The EU is now fast approaching Chinese levels of government surveillance and control of its subjects' internet traffic, and has just recruited private companies for their oppressive agenda:
http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/31/11817540/facebook-twitter-google-microsoft-hate-speech-europe

It won't be long before european law enforcement will be kicking in the doors of innocent 4chan users for propagating "hate speech" or "terrorism" or any other such bullshit designed to take out dissidents of the ruling regressive left; all because Google just agreed to inform against them.

I implore you, Hiro! Protect your european users and abolish the Google captcha, moot's most heinous legacy! Don't forget he's working for the company nowadays and might have actually planned for this horrifying turn of events well in advance.

All americans laughing at us unfortunate eurocucks I'd like to remind that you might well be next if Hilldog and her feminist platform get elected this year. This is the dream scenario of all the feminist twitter warriors for whom disagreement equals "harassment" equals """""""terrorism""""""

All UK users I strongly advise to use your opportunity and vote for the Brexit. It might turn out your only chance to escape the Eurocuck Union.

Do not trust Google to protect our freedom of speech, Hiro, cut all ties with Google NOW!

Why do we even use an external captcha system anyway

Neither 2ch nor Futaba use captcha in first place, I'm sure we can manage.
>>
>>547349
The spam was really, really bad and it's a lot easier to just use an external one, because all captcha systems are eventually broken by spambots, but google at least keeps theirs updated so the holes get fixed.
>>
>>547403
Not really, block posts with suspicious HTTP headers (or better, make them solve a real captcha), and the spam would have gone away. It's what Google's "captcha" does anyway.

Also the spam was years ago and there was no sign of it or any other spambots coming back when captcha was disabled on /pol/.

>>547349
The same reason MegaUpload had a captcha. To sell passes.
>>
>>547540
The spam will always be there
They'll just use text posts then with random word generator.

Some will legit spam their website here for backlinks which would rank their site aswell.

It's a slippery slope but we do need a better alternative

I agree, anon. We should remove the captcha, there isn't any sign of spambots. Its not like I don't have a 4chan posting bot stored on my computer, waiting for the perfect time to use it to kill all generals on the site.

I agree that there should be a counter to spam, but why Captcha?

I use a pass, and even I grow concerned about the increasing trend of Google to use Captcha to basically use Anons as free labor to identify storefronts and street signs for their search engine.

There is a difference between anti-spam methods and being an unpaid intern helping out Google's streetview initiative. They can hire their own fucking interns.

Instead what we should simply do is simply find an alternative provider for anti-spam word puzzles. Google ain't the only fucking game in town. I don't think 4chan ever had a problem with learning software getting past normal captcha, thus necessitating the need for 'spot the tiny piece of fruit in each picture' shit.

If anything, what we have a problem with is what we have always had a problem with. Uneven moderation. Nobody disagrees that there should be zero defense against spam, and everyone agrees that moderators need to act quicker and more appropriately.

How does captcha help stop "it really makes you think" spam on /pol/? It doesn't, because a human does that. Same for pony spam on /v/.

We'll really never stop spam entirely. It's futile. Nobody with any sense will disagree we shouldn't have some barrier to robospam - and I personally am okay with giving my yearly 20 shekels to keep the server's going - but do we really need to link our anti-spam methods with a monetary incentive?

Let's just say that somebody came up with a free anti-spam method that works 100% of the time. Would 4chan stop using captcha? Well, probably not, because shekels.

I think my 20 bucks should go to something else. Like maybe bigger image caps or lower waits between posts or something like that. Hell, a /b/ for pass users. Don't see why that's not a thing.

My general point is, what do I get for my 20 bucks now? Really, I get to avoid something that we shouldn't have to put up with to begin with. Which sucks for everyone else.

Google selected some words by hand and then added words to the system to let the users decide who they are.
The words they decided by hand its right, get 2 points.
When writing captcha, if you get right the word with 2 points or more, the second word google dont know yet, will get +1 point, when a word has 2 points its considered right.

Anyway, if you write nigger to the wrong word, the word nigger will just get +1 point, since the rest of the population will answer the word in the right way, the word will be fixed to the right thing after 2 more guys get it right (that is more likely than

This was actually discussed by one of the devs on /qa/.

IIRC 4chan does not have enough resources to use an internal captcha. also; They looked into alternatives but didn't find any.

So, You're shit out of luck.
>>
>>558001
>They looked into alternatives but didn't find any.
How about simply abolishing it without any substitute? It was never meant to be permanent anyway.
>>
>>558007
Because of bots. I guess something like an internal captcha every 35~45 minutes would be acceptable.

Or you could take the shitty approach and earn "4chan points" by contributing high quality posts. You can then unlock captchaless posting for a limited time. You could also purchase 4chan points for a small fee.

