If you think 4chan is shit, why do you still come here?

Day after day of browsing this site, I see nothing but people complaining about the quality of this site.

I'd legitimately like to know why you still come here everyday if it upsets you so much.

And don't give me that THE RIDE NEVER ENDS bullshit, actually give me your reasons.

Nobody is making you browse 4chan but yourself.
>>
I like anonymous imageboards of a particular size.
>>
>>363340
Because reality is shit. Fake stuff is awesome and fun. Lies are cool. Censorship makes me feel safe and comfortable. But there's just something really refreshing about seeing the unaltered shit-tier reality of people and what they think. It's nice to feel bad about being yourself, but still be yourself. It's liberating to not have consequences.
But most of all, it's habit.
>>
>>363353
What a horrible life you have.
>>
>>363360
Welcome to 4chan.
>>
>>363340
>THE RIDE NEVERS ENDS
>not real reason
Leave while you still can.
>>
Once you come here everywhere else you used to go is less appealing. 4chan is fast paced and sometimes entertaining and you can shitpost to your heart's content and even get the replies you so desperately crave in minutes. You can get all the satisfaction you need here.
It's terrible but you can't get that experience anywhere else, and once you have it, nowhere else you go does it for you anymore.
Also I've forgotten what I used to do on the internet before 4chan, and I don't have any motivation to do anything else.
I really wish Hiro would shut this place down.
>>
>>363414
>you can shitpost to your heart's content and even get the replies you so desperately crave in minutes. You can get all the satisfaction you need here.
This is one of the saddest things I've read on the internet.
>>
It's easy.

Using a forum or blogsite or any site that requires a name means you have an identity to uphold. Here if I fuck up and say something retarded I can just leave that thread and whatever I said won't follow me. There's no consequences for anything you do on here.

Now 4chan is the safe community and everywhere else seems scary. It's sort of ironic.
>>
>>363424
It also means that when someone is nice to you, you know it's genuine. Or, they're just bullshitting. Either way, you know they're not saying it to improve their e-reputation.

Sincerity is good.
>>
>>363340
>Now 4chan is the safe community and everywhere else seems scary.
This is the point of no return. Once you reach it you're here forever.

By "here" I don't necessarily mean 4chan, I'm pretty sure we'll all be using anonymous communication in one form or another for the rest of our lives. Unless governments decide to completely get rid of anonymity online somehow, but in that case I'll probably just kill myself.
>>
>>363340
It's not cherry tinted like a lot of sites.
>>
>>363340

>>
>>363340
People wouldn't bother wasting their time here if they didn't care. They complain because they care and want things to be better.
>>
>>363456
>They complain because they care and want things to be better.
Things won't get better unfortunately.

1. 4chan's userbase nowadays is far too big
2. Because of anonymity, most people use 4chan to post bait and troll people to make themselves feel better about their shit lives
3. So many boards on 4chan are paranoid and think that other boards/websites are the reason their board is shit
4. Hiro will keep adding more and more niche and unneeded boards and fragment the community further and further
5. 4chan will keep doing more and more controversial things that hit the news and brings in more people that have no idea how imageboards work
>>
>>363467
You don't think 4 is a solution to 1?
>>
>>363474
No, because both will be cancelled out by 3.

More boards equals more boogeyman ammunition (especially since they're unneeded boards). Hiro needs to learn that /qa/ isn't the vocal majority on 4chan.
>>
>>363340
>Nobody is making you browse 4chan but yourself.

cool observation bro
>>
>>363532
You'd think it's common sense, but remember, this IS 4chan. They don't listen to common sense.

After being here for so many years I can't stomach non-anonymous websites.

Going to forums with usernames sickens me, with their already established inner circle and faggots with 9000 posts I don't feel like making an account.

Anonymous posting is so good because every post weights the same and I don't need to appeal to others in fear of being forever shunned.
>>
>>363340
I'm addicted to the constant stream of useless information I get here. And I believe I have a false sense of hope for this website. Hope that maybe much of the userbase will grow up and realize what exactly 4chan can be while we still have it. Hope that the people that crave replies for the sake of replies will somehow find that the many stupid replies they receive are not actually filling, and that it is in fact something that slowly destroys themselves as individuals. People that make empty posts for replies are also just as bad as those that crave upvotes on any websites. One reply = One upvote to them. The worst part is that they don't care if the replies they receive are positive or not. Offering nothing of real value, while disrupting those that do. "Cancer" has more than one face, but this one is undoubtedly among the ugliest.

Everyday I walk around people and wish I could hear their thoughts

This site is allows me to see others thoughts, and because it is anonymous I can contribute some of my thoughts too

At the end of the day, its all just fascinating
>>
>>364017
no it isnt. I laugh at my own jokes without caring if anyone replies at all.

Its incredibly sad when people post just to get replies.
>>
>>364030
Post counts are stupid, but everything else sounds like a lack of self confidence.

