Hellbans have been suggested before but they aren't possible without a huge rework of how posting works under the hood.
the benefits would be shortlived anyways, because as soon as replies stop suddenly you can tell pretty much instantly you are banned, also this won't stop people who make the OP post with one IP and then switch to a phone or other device with another IP to keep it bumped and continue baiting others to contribute to their thread.
the only way shitposting will be dealt with is penalizing people for acknowledging a shitposter's existence and contributing to their shit threads, ie a threadban for 'replying to garbage threads'. Instill the fear of banning in people for contributing to shit threads so people stop doing it. Cut off the supply of (you)s at the source. With no replies, the shitposter will inevitably try to samefag and keep baiting until he gets bites but no one will take it.
Barneyfag however will never, ever stop, same with Ruggarell and other career shitpost ban evaders with multiple rangebans to their name. I wonder if the legal system might possibly be a solution. I'm pretty sure their continued access to the site after being removed from it many many times runs afoul of some sort of those recent cyberbullying/harassment laws. that or just stop bothering with normal bans for these people and just rangeban on sight.
