Do you like it or hate it?

Do you hate it willingly in order to fit in because a lot of people on 4chan hate it?
>>
I hate 4channers who never shut up about reddit and I also hate redditors who come to 4chan and get upset when they realize that 4chan isn't reddit.
>>
reddit is great for news on a lot of different subjects, but it has a terrible comment system.

As for 4chan's hate for reddit, it's just another retarded boogeyman. Before reddit, 4chan blamed all their problems on Gaia Online.

I wouldn't care if they didn't keep coming in here with their retarded misconceptions on what this website is.
Unfortunately, they do.
Anyone who doesn't despise reddit with a passion or says "it's just another boogeyman" has probably never visited /r/4chan. Anyone who defends reddit itt is probably a redditor himself.

I don't give a shit about it. I've never browsed it but I don't even care if Redditors come here. Anons are already retarded, Redditors are probably no better or worse on average. "Reddit" these days is just a snarl word for "anything I disagree with".
>>
>>345685
I use reddit, and /r/4chan is complete cringe cancer. Using it as an example of what reddit is like in general is equivalent to judging all of 4chan by /b/.
There's a huge variety of subs all with completely opposing viewpoints, from neonazi to radfem, from only serious discussion to all-shitposting. I'm not fond of their voting/karma system, but I do use some subs for things that I can't find on other websites like 4chan.
I just think that a lot of anons are too obsessed with hating reddit. Hating tumblr/reddit is fine, but dragging them into any unrelated discussion and calling anyone you disagree with tumblr/reddit is obnoxious and pure cancer.
I know half of you are going to be triggered by the mere mention of using another popular website, and tell me to fuck off back to reddit.
>>
people here just associate reddit with the asshole of reddit.

Tech and DIY stuff or news related parts can be pretty informative. People who browse some of these subs are probably not even aware of the stupid culture other subs have spawned.

It's like associating 4chan's entire userbase with /b/

>>
Everyone I've ever seen complain about Reddit has been what appears to be an incredibly shitty poster. Same goes for Tumblr, 9gag, Gaia, Ebaumsworld, and most crossboard redirects.

Some of the people who complained about SA were okay.
>>
1. There's no way to determine conclusively if one anon is a redditor or not.
2. Reddit is one of the most popular websites in the world with 165 million unique visitors each month. Of course many 4channers also browse reddit and that's okay.
3. We shit in our own bed. Those of us who were here during the great reddit panic would know all the "ironic shitposting" was from 4channers and not some subversive reddit infiltration group. Moot and the mods didn't step in to try to crack down on it until it was too late and the rest is history.
>>
>>345532
I've given it a chance and I don't really care for it. The way comments display is stupid, as is their popular lingo (shitpost, circlejerk, dank, etc.). But the people on 4chan who spam "go back to reddit" over every little thing manage to be even worse.

Mostly when I go to reddit it's for one of the obscure subreddits that don't contain any "reddit culture". I also like OutOfTheLoop because it's a good way to keep up with and understand what people are talking about.
>>
It's bad. The software pisses me off (nestled replies especially) and I dislike the community.
>>
>>345532
This board needs to be deleted.
>>
>>345775
>Those of us who were here during the great reddit panic would know all the "ironic shitposting" was from 4channers and not some subversive reddit infiltration group.

I was young and more retarded when it first happened and I actually believed we were under attack by Reddit. It wasn't until years later I found out all the "le" shit was blown out of proportion and only a very very small part of retards and outcasts on reddit even used it.
>>
>>345781
Don't worry about it. There are plenty of people on this site who are depressingly old and still retarded.
>>
>>345721
>>345766
Oh no, the 4chan hugbox has been triggered. Get over yourself. 4chan isn't your property and Reddit isn't the source of your problems. 4chan is.
>>
>>345792
Seriously, for all their talk about how everyone else is /tumblr/ it's the most tumblr-like behavior I've seen - they get triggered so fucking easily.
>>
>>345781
>t wasn't until years later I found out all the "le" shit was blown out of proportion and only a very very small part of retards and outcasts on reddit even used it.
Wait people actually think reddit uses "le" unironically?
>>
>>345798
And amusingly, people on tumblr actually do not get triggered that often, despite the reputation.
>>
>>345776
>But the people on 4chan who spam "go back to reddit" over every little thing manage to be even worse.
This. And I like /r/outoftheloop too.
You find good subs, but they can grow cancerous quickly. There's so much diverse content on reddit, you're bound to find something you can tolerate.
Though the upvote system inherently isn't good for dicussion.
>>
>>345532
I hate it, and I fucking hate it when people accuse you of only hating it "fit in"

I've always hated stuff like that and I have my own personal reasons for it, and those reasons are based on the site itself _not_ the community. (although anyone who could stand to use a site with those features already tells me more than I need to know about them).
I also hated sites like myspace and facebook long before it was ever a thing on 4chan to not like them.

