The problem is that politics are so intertwined with culture that political discussion is relevant to pretty much every board at one point or another. You can't just quarantine everything with the slightest whiff of /pol/ like you can with /mlp/.

Actually yes.

>/a/
Obscenity laws in Japan and the West, the TPP.

>/v/
GG nonsense.

>/sp/
International sporting competitions inevitably bring up political issues. Slave labor building stadiums in Qatar, FIFA and IOC corruption, Cuban soccer players defecting to the US.

>/ck/
Veganism, food stamps, GMOs.

>/lit/
Literary theory and criticism, books with political context.

Just a few examples from boards I'm familiar with. You can make a case for banning discussion of specific political topics that are especially disruptive to boards, but you can't just put a blanket ban on any sort of political discussion on 4chan outside of /pol/.
>>
>>498338
There's a difference between politics and /pol/itics.
>>
>>498340
Obviously, but my point is that the distinction isn't always cut and dry. To go back to the /mlp/ example, there is no difference between MLP and /mlp/; anything to do with the show belongs on its containment board. Separating politics and /pol/itics requires a bit more nuance.
>>
How about restricting political discussion of governmental structures and national political parties to /pol/ huh

>>497926
/pol/ posts, from what I've seen, were just light banter in the form of cross board memeing. The people who respond in a pissy way are the ones who start the actual thread derailment, and it's almost always because they're offended by it.

I've never seen this much of a pushback against people who post /tv/, /sp/, /v/ etc. memes for the purpose of making bantz. /pol/ memes seem to be the only ones that warrant all the butthurt response, and conveniently, they tend to offend some people's political sensibilities. What a coincidence.

>/pol/ cares less than you think if people don't like them or not.
This just enforces "edgy highschoolers".
>>
>>498822
Yeah man aoe2 threads becoming literaly unusable because of /pol/ culture surely is dem evul sjws pushing their agenda.
>>
>>498838
Have you stopped to consider that sometimes, it might just be the board/thread that is shitting up itself? I don't know where aoe2 threads are, but if it's /v/, like I suspect, then the threads would be fucked regardless of /pol/ memes. They would shit themselves up with some different content, if /pol/ content weren't usable.

There's nothing intrinsically destructive about any content, with the possible exception of My Little Pony stuff. And that's because it's almost universally hated. /pol/ is the third most popular board on the site, so the two can't be compared.
>>
>>497926
>Why isn't this rule enforced?

It is. You just dont think it is because you think it means "dont post non-liberal opinions."

Because this place would be boring as heck without shitposting.

>>
>>497926
Because Moot and the mods had a hardon for /pol/ since it was the only place on 4chan that acted like old school /b/ for a time and did Original Content. This is why Moot let /pol/ overrun all the major boards with shitposting.

Then /pol/ turned on moot and moot threw up his hands and left 4chan (with the fappening as well playing a major role)

So basically /pol/ now dominates all major boards on 4chan.

The addition of /pol/ killed 4chan.

Its humor is extremely predictable and revolves solely around pretending to unironically support ultra conservative ideologies. There's a difference between humorous shitposting and just pretending to be a stormfag autist.

I don't think you understand what the words "political discussion" mean.
>>
>>500181
>>500184
Since when did /pol/ stand for political discussion?
>>
>>497926

Because it refers to a kind of shitposting that exclusively switches the topic into a politically driven one that is unrelated.

If the conversation ends up being something politically driven related to the topic (I.E someone shits on feminism in a videogame) it doesn't invoke the rule because it's still technically on topic.

It isn't meant to prevent opinions you don't like.

>Taking jokes as truth

moot destroyed /news/ because he personally disagreed with the far right mentality and racism emerging on it, then realized he was being biased and remade it. The name is simply a joke because moot didn't agree with /news/ but also making a point to any would be users that it was not a politically correct safe haven.

/pol/ was still intended to be a politics and news board. regardless of it's user base. The new /news/ is simply a result of people not wanting to use /pol/ or to simply have a reliable news feed without wading through the non-news related threads which are abundant on /pol/.
>>
>>500314
What the heck am I reading ???

""
On the 7th of December, 2014, Ben "Zyklon-B" Garrison threatened Moot with a lawsuit unless he took down /pol/. Since "the CEO of Troll, Inc." who was now an official SJW, couldn't take the problematic /pol/ anymore, so he purged it. First by deleting the capcha and letting in waves of /b/tards, furries, autists, /a/ and /lgbt/. He then proceeded to replace words that users typed such as "/b/" and "nigger" with "tumblr" and "cracker" respectively. Marquees displaying [trigger warning] show up on all posts, wordfilters are abundant, and the board has the title "The 8 steps of cuckolding" with subtitle ">she does it for fun". /pol/acks from all over were chased out of their home, after unsuccessfully trying to take over /s4s/ (because you can totally take over a board dedicated to nothing but memespam and mindless shitposting) they had no option but to retreat to their backup hugbox run by that midget on a wheelchair.
And nothing of value was lost.

>>
>>506021

And people who complain about /pol/ are like the boy who cried wolf.

They've abused this scapegoat so much and popularized it among newfags in a way that makes it so anyone who's not a reddit/tumblr refugee is "/pol/" at this point.

>call someone a nigger or make Jew jokes
That's /pol/.
>tell feminists to stop shitting up our boards
That's /pol/.
>think Donald Trump is funny and don't get triggered by him
That's /pol/.
>say anything politically incorrect
That's /pol/.
>talk about the current events in an industry which might have some political elements to it
That's /pol/.
>not being a white knight
That's /pol/.

At this point even if I don't go there regularly I wear "/pol/" as a badge of honor because that's what I get called when I say things that were pretty much standard on my boards 3-4 years ago before newfags started calling me /pol/ for it.

And now if /pol/ does start invading a board and make holocaust denial threads or complain about cultural marxism in every cartoon, while they would've been told to go to /pol/ a few years ago, now it's lost all meaning and they're preferable to outsiders who think anything that triggers them is "/pol/". So I'll take their brand of bullshit over the other type of faggotry, even if that means letting them run amok. That's why you think "/pol/" has infested every board.
