Why does /pol/ hate anything that isn't STEM?
Is it just a meme? Or are really all of you studying CompSci and the likes?

I study history + English which is considered shit tier by you guys. I tried computer science before this and it was literally full of autists and I didn't enjoy it at all. Now I love what I do and I'll be earning decent cash, so what is the problem?
Also, do you guys really think there is no need for people that teach kids about history or the English language?

Don't listen to these idiots. Do what you love. A lot of people on /pol/ never even went to college and can't examine the content taught in basic non STEM introductory classes from an objective viewpoint. And if they did, they were most likely too stupid to graduate and dropped out to "hurr pick muh trade!!!" Most people here believe in racial science, refuse to believe the fact that the environment and socioeconomic class a person is born into can shape them and some even believe the Earth is flat or evolution isn't real for fucks sake.

I'm 27 and I study psychology (have a masters in clinical psych) and I am working on a PhD now. I make good money, especially at my age, have no debt, and love what I do.

The ironic thing is that most of my friend's who majored in STEM (engineering, biology and comp sci) are all unemployed.

tl;dr don't listen to autists. Do what you love (unless it's women's studies, fuck you).

>Why does /pol/ hate anything that isn't STEM?

Because there are majors in school that are completely worthless for receiving a job after graduation. They only exist for the purposes of greater education aka to make the school $$$. Pretty much all of liberal arts is this way, as well as some of the majors in other departments.

You hear all the time about students that went into debt picking these bullshit majors because they are easy and then being unable to pay the debt after graduation.

What makes STEM good is that it is the most demanded group of majors by companies. If you look at job requirements, many many good entry level positions will ask for a technical degree (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Also the salary goes up above 6 figures, so you can pay off student debt if you accumulated it.

Now, if you have money and time to blow on school and want to do what you love that isn't boring as shit, then sure, go be a starving social worker or musician. If you want to be hired, then STEM and medicine are good choices. Business is ok, but unlike stem there are many more people getting BBAs then positions for them, and many of the degrees are crap. Law and architecture are crap right now.

Don't pick it. However, no matter what you pick, work will suck. That is just the nature of things. It is not supposed to be fun, or enjoyable, and if it is for a lot of people then you are not going to get paid much for it.

>Also generally speaking, people in STEM fields are quite ignorant of the outside world and only knowledgeable of their specific field

Same with every other degree. If you believe getting a philosophy degree will give you a better understanding of the world than say, a logical STEM degree then you are wrong. That is just the universitys bs line to get students who would normally drop out to take the easy $$$ making courses (for the university).

It's kind of what you make of it honestly. I greatly appreciate how mathematics is involved on a daily basis. I got a minor in Mathematics and it seems to help in creating physics engines in my spare time.

NEETS who can't comprehend simple chemistry come on and call everything they don't like degenerate whilst leeching off the system they claim to hate so much.

m8, i know engineers and some don't even know basic world history or current events. For a person like me, i just cant stand being that ignorant of the things around me. Kind of wish i could live in a pre industrial society and just plow a field and fuck my waifu and go to war

This is a well known fact.
The more intelligent person is, generally, the lack of common sense is more prevalent.

That's why a lot of very, like super, intelligent people are raging autists. They are way too intelligent for normal social interaction.

Most of you guys don't have to worry most STEM majors are pretty anti social and awkward. However then you have some amazing bastards that can speak, explain, and are generally well rounded. Basically the STEM Chad and these people will make you hate your life. Most STEM Chad's go on to become doctors since they have the ability to do so.
>>
>>55307780
So basically, what you are saying is that there are negative stereotypes associated with STEM personalities, as there are with every other profession, and if you have a STEM degree and don't have the negative traits you are a god because you have a STEM degree

While I'm absolutely not butthurt, I do have a problem with the so-called "redpilled" anons who consider fields such as agriculture useless, when, in fact, they are equally important to the economy to top-tier fields such as engineering.

I also think that, to an extent, people should do whatever the fuck they want, as they'll probably still be more successful in their lives than the anons who can't do anything else than obnoxiously shitting on career choices, while all they do is sit in front of a computer screen all day.

