It's just a drawing of a frog, but some people on here flip out if they see it. One frog can derail a thread, I'm sure most people have seen it happen. I don't get it, someone please explain why this is such an issue for some.

because of the amount of smugness associated with the type of user who posts frogs.

The person who typically uses a picture of pepe to accompany their opinion is one of the types who are so certain that what they're saying is so right that it's impossible to be wrong, so they post this image of a smug looking frog to show said smug confidence.

Additionally it's basically the newest version of trollface but with even less effort due to things like reddit and facebook which long term chan users have an immediate shrieking hatred for, so it's a combination of all those thigns.

pepe is cancer thats why
>>
a.) It's a calling card of an r9k user and no one outside their board likes them much at fucking all
b.) It's been used to shitpost and flood boards like /r9k/ and /int/ into fucking oblivion at points, further reinforcing it a value-less image
c.) It's been picked up by ledditors and normalfags who don't even understand how to use it which is painful cringe to witness and associate yourself with by proxy
d.) Looks fucking retarded and is one of the ultimate forced memes, used to be just "sadfrog" like 4-5 years ago and somehow morphed into pepe shit

Most importantly that all pales in comparison to
e.) It is essentially impossible that a good post has a frog image attached to it. I personally can't recall a single time. It's always for shitposting or blogging. Maybe it's partially because using it makes your post look worse by default, but mostly because people using it are not really bothering to participate in conversations.

Since it's always the one pic 90% of the time this becomes easily noticed as a trend of useless/lazy baiting posts, hence "dumb frogposter" became a thing

Two janitors named Goofus and Gallant both hated their jobs and decided to quit.
Goofus is too slow to realize the difference between wanting real change and superficial change, so applies to be a janitor at another company and lives out the rest of his life in misery.
Gallant realises that real change was needed and sets his sights on a totally different job, where he lives happily ever after.

Did you catch the moral of the story?

This.
4chan was almost done with pepe, until a new generation came in, and revitalized him. Because they were/are in gradeschool, and thought this old meme was still funny.

I noticed the newfags come in, along with the phrase "dumb frogposter". Which was a phrase I never heard used on 4chan, until very suddenly. When in my first encounter, in the same thread, another anon tells me "when someone posts frogs, you have to say "dumb frogposter"". And then he proceeded to so, to everyone posting pepe. It was so childish the way he insisted using that phrase, that I just knew it was some new generation kiddie shit.

So basically, frogposters are just unfunny, meme-spouting kids in my eyes.
>>
>>489922
So you hate both groups or what?

Also I started dumb frogposter in /tv/ in I think, July 2014? It was to this guy who would post the same thread every night "You hanging in there /tv/?" I just got annoyed by the repetitive and lazy posts that were accompanied by frogs. It's a pretty reliable sign that the post or thread sucks and had little thought put into it, a marker of quality analogous to "image.jpg". I never spammed it outside of /tv/ though.
>>
>>489966
You're seriously bragging about starting something on 4chan.
This is probably the third time I've seen you do this shit.

People are trying to claim memetic horseshit phrases on 4chan now. This is how pathetic people vying for social capital are these days.

>>

Fuck off, please. Fuck off back to wherever you've come from. I love how you also try to make it look like I'm the pathetic person here, that there's something wrong with me instead of you faggots who came here within the last two years and try to claim things from an anonymous perspective. That shit is vastly pathetic. You're trying to separate yourself from an anonymous collective by taking credit for something that you specifically did, something that you can't even prove might I add. You don't get to hang onto specific things that identify yourself, or accomplishments as an anonymous poster on this site. Sorry it's not like Reddit.

Just googling "dumb frogposter 2014" shows the phrase in 2014 at least, on 4chan and elsewhere, with /r9k/ already being triggered by it.
>>

>>489814
Submitting low quality posts and using low quality images are against the rules. Shitposting is against the rules. Your argument is indefensible.
>>
>>489922
This.

I swear it was almost like it happened over night. My guess is there was a storm brewing on some particular boards, probably because their users didn't know how to ignore trolls and actually tried fighting back, which obviously would just have led to increased usage.

and I'm not talking about the "well I can predict the post quality will be low whenever I see one of these images" because there's probably hundreds of other images on 4chan that you can say that exact same thing about. So pretending that that's the only reason this one particular thing gets so much flak is bullshit.
There's more to it than that because it's basically reached meme levels. That image can't be posted on any board anymore without people getting upset, even on boards that basically almost never see pepe to begin with and really have no historical reason to hate it.

