Three things happened:

The first two stories are unsubstantiated with no police reports or documentation. The thirds story is a case of racism being severely punished.
This caused the black student body president to go on a hunger strike to get the following demands met:
1. White president must handwrite a letter about his white privilege and read it as a speech
2. White president must resign afterward
3. Faculty must be 10% black
There are more ridiculous demands.
All of this is based on here say and the illusion of racism.
In reality, the student body president of the school is black despite a tiny black student body population, and he comes from a super rich railroad family. Yet, he claims to be oppressed so much he goes on strike.

There's been a few instances of a few racist students calling blacks niggers on campus. Then, some troll drew a swastika with shit on a wall somewhere on the university.And a wealthy black student felt personally offended and went on a hunger strike, drinking only water. He got the support and solidarity of the entire Mizzou football team, threatening to never play again until "justice" is served (basically holding the football program hostage).
With the momentum, They then got organized and demanded the President to resign, claiming he didn't so ENOUGH to curb on-campus racism. They also came up with their own list of demands.
The President later caved in and resigned along with the chancellor (i think), claiming "full responsibility" even though he didn't do anything wrong and the university tried their best to deal with cases of racial hostility.
Now the media has picked it up and blacks across the US are unifying in solidarity online.

I was once involved with movements that fought real, institutional racism and sexism. If you're curious what real racism and sexism look like, picture a good old boy sheriff locking up black people in Arizona for as long as he can and using the law to fight off attempts to get people out of indefinite detention. That's what actual racism looks like.
A couple years back, we began receiving new members who would immediately accuse me and other white people of being part of that same type of institutional racism. Nevermind that I donated a couple years of my life and a significant amount of my own cash in order to help fight real institutional racism. I've paid out of my own pocket for legal representation. I've reached out to law enforcement watchdog groups at many levels and relentlessly pursued corrective action for real institutional racism.
Then the SJW movement came. "Anon, you're racist. White people are racist. All white people benefit from racism and slavery. You're racist, that's racist, everything is racist. White people are satan."
I gave up last year. I no longer volunteer my time and money to fighting actual racism. Most of the white liberal males that I know are doing the same. That white college guy screaming about SJW things on social media does not undertake any actions which have any real world impact on fighting real racism. They're basically clowns that entertain the world with their stupidity.
The SJW movement has set back legitimate efforts to eradicate institutional racism and sexism. They don't realize it, but they are slowly causing the average American to side with the racists and sexists.

From what I've read about the Missouri circus:

2. there was an alleged racist display but there is no evidence linking it to any one student or group of students
3. people got angry because they can't punish the person(s) who created the poop swastika since there is no evidence linking anyone to it
4. people got angry because the university president wouldn't "talk to" a group of 10+ angry students who were visibly about to kick his ass