Anything that gets you a job at the end of it is fine. Even something like philosophy, though for that you will need to be the next Aristotle to actually be successful. Most that do that kind of subject are burnout wasters looking to get drunk and fuck about for a few years. They come out of it unemployed/in some dead end job and in huge debt.
>>
>>55308123
I don't think anyone here considers agriculture useless. My degree was related to it (though more the laboratory side of it than actually going out and raising crops and livestock).

I will say though, that while agriculture itself is worthwhile, the farmboys I was with who did study actual agriculture were a load of fucktards for the most part. Thought they knew it all already and couldn't give a fuck about the course.

What you kids don't realize is that the majority of people work in fields unrelated to their degrees. Most companies just need smart and capable people, because their business is one you can't study for. And most businesses know that even if people have related degrees they can still be retarded.
>>
>>55308476
I understand this, but if a company (any company, degree related or not) is looking for capable people and has two CVs in front of them, one from a hard and intensive subject like physics and the other from something like music, then it's not hard to anticipate which they will choose to hire.
>>
IF you are a left brained and where in the top 10% percent of your school in Math you do STEM in university. If you are right brained and artistically inclined , have talent you do visual arts, If you are good at writing and abstract thinking top 10% in your school for English and Hiistory you go for Liberal Arts. IF you're average you should consider the debts and return on investment tho.
>>
>>55308304
My comments are based on the OP's chart. Agriculture didn't even make it.

Then again, I'm also concerned by artistic fields being so low rated. We need art. See this. >>55305866

Art has always been an important part of European culture and has definitely played a major role in the French revolution. I can't stand seeing artistic fields being disregarded as "low-tier" by ignorant anons. Sure, modern art is shit but constantly complaning about it won't do much about the whole ordeal. I think that we need more talented artists to enroll in artistic fields and change the tide. What do you think?
>>
>>55308649

That would honestly depend on the job tho. A physics major applying for a job that requires the use of research methods, statistics and social skills would not be the best option as opposed to someone who has a political science.

this, within reason. most of the autists who do compsci will end up being nothing more than a dime-a-dozen codemonkey and will never get more than a slightly above average wage. the tiny minority who aren't lying who pipe up in these threads are just that - a minority. most people who go to college aren't smart enough and don't have the motivation to do well in a subject they aren't interested in. i'm lucky in that i have both of those things and graduated with a 1st in ChemE despite hating the course, but most people won't be able to do it. if you go into a course for the employment prospects instead of doing something you genuinely enjoy, it probably won't end well. you'll have no social life and it's unlikely you'll graduate with a good degree standard.
>>
>>55304088
This guy's right. With all the political agenda, personal views and incomplete information that went into recording history it's safe to say that at least half of what you think happened is just your imagination of it.

But it makes for a fun story sometimes.

I dunno why Astronomy is god tier. I can distinguish the waning gibbous and waxing crescent phases and understand Newtonian laws of motion and Gravity and can measure shit in AU. Big fucking use that is IRL.
Buisness studies is worse than economics and is the same as English and Philospohy at this point. The most over-saturated degree in the world which is taken by noticably average people. It doesn't even teach you how to do buisness. It teaches you how to be a manager wageslave and you don't need a degree for that.
>>
>>55308779
>Agriculture didn't make it

To be fair it's not a university subject most think about, so it's likely an oversight rather than saying it's worthless.

>We need artists etc
We do, but nowhere near as many as our education system is currently churning out. This is the issue with "follow your dreams". It's wooly thinking nonsense that has the real world smash into it like a freight train. Too many finding out the hard way that their half-arsed choice of subject was a waste of their and everyone else's time.

There are too many people going to university in general, but it is particularly acute in the "shit teir" subjects. Philosophy and music aren't shit in and of themselves, but are a shit subject to study at university because our society simply doesn't have the space in it to fit that many artists and philosophers and have them get paid for it.

>>55308129
Yeah i heard this is true as well.

Apparently, if you have natural artistic talent you will have found out how to do art the hard way at a young age and have developed an approach that is your own style.

If you dont have artistic style, then you can take the easy route and go to school and learn an overdone style.

People with extreme artistic talent are discouraged from going to art school for fear that it would alter their style to something more generic.

To be honest, teachers should range from top tier to god tier. Only because they are usually the most influential people in your life, next to family and celebrities/ intellectuals.

The only thing that makes it drop to shit tier are really bad teachers/professors that have a shit teaching style, never really made you want to learn, or were just horrible in general.
