What does /pol/ think about Unions in the workplace?
>>
They were a good idea once upon a time, now all they do is make it a requirement to enter some jobs (and you have to pay fees too), and they needlessly slow down work to increase how much the employer has to pay.
>>
I have mixed feelings.

Personally I am a national libertarian economically however I've been flirting with national syndicalism and fascist corporatism.

Basically I feel like a guild system where cheap bad easy education and group connections can be formed and worker's conjoint will can be molded would be very useful. But as is labour unions are very inefficient.

One idea I have is making corporate syndicates/state-ran unions and putting nationalist libertarians at the head of every such Union/corporate syndicate. This plus two constitutions, one restricting the government from abusing the syndicates and stopping crony capitalism. And another to stop the unions from tying the hand's of the rich behind their backs and neutering the country.

only way to keep wages mobile without government intervention.

They seem to fuck everything up for themselves after a certain point. Unions always push for more of everything for workers, but the workers don't magically produce more gain for the employer, so after a point everything goes to shit. Obviously they have a function in providing bargaining power to employees, but more powerful unions either end up driving their industry away or becoming leeches on the workers. At least here, I know there are some places where unions are given mandatory dues directly out of every worker's paycheck, regardless of whether that person is a member or not.

united we stand, divided we fall

Honestly I think the reason why the workers don't work harder after earning their due, is because they feel they always deserved that amount and as such should put in no extra value into the job of choice.

this is why I like collectivist capitalism and class collaboration.

When the classes collaborate, the workers actually work harder for their benefits.

They actually try to think about "well maybe this will hurt my fellow worker or the business owner therefore all of us"

I hate them. It makes me pay dues for things I don't want. Be me working for slave(safe)way
>Two black union reps walking into break room when. I'm on lunch.
>You guys sign this petition to raise minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour?
>They then precede to walk around the break room and shove a clip broad under every ones face.
>Umm no thanks.
>Why?
>Because I don't want inflation.
>BUT MUH LIVING WAGE!!!!
Fucking pissed me off that they'd come into the BREAK room and try this shit I mean we don't even let other non union people collect signatures out side are doors. I'd be ok with Unions if they were truly voluntary and not so socialistic. Till then fuck em.

Thank you for condensing my own views in your post.

They allow workers to be lazy and inadequate yet still get paid the same as their coworkers. They destroyed competition in the workplace so much that it destroyed the economy and other countries are taking over.

socialist scum

I work at an airport loading planes for a shipping company. The pilots for the company that provides us with the vast majority of the planes we load have decided to go on strike in less than 30 days unless their contracts are renegotiated so they're comparable to those of Fedex or UPS. What this means for me, and most other employees who aren't pilots, is I'll be laid off if the company doesn't meet the pilots' demands. I need this job to avoid having to get Healthcare through the Marketplace (the cheapest plans on the Marketplace are double the cost of my current plan) and in order to return to school in the fall, as the only way I'm able to afford to attend consistently is through my company's tuition reimbursement program. (I don't go to an expensive school, by the way. I'm currently attending community college to avoid student loan debt. I thought I was being smart by getting a job that offers tuition reimbursement benefits.) My future is at the mercy of those pilots' who, for whatever reason, decided that instead of looking for work somewhere that would offer them a better contract, they would hold every employee who isn't a part of their union hostage in order to get what they want.

So to answer your question: no, I don't care for unions.

Why should I compete in a dead end job though? I see a job as a trade. My service and time for their money. I work my hours, not more or less. I do what they ask, not more or less. I don't want to be forced to work more because of the fear of getting fired and losing my home.

It's not a privilege to work for someone. It's a trade.

Employers can abuse power

Unions can abuse power

Power is usually best balanced and negotiated

I don't want to survive i wanna liiiiiive
>>
>>71802646
Yeah but the trouble is there are many lazy fuckers who should be fired. We had a guy who stocked shelf's decide to take a nap on the job by building himself a bed from coke boxes he wasn't fired because of the union.

Also
>Implying 15 dollar minimum wage is a fair trade.
>>
>>71800306
Depends on the workplace

>teachers
fuck yes. one of the most important jobs when you think about it

>factories
No. The Unions have run their course and are no longer necessary. Any further action by them is destructive
>>
>>71802937
Aren't you over exaggerating a bit? That seems like perfectly good reason to fire someone, even if he was in a Union. Just because you are in a Union doesn't mean you are completely immune to being fired. Being in a Union just means that your boss can't demand to you more than what is agreed for you to do.

However, if you do less, then yes you could be and should be fired.
>>
>>71803328
No I being completely serious, his excuse was he had work an early shift the night before and was tired, he got off on a warning and then quite a year latter.

Look at how the unions of Detroit ruined the car industry. They are by and large greedy and end up hurting the people they are representing.
>>
>>71801778

At the same time they can protect workers there.

Take the vidya industry, companies like Bethesda utilize complex contracts designed to bankrupt the company and force them to sell. They could really use a union to prevent such jewery.
>>
>>71803697
Exactly, he got off with a warning. Usually it's a three strike deal in a job. And obviously, as you said, he wanted to quit the job. So he didn't care if he got fired, he was going to leave anyway. People do these stuff when they don't want to work anymore. So this has really nothing to do with Unions.

So the next time he is looking for a job and the employer asks him what he was doing before, what is he going to say? He can't say that he used to work at a place where he slept on the job and if he says nothing he just looks bad.

I can bargain for myself and am not a shit eating faggot who sits on my ass chatting at work so 7/8 times i've asked for a raise i've gotten one.

I think to fix unions you basically have to make them quick to form and quick to dissolve. Problem arises, Union forms, Problem gets mediated, Problem gets solved, Union dissolves. When you get long standing unions, it's basically just organized crime. I've been kicked off worksites before because i didn't want to sign up to a union, my parents have been forced into unions and for their trouble had their stores shut down / hours cut back / pushed from Full time to Part time / Casual.

It's a double edged sword for everyone but the union fatcat kikes that reap the membership money.
