recognise your own niece?" Chihiro asks, before pausing. "Oh, I suppose you wouldn't... but tah-dah! I'm here now!"
Alice gives a small nod before pointing at you. "Is he my niece too?"
"No, this is Ryoji. You and he have a lot in common," Yamato explains. "I thought the two of you might want to talk."
"I don't really," Alice complains. "I'd rather eat some more."
"Finished already?" Yamato replies. "Don't worry. I told Tekina to come back with more bread and soup when she returns."
You slowly approach the bed, unsure of how to start a conversation with Alice. What the hell are you supposed to say, anyway?
>Remember me? You stabbed me once.

Also, 'Yamy'? His fake-ass charm even works on Alice?
Maybe Nanami was onto something with the whole 'vampire' thing.
>>167990
He isn't a vampire, but I'm PRETTY DAMN SURE that his 'charm' is actually his ability, y'know how everyone gets some manner of physical boost or other ability from the Darkworld, like Hiro's shields and Rei's speed? He has fucking jedi mind tricks.

>So, have they been treating you okay?
"I would hope so," Yamato answers. "I couldn't forgive myself if it turned out we weren't. Are we treating you okay, Alice?"
Alice nods and smiles. "Of course! Yamy's so nice! He's a regular hero!"
Hearing that makes you sick to your stomach, but it's good to know she hasn't been mistreated like you feared. Probably best to keep the conversation light right now. "So Alice, how are you adjusting to your new surroundings? Is there anything you've been doing to pass the time?"
Alice places a finger to her chin. "Reading, mostly... I missed books, but I never forgot them!"
Yeah, that's no shock, considering how she spoke in the Darkworld. You're even less surprised to see that the book on her bedside table is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
"I also wrote this..." she mutters, as she produces a pink sheet of paper from her bedside table, handing it to you. "You like it?"
Staring at the paper, you recognise the poem within. It's that Walrus and the Carpenter thing. "Do you like it! That's from the second Alice book!" she explains. "I like that one better, but Yamy says it was checked out of the library!"
She pouts. "Still, I remember that poem word-for-word!"
Seems that's pretty much all she remembers from her previous life. You're sure it will come back with more exposure, though.
"It's lovely," Yamato replies. "But who is this for?"
Alice stares blankly for a moment. "It's for you, of course! A reward for Yamy!"
"Then I'll gladly accept it." Yamato takes the sheet of paper from your hand and places it in his front pocket.
The door bursts open, as Tekina comes walking into the classroom. "Yoo-hoo! I hope I haven't missed any exciting revelations!"
Yamato shakes his head. "Miss Tekina, it appears you've forgotten the bread and soup."
Tekina raises an eyebrow. "The... what?"
"The bread and soup for Alice. I asked you to get some."
Tekina lets out a gasp. "Oh dear... I must have forgotten! Sorry! I was just so caught up in this exciting development! Ah, Ryoji!"
She gives a wave and runs over to you, clasping your hands in hers. "Are you as excited as I am? Oh, it's been far too long since we've spoken!"
>Some would argue not long enough.
>Did you learn anything new about Alice?
>>168013
I dunno, but going from the nickname Alice has given him, we might need to use the HEART OF THE CARDS
>>168013
Look at the update with Chihiro saying he has an infectious smile with Ryoji commenting he didn't smile at all.
My guess is that whatever he does is limited to one person at a time or doesn't work on Ryoji for some reason.

>Did you learn anything new about Alice?
Tekina's eyes light up. "Oh, I'm so glad you asked! Earlier, I took a small sample of Alice's blood... with her permission, of course! As expected, it was black, just like yours! I ran a few basic tests, and you won't believe what I found!"
"Let me guess, it's just like mine in every way, isn't it?" you reply.
"That's what I thought, but no!" Tekina replies. "You see, upon further study, I noticed something. Her blood sample possesses many of the properties and qualities of a darkworlder, that is true. But there was some traces of human blood mixed in, which you never had! And what's stranger, those traces are fresh, as if they just begun to spring up!"
"So what are you saying?" you ask, "She's a Darkworlder slowly turning back to human?"
"That's the way it seems!" Tekina laughs. "Just think, Ryoji! The same may happen to you!"
You look over at Alice. It's true that she has made a huge change since she stepped out of the Darkworld. Was that triggered by when she stabbed that guardian creature? What could this mean?
"I think that's enough for now," Yamato explains, opening the door to the room. "We don't want to crowd around her too much. She's still getting used to the world around her."
Chihiro pouts, before turning to her aunt. "Okay, then... goodbye, Aunt Alice. We'll talk more tomorrow, okay?"
"Whatever you say, pretty lady!" Alice beams.
As the two of you are lead out, Chihiro places her hands to her now blushing cheeks. "Can you believe it, Ryoji? She called me pretty! I should thank her, good lucks are clearly genetic. Oh, it's such a relief to see they're taking care of her, isn't it?"
>Yeah... by all accounts, she seems fine. I'm surprised.

