Personally I'm trying to come up with some acceptable formula for a modless site. There's enough altchans that I'm sure someone would implement such an idea it seemed plausible.
I think there has to be a solution, it's probably just not obvious and wouldn't be perfect so it would look flawed on the surface but a deeper analysis would show that it produces a useable site that's sustainable long term.
I'm doing my best, but I probably can't do it alone. That's actually the only reason I browse the /qa/ shitfest, someone might post a decent solution maybe without even realizing it. I must remain vigilant to save everyone.

What seems more likely is that a lot of oldfags and regular posters left for good, but since there was so much media attention after GG/Fappening, while some of this new influx of users ended up leaving over the months, some of them stayed and essentially "replaced" the regular posters and oldfags who permanently left. Although I think quite a few boards are slower than they were before 2014, so it's probably like this guy says, the new bunch of posters don't contribute as much.
The userbase is hugely different from 1-2 years ago on every board.
By the way GG existed on 4chan for years before, it just didn't have a name yet.

If you use alexa as source: it's inaccurate. I think traffic has gone up, if the stats on the front page are correct.

Pretty much. Newfags need good examples, and strong self-moderation to assimilate and become quality posters. Once that's gone, all hell breaks loose and there's no salvation.