Then you could buy other cool 4chan features such as posting 2 images per reply, etc. You can trade these points as well, making a 4chan economy.

text captcha has its own impossible version, where there's big blotches of black over the letters that turn them partially white. they're nearly unsolvable but even when they're clear they fail more often than work. and they happen whenever you post-a-lot, as if to punish you and slow you down
during these periods, switching to the image captcha makes it a harder version that forces you to do it multiple times to get a clear, and then sometimes after it's told you you're good, goes 'you mistyped it' later

HW was losing interest in the site and losing money since the migration and he needed a failsafe so he went to Jim. HW still has 40% interest in the site even if he isn't admin anymore unless background shit is going on that he hasn't been vocal about.
Also the picture you posted doesn't reference the 2ch.sc ordeal and him DDOSing his old site and copying all the old user post info for himself, if you think he's more trustworthy then Pigman Jim then you are a sorry sack of shit.

It would be quicker on /b/, /his/, or /pol/ right now because the cooldown there is 15 seconds. You could do it even faster by posting across multiple boards, although you'd need something you could dump on /pol/ without getting banned (standards for that aren't very high, though). And if you used Recaptcha v1 (30 minutes to expire) with 4chan X, you could be doing other things part of the time. It's still a lot of captcha filling any way you slice it, though. No way around that.

becides, if google did ever start to ban users en masse, you could code around it. whenever a user clicks the im not a robot button, they don't interact with google at all. instead a 4chan server interacts with google, and sends a screenshot to the user. the user solves the captcha as normal, and the server copies what the user did to solve the actual captcha.
tell me how this wouldn't work.

>Abolish Google Captcha

Don't forget Google Analytics. They know everything you do from that.
>>
>>567938
You're under the misconception that Recaptcha is primarily a puzzle to be solved. Recaptcha works by executing a whole bunch of obfuscated Javascript to collect as much data about the user as possible. Whether the user can solve the puzzles is only a small part of it. They also use information from HTTP headers, your IP address, your Google browsing history, everything they can get your hands on. All that goes into an algorithm that calculates how likely it is that you're a bot. If Google's computers are convinced you're not a bot, it sends you a confirmation code which you send to 4chan with your post, which 4chan checks the validity of with Google before accepting your post. If Google isn't convinced you aren't a bot, it gives you more puzzles, sometimes indefinitely.

If 4chan tried what you suggest, never mind it being much more expensive to evaluate all that Javascript than it would be for 4chan to simply generate its own captcha images, Google would see that all of the requests were coming from a single IP address, and based on that it would decide it was a bot.

You'll be sorry for your words soon enough when president Hillary is going to weaponize Google and use it to kick you off the net.

>buy VPN
>rotate personal IP weekly
>run uBlock/NoScript/type of addons, use Pale Moon
>use Track Me Not to obfuscate all my shit
>never use Cookies

What's worse is Google now requires me to verify my Gmail login for my personal mail I barely use with a fucking phone.

Its insane how this datamining isn't getting challenged, the normies are clueless and oblivious.

Next year to be precise, when Killary takes office. She's colluding with Google already and it's only going to get worse.

Idiots. Idiots, all of them.

Captcha: I've gotten hard (word) v1 captchas only when trying to post (as opposed to streetview numbers). Had to clear cookies and shit. Fucking Google.

It's linked to IP though so changing the MAC-address of your router will do the trick.
>>
>>574764
What.
That's not how it works.
MAC is the physical address of the device, IP is higher up the stack.
>>
Just buy a pass
>>
>>574818
Yes, that's how it does work.

I am also not that poster. I've been doing it for years to get around direct-download daily limits for downloading porn/movies/tv.

http://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/force-your-ip-address-to-change-why-i-never-need-proxies.175019/

I had a WRT54GL with Tomato on it. I had it randomly generate a new MAC address upon every reboot. Man I miss that router.
>>

Then your isp must just be using sticky dhcp, but you getting a different address is just a side effect that's exploiting how the isp sets up their network equipment.
Not the root cause.
Me, for instance, I just have to reconnect and dhcp assigns me a fresh ip address.
>>
>>575508
Correct. When I had Charter, I think I was easily able to renew and it assigned me a new IP.

Currently, I need to do what I linked for Comcast.

Lets not even talk about Mediacom, fuck that midwest company, its the worst, by far worse than Comcast.
>>
>>574825
Problem with that is, it's tied to your IP. If OP's tinfoil conspiracy has any truth to it, then it would actually be easier to track hate speech posted by pass holders.

>Why do we even use an external captcha system anyway
Google pays money to 4chan for its users. It's an extension of their image recognition service that they use to improve Google's databank.

I remember being offered like, .001 cents per captcha hit (not even solve, hit) on my site. Not very useful if you're just using it to solve for site registration, but picture a place like here where you need to solve every time you post.
>>
>>577230
That's $1 per thousand hits, which seems high to me.
>>
>>577235
To be fair, the last time my site was popular enough to even need a captcha service for registration was back in its early phases when they were just hammering out the bugs.
It seems reasonable if you are under the assumption that site owners will only use it for registration or one-time verification instead of every time they want to interact with the site. I remember seeing how 4chan implemented it, and even back then I thought it was needlessly obsessive.
>>
>>577230
>>577235
Or wait, do you mean .001 of a cent? Because that would be $1 per hundred-thousand hits.
>>
>>577245
Yes, that. My mistake.
