There is a lot of shitposting and obscurity on this topic because it has split opinion, so I'll post some facts to help the mods make a decision.
Rugby League (/nrl/) is very popular in a relevant country, as well as having some mild relevance in other countries.
Rugby Union (rug) on the other hand, has shares this mild relevance in other countries, but it is most popular in an irrelevant country in NZ.
Rugby league, is much like American Football or Basketball in this regard, whereas union is similar to Turkish Oil wrestling, which is obviously a very alternative sport.
