No one will spoonfeed you this, you can find it if you google it or even if you check this website's rules
>>
It's a polite way to post when you say something off-topic.
>>
If you type "sage" in the options field it simply does not bump the thread. That's all there is to it.

Not everyone is an impolite dick like you.

>not spoonfeeding someone who could literally get a answer by using google and looking at the first fucking result is being a impolite dick

If it is, everyone should be a impolite dick then
>>
>>381242
No they shouldn't, dick.
>>
>>381246
Yes they should. Don't encourage fucking lazy entitled faggots. If they can't do a 5 second simple google search, they don't deserve a fucking answer
>>
fuck you OP
>>
>>381221
You don't get it, do you?

This website has a culture and you must adapt to it if you want others to treat you nicely and politely. We dislike lazy people. If what you want to find can be found on the first page of Google, chances are no one will tell you the answer. Because your ability of Googling it is the same as everyone else's, yet you choose to "Google" it at 4chan instead of using the real website.

Go fuck yourself. I'll help people who need help and there's nothing you can do about it.

Except for no one helped OP yet. Half of the answers are jokes and the other half are way too vague.

By this point OP probably already just checked the FAQ or Googled it.

Don't use tripcodes when it's not necessary, that's another element of our culture

>when is it necessary?
People will tell you to use it when it's necessary.

>It's a polite way to post when you say something off-topic.
Off-topic posts are not allowed.
Remove sage, it's just a tool for rule-breakers.
>>
It hurt people's feelings so they hid it so it would stop being used.
4chan is a sad excuse for an imageboard.
>>
>>381415
That's not a tripcode dude, it's just a name

>>381664
We're not going to spoon feed you, but since some information might be hard to come by all I'll tell you is the options field used to be called the "email" although nobody used it for email. You should be able to figure out the rest.

You can add two functionalities to your post

If you type "sage" at the options field, it'll sage
If you type "nonoko" I think it takes you to the index after the post is sent
If you type "nonokosage" it does both

I wish that was actually true. /a/ is literally the only board on this entire site where global rule 16 is enforced. Everyone else loves spoonfeeding.
And then they wonder why their boards are overrun by people who shouldn't be there.

>I'll spoonfeed just because you are trying to be le enigmatic riddleman as if 4chan was some secret society
and you're trying too hard to sound like you've been on the internet for more than a few years.
Not spoonfeeding is not a 4chan tradition, that's an old internet tradition that goes way back.

Which of course you wouldn't know because you haven't learned to think for yourself, probably because someone spoon fed you. See the problem here? This isn't to keep people out, that's why I gave that person the hint I thought he could use but I didn't deprive him of the opportunity to figure out how to learn things for himself either.

You've also given that user the impression that you've supplied them with a full list of features of the options field, but in fact you haven't. There's more.

We need sage visible again. I know it got abused in the past, but we really do need it back

Sage only really matters on fast boards, wherein it really matters. You reply without bumping a thread.

On super slow boards, sage is basically a form of humility that you think your post doesn't add enough to make the thread worthy of being pushed to the top of the board listing.

I have sage on by default and only remove it for posts where I spent a long time typing or I constructed my own image or something like that.

This post I'm posting right now has sage in the options field. It doesn't meet my standards of quality.
>>
The pre-Hiro culture of /qa/ was one of spoonfeeding. This board would be better, if it were to return to that.
>>
>>381984
>I know it got abused in the past, but we really do need it back
Before visible sage was removed, I would use noko+sage when saging a thread. Using visible sage was seen as an insult by people who made the thread or who liked the thread and they would often bump the thread after seeing you sage it just to spite you. So unless it was the case of half the board sage bombing a thread (which can't really be done anymore due to post timers), visible sage was counterproductive.

And sometimes when I was having a borderline off-topic, tertiary discussion in a thread with some other person (e.g. there's an Evangelion thread, and someone casually mentions Ideon as being one of the inspirations for Evangelion, and another person mentions how they recently watched Ideon and how they hated Sheryl for being a huge bitch and I start arguing with that loser and try to explain to him how she did literally nothing wrong), I would prefer not to bump that thread with these somewhat off-topic replies and if I used visible sage people would misunderstand it as me being hostile towards the thread itself and start reacting negatively towards me or being confused as to why I'm saging a perfectly normal, on-topic thread. I had a few situations like that so I stopped using visible sage entirely. It wasn't worth the risk of having it derail the thread.

There should be some line in the sand though.

OP's question basically means he never even looked at the FAQ, maybe he doesn't even know it exists.

It's not a black and white issue, but for this particular issue considering that there is literally a section in 4chans FAQ titled "What is sage?" it would be much more helpful if you directed him there instead of just giving him the answer.

>Using visible sage was seen as an insult by people who made the thread or who liked the thread
Why remove a feature just because some people from a certain board got butthurt?
The email field was still useful sometimes, especially as a surprise box or newfriend detector.

how often do mods auto sage threads?
do mods check /qa/
>>

>how often do mods auto sage threads?

Not enough, considering those exact same /d/ threads have been getting bumped to the front page for weeks now.

>>384495
>do mods check /qa/

Rarely. Only to delete porn and shit, and even that tends to stay up for a few hours before they notice.
>>
>>384495
Yes, given how quickly they deleted the irc logs in this thread I imagine they watch it very closely.