Anyone who talks about the communities of these sites as if that's the primary problem doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.
Those sites are fundamentally flawed from the way they are designed, the cancerous communities just grow around them as a result.
>>
>>345803
Tumblr, like most online "communities" has a huge variety of blogs and users, though there are trends.
It's not hard or rare to find the kind of "sjw" retards everyone complains about on tumblr, but they don't make up the whole website, and good content shouldn't be shunned just because of its source website.
I think the tumblr userbase skews lower in age on average than 4chan and reddit though.
>>
>>345792
I bet you're the same kind of cancer who says "h0rr Duar 4chan is only for shitposting and e/b/ic memes hursz Hoord". This is why we don't have originalfags here anymore.
Reddit, ebaums, 9gag aren't a "boogeyman", they were/are a problem for 4chan and everyone who defends them should be fucking permarangebanned.
>>
go back to reddit was just the stupid last ditch response when an anon doesn't have a retort that succeeded and replaced "u mad"
>>
>>345532
I hate it. I also hate whoever says reddit hate is a meme, redditors defending their site and people who says "go back to reddit" for everything.
>>
>>345822
I can't wait until /reddit/ becomes to meme-y to use unironically. It's overused enough to be one.
>>
>>345825

no u --> u mad --> go back to reddit --> go back to tumblr

I wonder what will be next
>>
I vote for go back to /4chan/
>>
>>345822
literally everything that is looked down upon by a community as a whole will be used that way eventually.

Implying that the whole concept of hating the thing in the first place originated as nothing but a last ditch effort is fucking stupid.
>>
I'm indifferent to it but everyone I know personally who goes to that site is really fucking obnoxious.
>>
>>345819

No specific site is to blame. The root cause is the same that has befallen many other websites and hobbies: it becomes too popular and the flood of new users outpaces the ability of the established community to acclimatize them.

With all the publicity 4chan got from 2007-2009 floods of newfriends came in. You could tell a change in 4chan but I personally didn't think it was too bad. A few more years with constant streams of new users as 4chan lost it's boogeyman appeal and kids had easier and easier access to the internet finally brought in too many waves of newfriends completely and utterly outnumbering the older users.

It's happened to many sites and many hobbies and will continue to happen.
>>
>>345835

4chan didn't talk about or even give a fuck about reddit until some trolls started posting rage comics there and then linking to the reddit threads on /b/. People got pissed just encouraging further posting of 4chan material on reddit.
>>
>>345853
That just shows they didn't hate it and they weren't on a witch hunt against anyone who used it.
Those probably are two entirely separate issues that somehow got mixed together. On one hand it's natural for people of a primarily anonymous site who like anonymity in conversations to think a site that shows you popular rated content by default is a bad idea. On the other hand you have people who get upset at the community itself for one reason or another.

All the "go back to reddit" crap comes from the later, but whenever arguments about reddit pop up they get lumped together and supported (probably unintentionally) by all the people who simply dislike the site itself and don't necessarily give a shit about the community.
and that's why I think using reddit as an insult became more commonplace here.

So we shouldn't take all the hatred too seriously, but that also doesn't mean a lot of people here don't genuinely dislike the site, and as a result probably also have a low opinion of anyone who uses it.
>>
>>345532
I never heard of it before coming here, I assume the meme started as some kind of subtle viral marketing.
>>

I learned about Reddit through 4chan, and I would have never become a regular on Reddit if it wasn't for your inability to shut the fuck up about it.

I see imgur filenames and x-posts from /r/gaming on /v/ all the time.
>>
>>345938
To be completely fair, imgur can be used by more than just redditors. I use it because it's a very convenient place to upload images without the bullshit limitations that other sites have.
>>
>>345830
Go back to reddit and go back to tumblr are still being used simultaneously.
>>
>>345895
>None of those guys are problems

>>
>>345938
yeah but see the thing is you're still a piece of shit for even being able to stomach using a site like that in the first place.
It's the ability of redditors to tolerate and even actually enjoy using a site with features like reddit that makes people here think you're all cancer.
>>
>>345961
How fucking weak-willed are you that you think you need to be able to "stomach" a fucking website on the internet? Get the fuck out of here.
>>
>>345957
>>345961
You are seriously one cringey fucker.
>>
>>345963
You're just confusing the expression with the message.

