By my calculations the overall quality of posts on /v/ could increase by 3.5 to 6 percent if shill/marketer accusations and bait-posting were banned.

They do nothing for the board. It's impossible to talk about new games without some faggot rushing in to get his sweet internet karma for an epic ironic "marketer" post. If you have the least bit controversial opinion for the board someone's gonna shit out a "bait!1" post with absolutely nothing of substance. Just like announcing reports is a bannable offense now so should be "bait" and "marketer" posts. IMO bring back the "advertising" option for the report form though, so babies can get the shill accusations out of their system. Those reports can probably pretty safely for the most part be redirected to /dev/null.

since when is there any posts of quality on /v/?
>>
Don't forget people who go "Here's your (You)" or whatever like that. I'm sure that would improve /co/ a lot too. I always hated that shitty "This is bait" meme and I have no idea why it has lasted this long or why it's allowed.

What, do you get called out for baiting?
git gud at baiting

What's worse? One Troll, or the 125 dummies who reply to the Troll?

>shill/marketer accusations

Except a lot of the time it's true. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between someone being excited about an upcoming game versus a blatant marketer reposting the exact same PR text and images dozens of times a day, which happens on /v/ a lot.

/tv/ is unfortunately victim to marketing as well.
>>

>Except a lot of the time it's true
Even if that was true (which I don't believe for a second, but for the sake of the argument let's assume it is) the right course of action is to just report and move on and not shit up the board with stupid gotchas, especially since every fifteen-year-old faggot on /v/ operates on a hair trigger resulting in ten thousand false accusations for every one genuine marketer. A new game just came out and people are talking about it? "Marketer!" Every fucking release, every fucking thread.
>a blatant marketer reposting the exact same PR text and images dozens of times a day, which happens on /v/ a lot.
These are the epic ironic marketer posts I'm talking about. Okay, viral marketing HAS genuinely happened in a few cases but it's not EA or Ubisoft starting the same thread every day with the same image littered with tons of ®s, ©s and ™s. If you want to know what real viral marketing looks like check out the whole Andromeda saga from a few years back. Again, if you really think it's a marketer (and if it's not that it's certainly falls under "Garbage outside of /b/"), just report and move on, don't further shit up the board.
>>

No the quality would rise if video games were actually good and had some soul again.
>>
>>469614
>don't reply to ads, just move on
>just let the newfags bump the shit and have their fun anon, stop interfering!
>just ignore it! It will go away if you do!
Anti-anti-marketers are so stupid
>>
>>469526
Damn, that image is great. I'm going to save it and use it to reply to people who post "this is bait" images.

>No the quality would rise if video games were actually good and had some soul again.

Demonstrably false. Undertale, an actually good game with some soul (seven, to be precise), was released and only caused the quality of /v/ to further decrease. At this point, people refuse to accept that a video game can be this good, and only shitpost harder when they hear its name, with accusations of shill, furry, tumblr, etc.

If a game like this could not save /v/, we are well and truly fucked.

Bait literally means something designed to get replies.
What was wrong with wanting replies to your posts, that's what this website is for isn't it?

>Even if that was true (which I don't believe for a second, but for the sake of the argument let's assume it is)

You have no idea what you're talking about.

>the right course of action is to just report and move on

Sure, let's just sit back while the shills keep bumping their own threads to the first page and displacing any on-topic discussion. That sure sounds like a productive plan.

Viral marketing is seriously disruptive to the boards. Self-modding and saging threads is not disruptive because said threads offer nothing constructive to the site to begin with. You may as well be complaining about someone shitting into a sea of shit.

>just report it

The mods have long since given up on dealing with commercial spam, so now it's up to the users to take back their own boards from the marketers.

>Okay, viral marketing HAS genuinely happened in a few cases

It happens every fucking day, you stupid jackass. Hence OP coming here to complain about it.

Go be a contrarian faggot somewhere else.
>>
>>470226
People think smugly pointing it out means they've "won" by revealing the OP's scheme. It's an excuse for people to pretend they're clever.

By my calculations, you have 69.34% chance of being a shill yourself.

Opinion dismissed.

Undertale would have been a cult hit with /v/ culture like yume nikki and such if it was rleeased a few years earlier.
