We need a board to discuss news that's not /pol/. I refuse to browse that shithole
>>

>I refuse to browse that shithole
Guess you won't be discussing news on 4chan, then. Sucks to be you.
>>
>>342394
Is there any reason you won't browse /pol/?

Besides people who think shitposting is part of /pol/ culture. That you will find IRL. And people who think it is old /b/ with extra power.

Also, as a /pol/ack I think that we need extra moderation and enforce global rules.

Things are better since /pol/ocaust btw so it is possible a better /pol/.

>you have to go to a red board that specializes in racism in order to discuss a major international event on 4chan
>>
>>342411
>Is there any reason you won't browse /pol/?
Yes. The IDs are against the very spirit of 4chan and make for shitty boring discussion that may as well be on reddit or facebook. Meanwhile the flags generate a lot of shitposting and are completely unnecessary.
>>
>>342653
Why exactly is /pol/ a red board? Never made sense to me.
>>
>>342691
>The IDs are against the very spirit of 4chan
Yes, thank god someone else sees this too.
>>
>>342695
Politically incorrect themes are often not safe for work.
>>
>>342708
How so? I browsed it for a moment and the only offensive thing I saw was a picture of a guy sucking dick. I don't think anything would be lost from changing it to a blue board, other than some shitposters being unable to post gross stuff. The horror.
>>
>>342691
There is no fucking "spirit of 4chan", that may well be a dumber concept than "board culture." Maybe losing the flags would be wise, but IDs are good because people are too retarded to resist samefagging.
>>
>>342720
I guess if you're an office drone you wouldn't want an IT guy looking at your cubicle when a /pol/ post talking about jews and niggers is on the screen. You especially don't want happy merchants and swastikas in your browser cache.
>>
You can use /b/, if you want
>>
>>342394
just use reddit, huffington post, or tyt's comment section

You don't want 4chan on your history at work period, so I hope to the Judeo-Christian God that this is not the reason.

/pol/ was originally hands-off moderation, they even allowed you to post pornographic images.

Unfortunately that all changed.
>>
>>343018
So logically they actually should be made a blue board, it's just that they haven't, out of what I assume is either tradition or fear.
>>

>>
/int/ would fulfill that purpose if it wasn't 50% generals and 50% shitposting.

I personally use /b/ to discuss news events or krautchan when it is a very german event.
>>

Have you seen the reactions on reddit? Those people are much worse

Oh fuck off post-/pol/habour newfig

If you ever take a look at the "best of /pol/ screencaps" they always talk about the importance of anonymity with debates and discussions.

Just because you are stupid enough that you can't work out how to detect samefaggy, doesn't mean that everyone else needs to suffer.

Whilst this image is a slight exaggeration of the speedyness of discussion, it still is exact on point.
>>
>>343203
>actual debate
doesn't need IDs; isn't affected by samefagging

Do you go to no other board than /pol/ or something?
>>
>>343203
>But in /pol/ we respect actual debate.
Started laughing there.
>>
Already happening

>>>/news/
>>
>>343507

Oh why why why why
>>
>>343513
Probably comes from yesterdays Paris attack since hiro was in Paris at the time. Also /pol/ is all political news with no other kind of news.
Seems it will be only allowing news articles from the past 48 hours on it.
>>
>>343516

But /pol/ has always been happy to act as host for happenings.

This is only going to make /pol/ even more collectively shit as it drains more users away from it, much like how /his/ drew away quality history posters.
>>
>>343531
Well isn't /pol/ a containment board anyways? May as well salvage what is left of the good stuff even if it will still smell slightly like /pol/.
>>
>>343516
Seems pretty pointless to differentiate a political news board and a general news board.
>>
>>343507
holy shit what the fuck
>>>/news/1
>>
>>343507
Hiro was a mistake.
>>
>>343537

All boards except /b/ are technically containment.

If you leave cancer to fester with only cancer, you'll only get more cancer. At some level a board needs to have quality posters.