Chihiro stomps her foot on the ground. "Now Ryoji, don't be getting all paranoid! My aunt is safe and sound, that's all that matters!"
"Do you really think Yamato is actually that kind? After how they treated Raiden?"
Chihiro pauses. "I don't know... maybe Yamato isn't as bad as we thought."
Yamato and Tekina soon exit the room themselves. Tekina runs down the hall to her lab, almost tripping over her feet in the process. "We left her alone in order for her to get some sleep," Yamato explains. "She deserves a good rest."
In the hallway, you're approached by Saki. She seems eager to be filled in on the details. "How did it go? How was she? Was it awful?" she asks in rapid succession.
"Actually, she was fine!" Chihiro replies. "She's got a bed, food, books, and she seems happy! Yamato's actually taking good care of her!"
"He... is?" Saki asks, raising an eyebrow.
Yamato nods. "Of course, I'm a man of my word."
"Huh..." Saki mutters, surprised.
"By the way, Miss Kobashi, I was hoping you might reconsider my offer. Someone of your talents and academic prowess really do deserve to be moved up a class."
"I... I'll think about it," Saki replies.
"Excellent. I look forward to hearing from you."
You raise an eyebrow towards Saki. "You'll think about it? What happened to go to hell?"
"I-I don't know!" Saki cries. "I just couldn't say no again, I-" Saki winces in pain, clutching her head. "Damn headache is back..."
Now that she mentions it, you've been feeling a little light-headed yourself for a while now. Oh well, you have class next, which means you get to sleep.
As lunchtime rolls around, you are awoken at your desk by a nervous Hoshi. As you spring up, she falls back, startled. She manages to knock over the desk behind her as she does.
"Dammit... you okay, Hoshi?"
"I... I'm fine..." she mutters, still on the floor, as you make a conscious effort not to look up her skirt. "I was just... I mean... I have to tutor you now..."
Oh yeah, that.

"Oh... I'm sorry..." Hoshi replies as she picks herself up and places some books on your desk.
"Why are you sorry? Not your fault," you reply.
"Oh... you're right... sorry," Hoshi mutters, pulling a chair close to you.
"Are you apologising for apologising?" you ask.
Hoshi mumbles something incomprehensible, but if you were to guess, it was probably "Sorry."
"Okay, so what am I supposed to be learning here?" you wonder aloud, flicking through the books.
"Math... science... history... everything, really."
You sigh. Dammit, you have more important stuff to worry about than exams. Like how Alice is apparently becoming a human again... what exactly Yamato's got up his sleeve, and how he's so good at talking to people. Maybe Nanami's right... okay, that's going too far. Yamato's not a vampire. Vampires don't exist... well, they might. After the Darkworld, there isn't much of anything that seems far-fetched. Still, Yamato isn't a vampire, because you've seen him in daylight. Speaking of daylight, boy is the sun shining bright as you look out the window. You wonder what everyone is doing during lunch. Nice day like this is probably perfect for a run with Rei... Rei would consider every day perfect for a run. Kosuke was talking about buying some water balloons and having a fight in the courtyard, that would be pretty cool. Especially to see Saki try to put a stop to it, only to eat one right in the face! And then, with her wet clothes sticking to her... wait, how'd your mind go there? Whatever, being stuck here is a waste of your time. Especially when it's so nice outside...
"And then you take this digit and... uhh... are you listening?" Hoshi asks, snapping you from your trance.
"Sorry, I guess I zoned out there for... how long?"
"Uhh... eight minutes..." Hoshi replies.
Damn, you just might be the most unteachable man on the planet.

