4chan has a flat system where everyone is equal in that they can post and be as visible as anyone else.
This, combined with anonymity, leads to a pure conversation where everyone speaks their minds because there's no image or identity to uphold. There's no way to censor someone either, there's no up/downvote brigading, there's no authority from having a long standing account, no personal conflicts or fanclubs that come with someone's post.
On Reddit you get all that. The vote system ensures the hivemind censors all, and on every single thread that doesn't ban it, the top posts are always irrelevant circlejerk jokes. The same jokes. There are like 10 of them and they get reposted always, and upvoted, at the expense of actual content, which is hidden somewhere below.
If you say something they really don't like you can get banned or shadowbanned.
Reddit is mostly for people who like talking to themselves and getting backpats for saying something they agree with.

The real problem with this is that these are (likely) all inside jokes from another thread made days before. It's not exactly LOLSORANDUMXD humor, it's people trying desperately to fit in via unfunny references. They will spout the same pun over and over because it will get upvoted, even though it lost its humor weeks before. Once a joke gets stale for the majority of people on 4chan, it will simply stop being posted because there's no gain in posting a joke that no one finds funny.
As others have said, Reddit is more about maintaining a reputation and a "karma" count than actually funny/interesting conversation. I think Reddit fosters actual discussion, if you follow the right subs. 4chan is definitely more about shitposting, but it's also an outlet for people to post their opinions without fear of censorship, which Reddit has a problem with.

Reddit has user accounts (although they are so disposable, who cares), and some retarded voting system.
I used to be on the hate Reddit bandwagon, but I signed up a year ago for Coontown and O&A subs, and branched out over time into small subs for niche interests of mine. It's not bad. The voting system itself is irrelevant on boards that don't get a lot of traffic. Everyone expands a post that is downvoted. At least I do.
As said though, where Reddit shines is where 2+2 would/will shine if/when it gets a higher amount of visitors. Think of an extremely niche interest you have, and if there isn't a general somewhere on 4chan, there's probably an entire sub dedicated to it. That's the value of reddit for me personally.

I came to 4chan in 2006 starting with /b/. I remember when the great reddit panic hit although I don't remember if it was 2010 or 2011. Anyway, I never went to reddit beforehand, but with gb2reddit being spammed everywhere, I finally decided to check out what it was all about. The format was shit, but it was a fairly good aggregator for news and current events on a wide arrange of topics so I've been going back ever since for the article stream, although I never bothered commenting over there.
I don't see reddit as a boogeyman. I think just the change in the younger generations, the increases accessibility of internet nation and worldwide, and just a change in the internet landscape had a far larger impact.

This was how things used to go, but Reddit just kept stealing more and more of 4chan's OC until people got frustrated and stopped producing. What was the last well known, across all boards OC that was created here outside of Baneposting?
Also newfag assimilation never happened properly after 2010 where they would just start spamming what they see is popular. It's why shit like >>494347, pepe and whatever the fuck that vector faget /r9k/ took from the Russian board and spammed everywhere is called, I forget, are still alive here even in the old days they would be actively shunned because they went main stream. Also what is killing OC is the lack of understanding of how the boards cultural operates (Yes this is a thing.) Or in the case of places like /v/, just brute force invasion and endless shitposting that has made any discussion about video games impossible because invaders from other sites use 4chan as a place to shitpost since they'd be banned if they did it on any other site.
Probably the major reason for this was moot slowly defanging what 4chan could do by banning invasions because in the old days, 4chan was the dark underbelly of the internet and if you poked it, it would maul you. Now thanks to that and an increase of public traffic from other sites, it's now a hapless giant.
It's fucking sad things went out this way.
Another big thing is people from other boards are just brazen about their the fact they crosspost now. An example of this, /sp/ where you regularly see them just post links to reddit. I'd also make the assumption that /sp/ more than likely has the most crossposters and outright normalfags with how much pepe and vectors are spammed there. It's absurd.

Don't get me wrong. Tripfags, namefags; you name them, are a piece of shit. But being part of a community doesn't mean that you have to loose the sense of yourself. Because with the upvote system the posts that will be the most seen are the posts everyone agrees with. No visibility for other opinions. It's not an hive-mind, but certainly an echo-chamber that will itself create an hive-mind the more people come.

If you disagree with the majority, no matter the subreddit, you can be assured that you will be downvoted to hell. If your opinion differ too much, the hive-mind will downvote you, and some will even go to your post history to downvote you or show to everyone things that you posted in the past. If you disagree with the hive-mind, you must be publicly shamed.

Reddit is a link board where topics can either link to an external site or only contain text. It is made up of user-created boards, known as "subreddits".
4chan is an imageboard where all topics must contain an image and replies may contain an image or text. It consists of Staff-created boards.
There are actually a TON of differences.
4chan Is this refreshing AJAX chatroom thing where every 30 seconds your computer checks to see if there are new posts and then updates the page. You don't have to register to participate in chats, and there are about 1000 chats on a given topic open at a time. After 500 or so messages, the chatroom goes into a state where you can't bump it anymore. And you need to either fill out captchas each time you say anything, or you need to donate 20 bucks to get donator tier status.
Reddit is more of a typical forum but with this upvote downvote system to try to make it so the best posts (in the opinion of redditors, which may very well be HIGHLY COUNTER to your opinion, as it most certainly is to mine) to the top, and the worst posts down to the bottom. There are lots of features to make it easy to keep track of many different threads, but otherwise it's just like a typical PHPBB except with the upvote downvote system. You also can't have avatars or signatures anything cool like that, which makes it pretty limited. They've got a Karma system which is sorta like the Rep system on regular message boards but it's not as good.
They're pretty much the opposite website. 4chan's a chatroom. Reddit is a shitty version of slashdot with less moderation.