I don't think anyone wants an even more cancerous /pol/
>>
>>343543
Why? /pol/ will always favour political stories over other types meaning it is far more likely to be ignored. Having a board that is just for news allows a better spread.
>>
>>343550
Just go to Reddit or 8ch.
>>
>>343550
Modern news is inherently politicized, anon. There's basically no point trying to separate the two. Every news station in the world has a political slant, so creating two boards for the same exact thing is basically splitting hairs.
>>
>>343555
You could say that about any topic though.
>anime
got to /r/anime or gaia
>hentai
go to sad panda and pixiv
>porn
pornhub
>news
any news website
And so on.
>>
>>343550

So what stories will they cover hm?

Topics that aren't already covered by the boards? Well isn't that basically saying that you want to create a general board?
>>
If this is happening make sure all news links are automatically redirected to their respective archive.org link to prevent viraling
>>
4chan is an imageboard, not a news site.
>>
>>343564

But all of the boards cover exactly that stuff.

Don't you think that the boards should be able to report on their own topics?
>>
>>343557
>Every news station in the world has a political slant, so creating two boards for the same exact thing is basically splitting hairs.
I usually use the BBC for my news. Is mostly neutral, with maybe a slight left wing bias if forced to say it has a side.

>>343567
>general board
Did you read the rules of the board?
Only news articles from the past 48 hours are allowed.
>>
>>342394
WHAT DID YOU DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>
>>343564
You can post nature news on /an/, scientific news on /sci/, world news on /pol/, art news on /ic/ et cetera. What kind of unique news go on /news/ that don't belong to any existing boards, huh?
>>
>>343577

You missed my point.

This board will become a hive for those that don't have a board because they'll post news related to their topic.

They'll all be generals in everything but name.
>>
How exactly will this even work? How do you have a conversation about an event with ZERO mention of anything politics related?

>anon 1: Oh there was a terrorist attack in Paris today!
>anon 2: I wonder if that will trigger a stronger military respo-
>anon 1: THIS IS NEWS ONLY, NO POLITICS ALLOWED!!!

Meanwhile, what is supposed to happen in /pol/? Will threads about news stories now be banned?

This genuinely makes no sense.
>>
So now I can just make another epic /qa/ thread whining about /pol/ for the 1302402390341th time and get my own board? Sweet.

kill yourself hiro
>>
>>343576
I don't see why having a news board stops other boards having articles posted on them. Like how /m/ doesn't stop mecha anime being posted on /a/. Is just a place where all news articles can be posted and commented on without it quickly dropping off the board.
>>
>>342394

YOU STUPID FUCKING IDIOT. YOU JUST REVIVED SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD
>>
>>343584
>This board will become a hive for those that don't have a board because they'll post news related to their topic.
The impression of the way the rules of the board are going is the OP is meant to have a news article in it. I don't think they are going to allow things like /pol/ news general or /a/ news general and so on.
So each thread would be for a separate news article.
That is based on
>OP should be posted with news URL(s).
>>
>>343602

Yeah, this already sounds fucking stupid. I can't wait until /new/ is deleted AGAIN.

I just don't see any niche that this is filling.
>>
>>343602

But what's to stop the same group of tripfags & anons hopping from one loosely related news of their interest to the next? Nothing that's what.

This will easily turn into a circlejerk board.

Besides, /int/ already claims the general news that /pol/ doesn't suck up.

What'd you expect from a newfag businessman?
The guy doesn't understand 4chan, all the 'good' stuff he's done so far is just doing whatever the retards on /qa/ are screaming about and letting the mod team to do some of their own stuff.
I've been warning about him since day one. It's not a horrendous move or anything, but it demonstrates why he's unfit to be an active admin. That's not to mention that datamining incident that the mod-worshipping cargo cultists brushed away after the first week.
>>

>>
>>343614
what?
>>
>>343613
Depends on how it is being implemented. What I am hoping is that they make the thread auto delete after 48 hours or something. Then means they can't just settle into some comfy thread that sits up for ages that easily.
Also maybe with more janitors coming on they will actually be able to moderate the board and pick up on the circlejerks.
>>
>>343623

Give what's happening in /tv/ I have very, very little faith anything like that will be sustained.

Before we start creating new hellholes, can we clean up what we've got first?

Well hiro has slowly been moving through boards. So far he has been fixing stuff on /a/, /lit/, /sp/, /qa/, /trash/ and /his/ (after making them). He might get to /tv/ at some point.