Saki headache is probably also due to his charm, we should talk to her about it. If she joins them our class would end up being a simple slave of them, due to their power. We have to stop that.
>Okay, time to focus. Learning... is important.
You look over towards Hoshi. Poor girl rattled on for eight minutes while you didn't pay attention. All because she wants to help you. Hell, when you think about it, she's losing time she could spend outside having fun. Damn... while it goes against everything you've ever stood for... this time, it's only right that you study. Time to do something you've never dared to before... learn something.
You use that trick that Sora taught you a while back, and clear every other thought out of your head. No more thinking about pranks, smoking, Class 3, a certain perfect ass... no, the only thing running through your mind are equations.
To your surprise, you actually manage to absorb a whole lot. You never realised mathematics were this... easy before. You never really bothered with them before until now, but you've really got the hang of this stuff. Akihito's going to piss his pants in amazement as you pass those exams with flying colours! Maybe you'll even be moved further up in the class after!
"Wow..." Hoshi mutters. "I-I didn't expect you to learn so quickly... and you managed to stay focused..."
"Heh, I'm a surprised as you are!" you reply, scratching the back of your head. "I didn't expect us to finish up so quickly! There's still plenty of time left in lunch!"
Hoshi pauses, before closing over the book. "Ryoji... do you r-remember our camping trip?"
"Yeah, of course I do, it was just last weekend."
"Remember how we... you know..." she mumbles.
"How we what?" you ask.
"How we k-kissed..."
Oh yeah... that did happen. During a rousing game of truth or dare, Chihiro dared you to kiss Hoshi, for some reason. "Yeah, what about it?"
"That was... my first," she explains. "Was... was it yours?"
You try hard not to laugh. It wasn't even your first kiss among the girls in class. "No."
"Oh..." Hoshi ponders for a moment. "Was I... good?"
"What?"
"No... nobody really thinks of me as attractive," Hoshi explains. "Everybody thinks of me as... a little sister. But I... I'm a few months older than most of the class. I don't like being treated like a baby. So I need to know... was I a good kisser?"
>Yeah, you were okay.
>Well... nobody's first kiss is good.

>Well... nobody's first kiss is good.

Hoshi stares at you, wide-eyed. "Y-you did?"
You lean back in your chair. "Yeah, it wasn't pretty. I was twelve years old and a bundle of nerves. The girl didn't speak to me after that."
Hoshi pauses, then breaks into a small smile, then a little bit of giggling, finally some uproarious laughter. She tilts her head back and clutches her sides as she laughs, the sudden momentum shift causing her chair to go off-balance. She falls back and hits the floor, still unable to contain her laughter.
Don't look up her skirt, don't look up her skirt, don't look up her skirt... oh hey, pink polka dots. That's a surprise.
You help Hoshi to her feet as she wipes away a tear. "S-sorry Ryoji... that wasn't funny..."
You laugh. "Nah, it was. Of course, I didn't think so at the time. I thought I'd never kiss a girl again."
"Thank you... that made me feel so much better."
"Hey, your kiss wasn't that bad to begin with anyway," you reply. "Of course, the only way to get better at something is with practice."
Hoshi takes a startled step back and blushes. "Wha?! But then..."
You smirk. It's always fun to tease people. "Well, if that's the case..." Hoshi mumbles, "Then... then..."
The door to the room clicks open as Akemi wanders inside. Hoshi points a finger towards her. "Akemi! I have to practice kissing!"
Wait... what?
Akemi pauses, then smiles. "Sure thing! I've never done it before, so I can't be a good judge, but go ahead!"
Wait, they aren't really going to... Hoshi nervously approaches Akemi and places her hands on her shoulders. "Please be gentle..." Hoshi mutters as she leans in close to Akemi's face.
Maybe you didn't focus on learning, maybe this is just a very vivid daydream... maybe you died of boredom, and this is heaven.
The door to homeroom bursts open as Saki marches inside, interrupting the action. Nope, definitely not heaven.
She looks at the two girls, then glares at you sitting in your chair, like you were about to enjoy a show.
"Ryoji?! Just what do you think you're doing here?! Are you really so perverted?!"
How does crap like this always happen to you?
>Look, there's a very reasonable explanation for this...