And plus 4chan already will shun you for various shit.
>>
>>364099
I do it every now and then, like once every few months, just when people are super butthurt about something. Is that bad?
>>
Great thread you made my might. You made me see aspects of 4chan I didn't know of, and I thought that I already knew most of them: this is 4chan for me, something you can't explain because you don't know it until it happens, I still browse /b/ sometimes and along the incredible pile of crap they have, I can find the little things that make this place so unique. Thanks to everyone.
>>
It's like critizising America

You complain because why not but at the same time you're thankful you're not in some shithole somewhere else in the world.

>>363340
Because it has the largest pony community.

Sturgeon's law: 90% of everything is shit.

I come for the 10% of information that is funny, useful, or interesting.

I'd attribute at least part of it to some kind of social retardation and something akin to stockholm syndrome, too, though. Sturgeon's law appears to apply to individuals as well.
>>
>>363340
It's shit, but it's where I belong.
>>
>>363424
This is true, except for shite boards like /pol/, /int/ and /sp/

Flags are cancerous and reddit-tier behaviour, it's no surprise these boards read like the front page of reddit
>>
Because I fucking grew up here. I spent my last middle school and all of my high school years on this fucking site and I'm still here at age 20, and I want it to get better. I still find enjoyment in the content here, and it's an important part of my life. We all came to this site because we had a certain part of our thinking in common. Complaints are justified.
>>
Some people will cite the old saying "It's a shithole but it's my shithole" or "or it's a shithole but everywhere else manages to be even worse". Personally I just like the content that gets posted on here and I've hung around far too much to go anywhere else.

I enjoy 4chan but when it comes to some of the boards they are a bit shit. I think one of the main reasons I continue to browse is that they have some moments of gold and I literally have nowhere else to go.
Where else can I discuss my kids cartoons, talk tech, spam MESSI MESSI MESSI and lose my shit with a bunch of others during live events? Honestly I don't know the answers, so I stay here. Some boards are decent, others not so much but I've grown accustomed to discussing my interests with a bunch of strangers, not sure I could do without
>>
>>365435
>I literally have nowhere else to go.
This. Where else can I discuss music seriously, but not dead seriously, and enjoy a little shit posting every now and then?
>>
>>366254
>discuss music seriously
People shit on /mu/ a lot for being pretentious, but they are(or were, last I checked) still really fucking good for discussion of all kinds of music if you ignore the shitposting, and they have some actually decent OC sometimes.
>>
>>363340
The ones who complain about keeping their respective board pure or cleaning up actual off-topic shitposting are happy here

The ones who scream about deleting boards, removing racism, and pushing diversity are those who only came here recently after the shooting or are a butthurt interest group that keeps trying to get things changed because the site hurts their feelings.

I put up the thread about asking for some sort of moderation for /k/ - weapons to remove the /a/ anime waifu threads and to remove the goddamn Undertale General thread because that shit just doesn't belong. It seems as if the person who watches that board holds no interest in that hobby, so it is literally /b/ right now.

I am also one of the people who fights for all freedoms, so I post in threads that need an opposing view. It gets frustrating as to how absurd some people are, but I enjoy the funny things people say when there is no filter. It is what makes 4chan a great place.
>>
>>366420
>anime waifu threads on /k/
Huh, I didn't know /ak/ went both ways. Are the waifus at least from gunporn manga or something?
>>
>>366423
It's upotte!! You know, the shit /a/ got tired of posting/talking/waifuing/masturbating about 3 years ago

That and the thread just turns into a waifu thread, no holds barred. The Undertale thread is using drawn pictures with shittily-drawn firearms in them to justify posting it there. If that is the case, excuse me while I post gays with poorly cropped firearms covering their junk on the board
>>
>>366426
>upotte!!
Ugh, I was hoping /k/ might appreciate Desert Punk more than /a/ or something, but ugh. Sorry to here that you got our cancer.
>>
>>366434
Yeah right. Back in 2012 there was a split on /k/ and those who were adults and tired of the meme spewing, off-topic shitposting went to the other sites, even to the sites requiring logins. Desert Punk was talked about a bit from 2008 to 2010, then never heard from again.

/k/ has allowed noguns, underage kids, and off-topic shitposters to run fucking free. It was always bad since there was nearly no moderation since 2006, but since 2013 it has been bad. 2015 is the worst /k/ has ever been.
>>
>>366442
Sounds almost like /tg/.
>>
Because this place is the largest forum for anonymous expression.

I'm upset at the moment because hiro is just fucking doing whatever people on this shitty 'hidden' board tell him to do. It's like fucking total anarchy.

The only good thing His Gookness has done is create /his/ for nerds and /trash/ for furries.
>>
>>363456
This tb honest

>>366442
>>366449
Sounds like half the boards actually.
>>
>>366452
/his/ is going surprisingly well.
>>
>>366452
For someone who ran 2ch and supposedly admired board culture or whatever, he seems to have no idea how these communities work. Him thinking he can accurately gauge what boards actually want(or just assuming that what the majority of a board wants is actually a good idea) through this weird Q&A shit is retarded. Language barrier and the shitty mods advising him aren't helping either.
>>
>>366442
>went to the other sites, even to the sites requiring logins
That's sad. Did you go anywhere else, or did you just keep maining /k/ in the hope it'd get better?
>>
>>366469
I go to /k/ and just hope it gets better. I drawfag a lot when some of my time on the site, check out outdoors threads, see what's happening with /pol/ for laughs and gasps, and enjoy /o/.