It's just a meme started by hatred that grew on a few particular boards which became over exaggerated and spread around by newfags whos first encounters with trolls were probably pepe, and have never even seen the phrase "feels good man" on 4chan before.
>>
>>489966
>So you hate both groups or what?
Yes, basically. It's like baneposting to me. There is someone pitching, and another hitting.

One guy pitches by posting pepe. And then multiple anons show up to try and hit it, by saying "dumb frogposter". So you're both at fault for playing your dumb shitposting game.
>>

>>
>>490230
literally who?
>>
Well OP, I'll take a stab at it.
Without fail, each and every time someone is posting a frog picture, they are appending something amazingly fucking retarded to the picture with their stupid posts that are either really retarded questions or completely pointless statements (in other words, shitposting), are deliberately attempting to continue some sort of frogposting memespouter's circlejerk that ends up being something about "meme magic," a session of jamming as many buzzwords and memes into one post as humanly possible or impossible, retarded post-2014 /pol/ or /int/ faggotry, typical edgy or retarded /r9k/ self-loathing or smugness in spite of having done nothing with one's life or what have you.

It doesn't help that the people who get criticized for acting like retarded frogposters and by extension memespouters rely on telling everyone who they disagree with to go back to /r/4chan, especially since they're using a meme that was made popular by such a subreddit anyway; not to mention the rest of the normalized Web 2.0.

It's not as if frogposters are just this persecuted group that everyone hates for absolutely no reason whatsoever, they earned their reputation through shitposting and acting like faggots (which they're actually fairly proud of; that's even more than enough reason to hate them). They acted like faggots, got called faggots, got offended at being called faggots and instead of changing their behavior and not acting like underaged twats every time they're met with criticism, they just intensified their original behavior and then turned right back around to wonder why everyone hates them.

tl;dr, frogposters have all of the smugness and unwarranted self-importance of smug anime girl posters and absolutely none of the intelligence nor the grace of them. Pepe has become the calling card of the inexperienced, the naive, the unintelligent and those that are proud of those things but will still get upset when people criticize them for being so damn stupid.
>>
>>490230
>It's a meme you dip!
You're no better than the frogposter.
>>
>>490327
>instead of changing their behavior and not acting like underaged twats every time they're met with criticism, they just intensified their original behavior
This has literally been true about every troll ever since the beginning of time. Why do people expect this case to be any different?

The misunderstanding here is this:
>They acted like faggots, got called faggots, got offended at being called faggots
>got offended at being called faggots
Come on, this is 4chan. I promise you this isn't true for nearly as many frogposters as you'd want to think.
Maybe that's where it starts, but there really are people who have never been a part of the initial cause for you hating pepe, but will post it anyway now. Either as a way to say "lighten the fuck up" or because they're trolls and they know it's going to upset people.

Take this for example
>tl;dr, frogposters have all of the smugness and unwarranted self-importance of smug anime girl posters and absolutely none of the intelligence nor the grace of them. Pepe has become the calling card of the inexperienced, the naive, the unintelligent and those that are proud of those things but will still get upset when people criticize them for being so damn stupid.
I'm tempted to just post the image to make light of what you're saying, because you're being so serious, and making such generalized claims about something so comparatively silly.
>>
>>490435
Not him but it's purely reactionary. You don't have people starting threads just to say dumb frogposter. In that regard, the person who says "dumb frogposter" is better.
>>490327
Good post. I basically assume every frogposter is underage. Otherwise if they actually make a half-intelligent post or are clearly an /r9k/ crossposter, I assume they built a really large folder, especially after the "rare pepe" autism, and they just can't move on due to sunk cost fallacy, and so they feel compelled to append images from that folder every so often to feel like they didn't waste their time collecting frog pictures.

Though again, a portion of those people clearly just saved big albums from imgur (due to the filenames), sourced via /r/4chan, so that just tells you even more about who frogposters are.

yes actually. My experience with smug anime posters is that while their posts are and should be classified as shitposts, they're so well constructed that it's almost impossible for anyone reading them not to laugh.

