I'm starting to think /pol/ used to be /new/ for more reasons than one.

It was better when it was /new/. The alt-right ruined it with their reddit memes.

They're twitter memes, not reddit memes, and one cannot ruin what was shit to begin with.

Maybe I'm looking at this with rose-tinted glasses but when I was a /new/sman, I remember there being a lot more variety than /pol/. We had NatSocs, we had the Ron Paul crowd, we had socialists, AnCaps, AnSynds, communists and so on.

I was a NatSoc and I remember when we had a saying "If he doesn't name the Jew, his message ain't true." to describe people like Ron Paul and Alex Jones and the libertarians would always make fun of us for it, while we'd call their guy Ron "Paulberg" for being a capitalist Jew-enabler. It was an all round good time. Now the right-wing on /pol/ is so homogenized and boring. They can't take the banter these days. Everything is super serious to them. A bit like if they came from somewhere other than 4chan.

What kind of a fucking idiot namefags on /qa/ I really don't understand this

From my non-/new/ perspective, the Ron Paul worshippers and the rest of the crowd was a pain in the ass as well. You leaked your agendas and memes all over the place just like /pol/ does now, only the scale was smaller since the board was nowhere near as huge.
Politics boards were a mistake. People who want to discuss them 24/7 always have an activist mindset and can't keep their shit contained.

I moved to four-chon (spam filter won't let me type it with a 4) when /new/ got axed. I didn't partake in the leakage that prompted moot to create /pol/.

When moot created /pol/ and announced it across all boards including /b/, I knew that what he meant to do was contain /new/ culture and dilute it with /b/-tier newcomers. Fast forward to today, the range of newcomers has expanded to include Twitter, Reddit, YouTube and so on, because of all the press /pol/ gets across the mainstream internet.

This could have all been prevented if moot left /new/ alone to be the small and irrelevant board that it was.