I fucking pray /k/ gets something for moderation to be focused on weapons discussion as it is a fun hobby.
>>
>>366472
I sympathize and hope that Hiro can actually get the mods to give a shit about some of these boards. Also since apparently the board is off topic as hell now, can you recommend anywhere else that's good for learning about guns and other weapons? Like the mechanics and history? I've been meaning to get into it.
>>
>>366482
Believe it or not, there are boatloads of historic documentaries on firearms, weapons, the makings of weapons through the ages, and the craftsmanship of it all right on Youtube.

I am heading to bed, but search Youtube for "History of X" for the weapon you are interested in, or even terms like "documentary of weapons production" and the like. If this thread is still up in the morning tomorrow, I'll drop some direct links for you. IF you can give me a few types of weapons you are interested in, I can give you some links tomorrow morning (10 hours from now)
>>
Im actually really thankful for this website.

I got in trouble recently because I said some controversial stuff on actual social media

>inb4 using facebook
but seriously, there is literally no other website where I can truly be myself without having to worry about hurting some idiots feelings
>>
>>366487
Thanks man, that's real cool of you. Off the top of my head stuff I'd like to know history of: daggers, short swords, machetes, pistols, revolvers and I guess brass knuckles. Also if it isn't too much trouble, what the best/most cost effective/most popular types of pistols and revolvers are, like is there a honda civic of pistols?
>>
It's honestly habitual at this point. I literally visit 4chan every single day and I can't stop.
>>
>>366397
>still really fucking good for discussion of all kinds of music
Probably applicable to all boards, there's good discussion in them among all the shite
>>
>>363340
I don't think 4chan is shit, only the mods mostly.
>>
>>366492
THIS
>>
>>366492
>there is literally no other website where I can truly be myself without having to worry about hurting some idiots feelings
Unfortunately, a lot of people come to this site with the intention of hurting people's feelings.

I wish this site could be friendly and anonymous at the same time.
>>
>>366512
Tales of the Gun. This is a huge series and very good:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG6GlRG3h5w

Search for "Tales of the Gun" - there are tons of episodes. In fact they cover everything about firearms and the more popular brand names. It is a perfect series for what you are looking for in firearms.
>>
>>366778
Oh cool it looks like it goes over mechanics as well, thanks a lot.
>>
>>366741
Because it's been a nonstop cycle of
>OMG must post 4chan so hardcore must post all time. Fuck any decent conversation or even content dumps
for fucking 8 years straight. Of course it's gonna make culture change
>>
>>363340
4chan is awful, sure. But a lot of the other places I've seen for discussing shit manage to be even worse.

for example, as bad as /v/ might be, it's not even close to GameFAQs tier (or as bad as any other large video game board), and if you really feel like talking about videogames (unlike /v/ usually does), you actually can get reasonable, decent replies
been on a bunch of tech boards and they're all worse than /g/ somehow and have actual mouthbreathing retards everywhere (which is depressing, because /g/ seems to hate technology in the way that people joke that /v/ hates games, it's kind of depressing)

there's also good things
/wsg/ and /m/ are genuinely good boards, even with their faults
[s4s] is kind of fun to post on, even if it's retarded
/jp/ is a bit of a mess (the catalog makes it look like "[s4s]: 2hu edition") but there's some threads I go in regularly
shitposts tend to have decent pictures attached to them, I have a 5.5GB folder of pics from 2013 on (kind of wish I had some of my older 4chan pics)

also, >>363414
the speed of 4chan posting is pretty satisfying
>>
I don't feel the need to even say why because everyone has already said it but it's pretty interesting to find so many people who think the same way.

On the other hand I still think that because many of us have spent a year or more on this site that a lot of our sense of humor is based around stuff we will only find here. If we all met up in real life to do something as a group, we would have nothing to talk about for the most part.
>>
>>363360
If you think hard about it, you're the same way.
>>
it's shit, but it's still the only interesting place left on the internet
>>
4chan doesn't really upset me at all. I've been here since 2007 although I only really browse /int/ anymore. It's consistently entertaining and I have nothing to complain about. I also browse /tv/ occasionally as well and find the memes and shitposting legitimately funny, so no complaints there either, even though people seem to think /tv/ needs to be fixed.

4chan is good for passing entertainment. If you feel so strongly about 4chan that it's disappearance would strongly affect your life and you are legitimately mad about how the site doesn't meet your expectations, your priorities in life are probably quite fucked desu senpai.
>>
>>363340
I have no where else to go really. This place is a habit at this point. It's like when you hate alcohol, but you still drink it every day because you have forgotten ahow to do anything while sober anymore.
