So should we just go ahead and declare /trash/ a failure?

It completely fails to serve its purpose. The board was intended as an outlet for off topic threads that couldn't be allowed to stay on their home boards because they were off topic and cluttering the board and therefore against the rules , but also yielded enough quality content and/or discussion to justify their continued existence somewhere.

Threads are rarely ever moved to /trash/, and the few that do get moved are swiftly either knocked off the board are derailed further by shitposting by people who use the board as their home board. It's just another /b/, albeit one that moves so slowly it allows shit you'd rarely see on /b/ like ERP.

>>525345
A slower /b/ is good. The question is why we need 5 /b/'s.

/r9k/ was meant to save original content which was lacking on /b/, /s4s/ was meant to save memes which was lacking on /b/, /jp/ was meant to be another catch-all board like /b/ before being killed by moderation, /pol/ likes to claim they have direct lineage from habbo hotel swastikas on /b/, /trash/ is furry /b/. And of course there's /b/, and nothing happens on /b/ any more because /b/ was systematically destroyed and compartmentalized into hugboxes.
>>
>>525348
>/b/ was destroyed by compartmentalized hugboxes

/b/ was destroyed by the eventual amalgamation of real life and internet culture, leaving no place for standalone internet culture. /b/'s lack of original content is also an aspect of this because this same combination of reality and internet makes the userbase more consumer rather than creator oriented because of how bloated it gets.
>>
>>525348
/jp/ was supposed to be the Touhou/Jap VN board for /a/. How can it be a /b/ board? /b/ boards have no real topic that bars discussion of anything that might have its own board. /r9k/, /s4s/, and /trash/ are actual /b/ boards.
>>
>>525354
That certainly caused a decline in /b/ among other things, but when you remove everything from /b/ that made it /b/, that's when /b/ really stops being /b/

>>525357
Mostly because old /jp/ has about as much of a claim to being /b/ as /pol/ does. /b/ used to be anime/random, marking a similarity with old /b/. I'm aware it was a containment board, but in the beginning it also had a meme culture with OC. But you're right, those are weak links and neither is actually directly derived from /b/.

Still that's 4 /b/'s. Hollow shadow of it's former self /b/. /r9k/ failure at making OC /b/ that only makes slight rare variations of the same meme. /s4s/ which is just purely self-aware memeing, and /trash/ where furry is actually kind of allowed.

I still ask why we need all these /b/s
>>
>>525348
>The question is why we need 5 /b/'s.
Because 4chan has a huge userbase you fucking retard.
>>
>>525375
We need to shrink 4chan. All the boards that are attracting users from other sites, like /tv/, /v/, /pol/ need to go.
>>
>>525348
>/pol/ likes to claim they have direct lineage from habbo hotel swastikas on /b/
We wuz oldfags n shit
>>
>>525382
You mean you read encyclopedia dramatica.
>>
>>525348
>>525382
Those Habbo raids were clearly ironic, /pol/ hasn't been ironic in a long ass time.
>>
>>525385
Shh, /pol/ doesn't seem to realize that. Do you want to be called a reddit?
>>
Nah, /trash/ is a great board for threads that have no home.
For example:
Furry porn
MLP porn
Forbidden /co/ threads
>>525379
>stopping newfreinds
This will kill 4chan. Any forum NEEDS new members to survive.
>>
>>525345
It works as a containment board for people too depraved for the rest of the site.
>>
The way to fix /trash/ would be to disallow posting new threads there. Replies only.
The problem with this would be that it would make every other board worse as posters make "trash-bait" to de facto make threads on trash.

I like /trash/, even if only for /sug/. I also think it's good that ponyfuckers and furfags have an outlet to post their shit.
>>
>>525707
/trash/ was Hiro's way to give /fur/ without actually doing so. The thread relocation idea was just a cover

NEWFRIEND DETECTED

>>525786
Retard detected.
>>
>>525717
A hint: Hiro hasn't thought of any of the new boards except /news/.
>>
You forgot about another /b/, which is called /qa/.
>>
>>525345
/trash/ is a failure because the actual site feature it was created for is rarely and wrongly used.
But thw board tself is a success. It is the rare diamond you fnd in the ocean of piss and shit.

What makes you think that was the purpose of /trash/, and not...you know...a gulag for cancer?

No, /trash/ is objectively the best board on this site.

Whose fault is that? Not the users; they don't have that power. If it's not being used then that's the mods' fault.

What is wrong with /trash/? It's fine.

It proves that boards with little to no moderation do totally fine.
>>
>>525379
when I heard about this site first 4chan and /b/ were synonymous so you might want to remove /b/ as well.

we have to take steps to preserve our culture.

We must secure the existence of our people and a future for quest fags.