Let me put it another way. You're a piece of shit for not immediately being able to recognize how flawed a site like reddit is for discussions.

Even back when I was a forum baby before 4chan who never even thought about anonymous posting, the concept of non-linear popularity based conversations would have been something I'd stay the hell away from.

>>345974
Not the samefag
>>
>>345975
>Not the samefag
Sure.
>>
>>345975
Who says you have to use reddit for discussions?
>>
>>345987
Well that's personally my only complaint against the site.
If it weren't for those two things I mentioned (non-linear and popularity based) then I wouldn't mind reddit one bit.

So I guess there would be nothing wrong with just clicking the links and not commenting or reading comments, but I doubt there's many people who do that.
Reading discussions is still using it for discussions.
>>
>>345957
>upvote-based site steal what they call "best of 4chan"
I didn't know 4chan had upvotes.
>>
I hate it. I hate the way comment threading is done. I hate the broken, shitty site navigation. I hate how individual communities have their own css hacks making the whole experience inconsistent as hell. I hate how making an account and participating is easily 100x worse than simply lurking and consuming the content. I hate reddit gold and the people who keep buying that utterly useless piece of crap. I fucking hate /r/4chan.

That being said, "gb2leddit" is used by a lot of chuklefucks here whenever they come across an opinion they don't like. That's my only problem with it.

Defaults are picked by the admins, who are pro-corporate SJWs. So there's a lot of corporate censorship and a TON of SJW censorship. But outside the defaults it's a mixed bag, there are a decent number of subs that are well-run and the mods aren't constantly trying to push a narrative.

>>345688
> if they didn't keep coming in here with their retarded misconceptions on what this website is.
that is definitely a problem. I fucking hate the newfriends coming here acting like 4chan is just a place to shitpost and act like an idiot. A lot of them seem to have an attitude that reddit is for real conversations, and then 4chan is a place to come be retarded for fun right?
No, fuck off, 4chan is a great place for great discussions and newfriends shitposting for the sake of shitposting is shitty
>>
>>345532
surprisingly, the mods on lebbit are somehow more retarded than the ones here, i don't know how they can pull that one off.
>>

>>
>>345974

>>
Ruining the site.
Anyone that so much as goes there should be auto-banned on here somehow, I don't know how that'd work because I'm computer illiterate aside from the necessary shit like video games and torrenting anime, but I'm pretty sure I've witnessed something similar work on another site.
>>
>>345957
>What, do you really think we start to hate a random site for no reason?
No, you hate it because it's a convenient scapegoat and let's you blame an internal issue on someone else.
>>
>>347146
There might be some kind of reddit API that detects when you're logged into reddit, maybe for share buttons and what not. If so, auto-banning all of them should be immediately implemented.

I don't like its format, with popular opinions and dumb jokes being front and center. It feels like larger subreddits are just a popularity contest. I would see users get tons of upvotes just for having a silly username. The whole voting system fucks it. The reason I left.

Then I take it you haven't been to reddit since TwoX became a default? Feminist mods who unapologetically censor any remote criticism of their cult. /r/atheism might've been arrogant pricks but at least they didn't constantly censor everything, and at least they could more or less back up their stance with facts and reason. /r/TwoX is all about how being a woman is terrible and being a man is the greatest thing ever because men don't have any issues, and feminism is a perfect movement that has never done anything wrong.

People think Pao was the problem, like she was just an accident. The whole administration is SJW-heavy, they even have a former admin as the head of ShitRedditSays and pic-related is the admin they hired to replace Victoria.

Previous CEO thought she should get $160million just for being a woman. She banned salary negotiations because women are bad negotiators. She admitted that not only does she strongly consider race+gender when hiring, but she also only wanted to hire other people who had this mindset.

A former admin is the head of /r/ShitRedditSays, a subreddit that believes women never lie about rape or DV, men should be apologizing for their gender 24/7, and that anybody who even hints at men having issues or women having a single advantage is a horrible "shitlord". They strongly support censorship of anybody who disagrees with them, and often brigade, doxx, and harass people who hold different opinions than their own.

Mods of subs such as /r/OffMyChest and even /r/Rape have a bot that auto-bans anybody who makes a single comment in a number of subs that sometimes have opinions those mods disagree with. That's right, they don't think rape victims deserve support unless those victims have the exact same political and social views they do.

And as mentioned above, the admin they hired to replace Victoria is a very clear diversity hire black woman who is absolutely terrible at her job (people thought Bill Murray was drunk in his AMA), and uses words like "mansplaining" when criticized.