At least smug anime images have something endearing about them.

Smug anime girls are always posted by passive-aggressive weebs when they get cornered in an argument. They use these pics as a way of trying to prove a point.

Actually, frog posters put more effort into their posts than smug anime girl posters, because lots of them design their own pepes. Smug anime girls are 99% just screencaps of some form of weeb trash.
>>

So? That's worse because people are drawing shitty Deviantart tier trash. Anime actually looks good because it's drawn by a REAL artist.

Vice article from April 9, 2015 on the (then currently ongoing) Pepe Market Crash and how it came about as a result of the meme's use by Katy Perry and Nikki Minaj. Touches on the history the frog image and it's stages of evolution from Furie to "The Pepenning"

>An infographic posted to Reddit last week... (includes a) final speculative prediction that by 2016 Pepe will reach “Doge status,” leading to his self-implosion.

Pic is pepe "meme magic" post from Jan 2016

P.S. personally, I don't feel very strongly about frogposting one way or the other. I have to say I prefer frogposters to "dumb frogposter" posters.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Eliot was so remarkably insecure yet tried to act like he was really confident. I can't help but think of pepe posters as like little Eliot Rodgers who want to cause hurt because they are actually very insecure. It's very teen.

it's because the mobile user generation doesn't even try to do anything original anymore. frogposting, bane, fucking rolls dubs shit it's all the same shit we did years ago.
>>
>>493617
4chan's too fast.
Likely by the time you create and post something unique it's already irrelevant in the discussion, and on top of that it's going to scroll out of view in a few minutes, and probably only 5-10 people saw it if you're lucky.

I've been noticing problems with this more and more. I don't even look through macro images that much anymore because it always takes too long (compared to the speed of threads) to find something appropriate, now I usually just look for reaction images since it's easier to find something appropriate from the thumbnail.
and I don't think it's just me, because unless I'm mistaken it looks like all over 4chan the ratio of reaction images to others has been increasing.
>>
>>493468
His identity is vital to being an attention whore.
>>
>>493617
Don't kid yourself weeb, your smug anime girl are not original at all.
>>
>>494123
Explain how they aren't.
>>
>>494135
They're literally just screenshots. pepes aren't screenshots.
>>
>>494140
Pepes are worse. They're traced screenshots. Someone traced them with a really shaky hand and used the "fill" button on Paint. Look how wobbly the OP Pepe is, and how it's all solid colors.
>>
>>494147
It's still more effort than just taking a screenshot.
>>
>>494175
And what? People just magically know how to find the exact frame of an anime? You have to go hunt that frame down. Any of us could make a Pepe that some autist would save as a "rare" right now, but finding a good anime screenshot takes patience, effort, and the proper materials.

The difference is that, if you tried spamming Cockmongler or Reidick et al. on other boards, at best, you'd me met with a barrage of "gb2/b." But frogposters and other memeshitters think they're fucking special and can spam their shit wherever they want.
>>
>>494242
Probably because they don't just stick to "fuck off" or "gb2/wherever"

it's always "After intensive study I have concluded that the average quality of contribution of the frogposter seems to be sub-par no matter how hard they try. What a strange phenomenon that this image is always linked to posts that upset me, it's almost as if it was by design but do you really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet and try to make people angry?"
>>
>>494253
>Probably because they don't just stick to "fuck off" or "gb2/wherever"
what do you think 'dumb frogposter' is? It's so banal an insult that you can hardly say that the poster is mad. A boring response to a boring image (and likely a boring post as well). It's a stark contrast for 4chan's usual fare because of just how tame of a phrase it is.
>>
>>494256
Obviously I wasn't talking about that phrase.

Ok now make it into a pepe. The extra step involved is why frogposting requires more effort. Even moreso if designing from scratch.

Because they add nothing relevant to whatever's being discussed in the thread and purposely use froshit to shitpost in threads. Frogshit is the new trollface, except more unfunny and autistic.
>>
>>496161
I know right? It's so pathetic it's almost as if they were doing it on purpose.

But who would do such a thing on the internet?
>>
>>496161
Lots of people that don't post frogs post dumb stuff too. I don't think pepe posters are any worse or better than other posters. If anything they're a bit more creative since some of them create new pepes.