>Hey wait Saki! Help me give the girls a practical example
The look on Saki's face as those words escape your mouth... absolutely priceless. Almost makes the pain in your face after eating a fist from the strongest girl in class worth it. You don't know why Saki's so pissed off, it's not like you got to see anything... dammit, thanks to her interruption, you didn't get to see anything. What a drag.
After Saki tears you a new one in a very, very lengthy lecture, and before the beginning of class, Hoshi stands by your desk. "I... I'm very sorry you got in trouble because of me, Ryoji..."
"Hoshi Sanada?! A trouble-maker?!" Isamu overhears, approaching. "Just what have you done to her, Ryoji Shida? Miss Sanada's key appeal is her purity, her youthful innocence! How dare you corrupt her!"
"Calm down, I didn't corrupt anyone..." you mutter. "Hoshi and Akemi were just about to kiss in front of me when Saki walked in, that's all."
"They were... They..." Isamu's eyes widen as he processes the information. As soon as he does, he collapses to the floor, having fainted. Hoshi lets out a startled squeal.
"Ah! S-someone apply mouth-to-mouth!"
"No, that'll only make it worse," you explain. "Best to leave him there for a while."
As Hoshi returns to her seat and Akemi drags Isamu to the corner of the room where he isn't a tripping hazard for anyone else, Kosuke leans in and whispers, “How do you end up in these kinds of situations?”
You shake your head. “I have absolutely no idea. Wanna trade places?”
“Nah, I'm good,” he replies. “Besides, think about how jealous Rini would get. It would be a bloodbath.
Having already gotten all the knowledge you needed from Hoshi, you figure there's no harm in sleeping through the next class. Before you know it, the bell's ringing and school is at an end. The Darkworld is due for an appearance tonight, but you've still got some time to pass between now and the sun setting. Hmm, what to do...
“Ahoy, Ryoji!” Nanami bursts forward to your desk. “I have something amazing to show you! Something that will knock your socks off! Wanna see?”
That sounds promising. Then again, it could be something stupid...
“Actually...” Sayeka interrupts, approaching you. “I was hoping that I could borrow Ryoji for a while, and the two of us could go for a walk.”

"She's never asked anyone to do that before!" Seishiro fires back. "You idiot! You passed up a golden opportunity. One only most men dream of!"
Whatever. Hopefully whatever Nanami's got to show you will be pretty cool.
Nanami leads you out the back of the school building, taking you past Nariko's little cat shrine and behind a bunch of trees. In the clearing within, she points you in the direction of... a big wooden structure. Awesome?
"Ta-daaa! What do you think?" Nanami asks.
"What... what is it?" you ask.
"What do you think? I'm building my very own pirate ship!" she laughs. "It's still a work in progress, obviously. I've only managed to build part of the stern so far. But still, pretty cool, right!"
"I guess..." you reply, looking at the hunk of wood. "What do you plan to do when it's finished?"
"I plan to sail it, of course! Take it out to the lake set off on an adventure!"
There's so many things you want to point out to Nanami. First off, she's building the ship so far from the lake. How far does she expect to drag this thing when it's finished? And the lake in town is hardly big enough to go on an adventure, you can walk around it in less than an hour!
Still... looking at the girl's excited face, you hesitate. Damn, maybe you're going soft.
"So why are you telling me this now?" you ask. "Wouldn't it have been better to reveal this when it was finished?"
"Ah, but you see..." Nanami begins with a determined look, before that look fades as she finished her sentence. "I kinda need help to finish it."
"What?"
"Turns out building a ship is harder than it looks! I started this at the beginning of the semester. It's been almost a month, and this is all the progress I've made!"
"So... you called on the least useful person in class when it comes to physical tasks?"
Nanami pauses. "Huh... now that you mention it, that does sound kinda stupid. But you were the first person I thought of! You're my friend, so I figured you'd want to help out! If you do, you're a shoe-in to become my first-mate!"
>I'm flattered, but maybe you should ask someone else to help you. I'm not going to be much use with this.
>Humour her. What's the worst that could happen?

"Getting some other people might help the process though."
>>169122
Bit of a write in, if anybody wants to support it
>I'm flattered, but maybe you should ask someone else to help you. I'm not going to be much use with this.
>Ken would be happy to help with this project, provided you tell him its for justice.PS: Booker, if you drop hints that she's crushing on Ken, I will offer sexual favours to you

>>Humour her. What's the worst that could happen?
>Humour her. What's the worst that could happen?
Maybe invite Ken, if he likes fishing maybe he knows a thing or two about boats?
Also boat making isn't exactly easy
>>169138
I will back this man. Seems like the logical course.
Shame about Sayeka. I have a sneaking suspicion it may be important. Or maybe about her backstory. Either/or.
>>169122
>I would gladly help you, bit I think that Ken is a better option don't you think? He probably has a better idea since he goes fishing often
>>169122
>>Humour her. What's the worst that could happen?
She called us friend, and for once it may stop Anons shipfagging everywhere.
Besides, we need to exercise more. We never get tired, remember? We can literally work out 24/7 and get actually stronk, so we're not a useless pile of lazy lard.
>>169122
>Humour her. What's the worst that could happen?
Fine. Let's set sail for adventure.
>>169165
Yeah, watch it be that she knows that Yams is doing his mind control on everyone.