So yes, I'd say the reddit admins and many mods are "SJWs." The meaning of the word sometimes gets diluted but definitely not in this case.

Same here, wouldn't want to frequent it though because I don't like the voting system.
It's really not comparable to 4chan in my opinion. They're really different and I don't get why people would visit both places. If you prefer usernames you go to reddit, if you prefer anonymity you go here. That's it. Please stop fighting, we should all fuck each other instead.

I am a reddit user primarily but I love reddit McCarthyism. There is nothing better than accusing someone of being reddit or watching a reply get hit with a bunch of "hello reddit" responses.

I'm sure I have stupid reddit conceptions myself, but I was visiting here long before I ever knew what reddit was and I can't stand the notion /r/4chan has that the entire site is /b/ and everyone communicates with eachother by writing "fuck off faggot" even when it makes no sense. It's fairly easy to spot the /r/4chan people here.
>>
>>345532
Hate it is a strong word, but I consider it a very stupid concept. Self-segregation and web fame murder discussions, and that's what Reddit thrives on.
That said, due to the very large userbase it can be quite useful on very sterile subjects that don't arouse any kind of passion like tech support and shit.

The problem with reddit is the karma system. You make an opinion, it either gets really popular or it gets downvoted and never seen. Mods keep things in check and it's a bit of a hugbox with opinions.

On 4chan there is no karma system. You say something stupid, it will be around for everyone to see and call you a faggot. There is no "safe space" for your opinions so you best be ready to defend them.

Both are full of underage shitposters but reddit's generally more cancerous in that they repeat the same jokes ad nauseum and can only use the word "brilliant" as adjectives. Their constant fetishism of science and technology makes them delusional pseudointellectuals that pat each other on the back. People will UNIRONICALLY pay money to award someone "gold" just because some shitty meme comment made them chuckle.
>>
>>350801
Isn't /v/ itself reddit? My main board it /lit/ and '/v/edditor' is often thrown around as a generic term for shitposters
>>
It takes the concept of "Don't shoot the messenger" and amplifies it to a completely idiotic degree by treating the messenger better than the content creator by way of the upvote/downvote system.

Furthermore, that very same system wholeheartedly endorses mob rule and the process of constantly creating dummy accounts in order to inflate a post's score.
>>
>>351070
That's why people want /v/ to split so badly
>>
>>351441
Exactly why people hate Reddit and only an idiot wants that feature on here
>>
>>351008

4chan does the exact same thing.

Both websites are hugboxes in their own way, but I agree 4chan is far more tolerable.
>>
>>350735
Yeah he is a total laugh.
>>
It's not as much fun as 4chan, and it's harder to get attention on there, but people on there do generally give better advice. As well, they don't tend to irrationally hate things the way 4chan does. I think reddit would be much better if threads could be bumped, and if the post timers were made shorter.

That being said, I think both 4chan AND reddit are rather circlejerky.
>>
>>351008
>>351441
I support the idea of upvoting and downvoting on 4chan IF, and only IF, it's implemented in such a manner that doesn't affect the visibility of posts. High scoring comments shouldn't be emphasized over low scoring comments; the score should be something off to the side of each comment that people can willfully ignore.

Okay, let me see if I'm understanding the logic behind this.

Is it
>This person exhibits X behavior I don't like ---> They will be inclined to use a site like Reddit
Or
>Being on Reddit ----> Causes X behavior I don't like

I'm confused why people unironically are so sure why someone must be from Reddit. The logic doesn't really make sense from either angle, and I'm trying to understand the reasoning behind such rash generalizations. How can you be so sure the shitposters/people whose opinions or mannerisms you don't like are Redditors? Surely not everyone on Reddit is a clone. It doesn't make sense and seems to be an excuse not to explain why the other person is wrong.

>>
Reddit has a horrible user interface, and I refuse to make an account for that reason alone. However, sometimes specific subreddits come up on Google searches and I browse them. The gaming subreddits are REALLY helpful. It's really not as SJW as everyone makes it out to be.

4chan and some of Reddit's retarded subs cater to the same type of person (young, male, white, counter-culture, confirmation bias, general shittiness.) 1. Its up/downvoting system is heinous. I'll decide for myself what I want to read, thanks.

2. There's some shittiness inherent to not being anonymous (attention whores, circle-jerking; basically tripfags), but still, they're not nearly the epic meme-spewing plebs they're made out to be.

3. There's far, far more Redditors on 4chan (and vice versa!) than many people are willing to admit. It's absurd to assume they're two distinct groups.

Bottom line, it's pointless to "hate" the site, just don't visit the site and you'll be fine.
