What did he mean by this?

In the beginning moot was black, so he ran 4chan on stolen mac minis. Stealing computers for botnets is a modernized version of early 4chan.
He's referring to chanology, gamergate, and the vicious kind of invasion.

There is nothing inherently wrong with discussing politics, video games, and other areas of interest.
However, "hobbyist with a keen interest of japan" is a much different audience/community than, say, activists and more generally people with an agenda.
The more popular this place got, the more watered down it got and became confused about its own identity. Sad, really. Oh well.

moot actually lurked /pol/ quite often before he left. He gave a few q&a's on there too.
Anyway, nothing much has changed. 4chan generally is still full of nerds who are interested in discussing their hobbies. I think he just grew out of it.

Yup he said /pol/ was the board he spent most time on these days

Honestly image boards dont really work with too many users.
It get to a point where you are unable to discuss anything but mainstream stuff because the boards are simply moving to fast.
And then there is the shitposting
