I'm concerned about /news/ becoming a revenue stream for unscrupulous yellow journalists.

Thoughts?

Will there be standards for news content? Will blogs be accepted?

And then there is the question of celebrity/tabloid/gossip stuff. Is this going to be a TMZ friendly board?

Pageviews and click-throughs are more valuable than banner ads.
>>
Links that aren't pastebin/archive/etc shouldn't be allowed.
>>
Hopefully they let me post anime news.
>>
Yep, this seems like it could be a really bad idea.
>>
>>344387

This. Everyone shit post any thread without pastebin in the op to death.

Also you are begging pol to live on this board you better not botch when every news story is blamed on the joos.
>>
>>344387
>>344393
Exactly this.

I hope Hiro or mods flesh out the sticky and outline exactly what they have in mind by "news". Are we talking wirefeed/google news stuff? or is everybody's niche blog going to be allowed?
>>
>>344285
it's already fine on /v/, /tv/ and /pol/
>>
>>344285
Didn't happen last time.
>>
>>344439
That was in a different era before sites like twitter and reddit became what they are today.

I hope mods make hashtags link directly to twitter.
>>
>>344387
Good idea. Which one? archive.is?
>>
>>344285
Dailymail, telegraph, the guardian etc already do this shit on /pol/ with an incredibly recognizable formula

>most inflammatory sentence pulled from article
>link immediately after
>op doesn't stick around to discuss

and these threads almost always hit 200+ posts
>>
>>344451
you left out breitbart

That has nothing to do with what I said. Don't respond to me.

So you're saying you don't think the same things that will be submitted to /r/worldnews won't end up in this /news/ board ?
>>
>>344285
People could simply post an archive.today link along with the original.
That way if you don't wish to give views to a.page you have that option.
>>
>>344516
Maybe this should be mandatory.
>>
>>344288
The standards will be whoever pays him to shill their articles on the site. It's pretty obvious that he wants to turn 4chan into Reddit.
>>
>>344512
Attempting to curb a problem before it's even a problem is retarded kind of like comparing the problems of a site with 10 million users vs. the problems that a site that had less than 10k.
>>
>>344534
The clickbait spam is already noticable on /pol/. If steps can be taken to mitigate it before it flourishes on /news/ that would be great.

do you see how ridiculous this is?

Show me the clickbait and how self-moderation on /pol/ is at such an all time low that it isn't ignored.

I think it's pretty cool that the board hasn't even started and we're laying down all these ground rules.

Of course it is.

We already have shitty clickbait threads from shills and shitposters on a lot of boards already. Either keep /pol/ as it is or make /news/ with strict rules and moderation.
>>
>>344642
It's a problem on /v/ and /pol/ and what other boards?

All major internet news sources are clickbait.

That isn't necessarily true. Some news sources exist solely to rewrite other news sources headlines for more outrage and profit off of other people.

The only problem is there will people who will shit a brick if the article is from a site they don't like even if it's archived/pastebined.
>>
The biggest stories on /news/ will be the ones that get the most replies. The stories that get the most replies will be the ones that outrage /news/ the most. /news/ will be about trolling /news/ as hard as you can.
>>
>>344824
It happens on /g/ too.
>>
>>345009

This.

Hence why when I make threads I use the most inflammatory headline I can find. I don't link to the article and avoid any watermarks/logos of the site and then copy paste the most relevant info from the article.
>>
>>344285
I'd say maybe block people from posting articles from known clickbait sites like Gawker, Breitbart, etc.
>>
>>345013
>I don't link to the article
I think this is half of why people are complaining. They don't want to give these clickbait organizations any adsense revenue whatsoever.

Clickbait isn't always political like Breitbart and it isn't always SJW or tabloid related like Gawker or TMZ.

I'm more worried about tinfoilfags from sites like epochnews and vigilantcitizen and godlikeproductions and coasttocoastAM posting a bunch of paid-per-click tinfoil blog links and calling it "the REAL news".

I'm more worried about

Not familiar with breitbart, but dailymail threads aren't that common or much of a board problem.

>dailymail threads aren't that common
Are you kidding? There are at least 5 a day, every single day on /pol/. Sometime theer are 20. The vast majority of the time the OP never sticks around and they use the most inflammatory headline possible. It's clearly being done to outrage people enough into going there, but I can't say for sure I know the exact motivation behind it. Page views? Adsense? Sharing?
>>
>>344387
THIS
>>
>>344285
i will post satire sites to it because no one actually reads articles, only the headlines.
>>
>>344824
Sadly, it happens on /sci/ too, just not very often.
>>
>>345239
Then the problem is self-moderation, not the click bait
>>
>>344824
/tv/ has similar problems, with youtube movie reviewers trying to get people to like or spread their latest reviews. Some sites that get posted are made of nothing but rumors of upcoming projects and who is starring in what.

Then on top of all that there is the celebrity tabloid gossip stuff about dating and people living 'hollywood lifestyles'.