Ken and Nanami double-team takedown a Leviathan darkworlder? sign me the fuck UP
Not sure why people want to pair ken and nanami, I think Alice is a better match. She was saved from evil and its only logical that the proper hero bring her closer to the side of justice
>>169286
Because people ship things at the drop of a hat and can't be trusted to keep to a plan to save Ryo's life. Remember the Slow Burn*tm?
>>169286
I was just wondering the same thing! I really don't see the pirate and the rider ship as much as other people do.
>>169122
>Humour her. What's the worst that could happen?
Those 6 words suggest that alot can/will...
>>169286
Well Alice has only just come along (at least in not-entirely murderous form) and the Ken/Nanami ship has been going for a while already. Things could still change, and frankly it's far too early even say Alice is saved even.
>>169320
That last sentence has a few issues, sorry about that.
>>169286
>character just showed up
>better match
But why
>>169320
Early apogies for my douchey outburst just now freely given, Jedi-Yama and his Class of Lies and Slander need to be our focus, along with buffing up so we can punch them out.
>>169286
I explained my reasons for loving PirateRider a few threads ago, I'll go back and copy it later if I can be arsed.
But right now, i actually want Ken to have a mirror of our situation with Saki and Rei, with Nanami and Alice. I reckon that'd be pretty funny, at least.
>>169309
I'm still all for the slow burn, but it seems that the longer we drag it out the more people seem to try and tempt Ryoji in other directions. I still hope to eventually smoke with Saki on the roof at some point.Cutest possibility is if we taunt her into doing it by suggesting she couldn't handle it, and she gets pissed enough at us to do it out of spite and then she's trying to hide her coughing as best she can to try and big herself up. It'd be adorable.
>>169329
I didn't notice till you mentioned it. Never understood how the brain could fix sentences like that.
>>169338
Rei isn't viable in the long run.
I hope she makes it though.
>Humour her. What's the worst that could happen?
You give a small salute. "Aye Aye, Captain," you reply with a smirk.
"Haha! Excellent!" Nanami pumps a fist into the air. "Let's get going!"
"Wait, what? You want me to start working on it now?"
Nanami laughs. "If we don't keep working on it, it'll never be finished! Come on, First mate Ryoji, let's get to work!"
You sigh and grab a plank of wood and a hammer and get to nailing pieces to the rest of the structure. Nanami rolls up her sleeves and gets working with you. "Ah, construction on the S.S Saki is beginning to pick up!" she exclaims.
"The S.S what now?"
Nanami smiles. "Every great ship needs to be named after the captain's lost love... since I don't have one, that duty moves to the First Mate!"
"But Saki isn't lost... or my love!" you protest, but it doesn't matter. You can already see the gears in Nanami's head turning. "You know... this would be a lot easier if we could get someone else in on this."
"Eager to spend more time with Saki, are we?" Nanami smirks.
"Would you lay off it?" you fire back, shaking your head. "I mean it, two people are not enough to build an entire ship in a short time."
"Then who do you suggest?" Nanami asks. "Who in your opinion would make a good second mate aboard the S.S Saki?"
You shrug. "I don't know... Ken, maybe? He likes fishing, so he might know something about boats."
Nanami places a finger to her chin. "Ken, huh? Decent choice. He's a nice guy, the two of us cuddled on that camping trip."
You take a step back, surprised. "You what?"
"Well, there wasn't much room in the tent," Nanami explains, "So I suggested we cuddle together for the sake of comfort. I also asked Saki to join the cuddle train, but she looked pretty annoyed after you left, so she slept on her own."
That's a lot of information at once... whatever. None of that matters.
"I'll be sure to ask Ken if he's willing to help out later," Nanami adds. "For now, I have to ask... can I count on you to sail with me on the S.S Saki's maiden voyage?"
>Only if you change the name.
>Of course you can. Why else would I help build it?
>Nah, I don't trust us to make something than can actually survive on water.

Ship sails itself.

Not sure it's a great idea on the Saki bit, and the SS bit in ship naming also referred to it being a Steam Ship so seems odd. Or are we getting technogirl to build us engines?
>>169354
>>Of course you can. Why else would I help build it?
