Talk of reproachment has already begun.
Turkey has ceased supplies to the Syrian rebels, closed the border and arrested the general responsible for overseeing that action.

Watch for the arrests of the FSA leaders in Turkey.
Watch Erdogan's meeting in Moscow in the first week of August. Assad or his foreign minister will be there. There will be a 3-way meeting between Turkey, Syria and Russia.
The turning point in the conflict has already been reached.
The end is in sight.

In a month you will be spamming mindlessly about how great the Turkey-Syrian joint operation against terrorists is.

Sweet sweet rebel tears.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jul/17/rebels-fear-assad-victory-in-syria-as-noose-tightens-around-aleppo

The move has created despair among the ranks of the Syrian opposition, which insists that a pact between Moscow and Washington will entrench the Syrian leader, whom Russia and Iran have saved from defeat over the past 12 months. Adding to the alarm of the now diminished rebel ranks is a detente, also signed during the week, between Moscow and Ankara, after a seven-month standoff, as well as the Turkish prime minister’s remarks that Ankara was interested in peace with Damascus.

“This all means that Assad is no longer at risk,” said a senior official in the western-backed Syrian opposition. “This means that he has won.”

“I’m sitting here in a ruined house in eastern Aleppo,” said Abu Sobhi Jumail, a Syrian opposition fighter who has fought across northern Syria for the past five years. “I have the Russians in the skies, the Syrian air force too, when its planes can fly. I have Isis to my east, Hezbollah to my north and al-Qaida [Jabhat al-Nusra] in between. They abandon us, and tell us to rely on God, and then condemn us when we are forced to seek help [from al-Nusra]. Without them we would all have been killed a year ago. That is not politics. That is life and death.”

“We are doomed in Aleppo,” said Suleiman Aboud, who fled with his family from the rebel east of the city in February. “The next phase of this will be revenge. No one has paid a price for all these abuses. That is what hugging Assad does. This revolution was noble. It may not have been fully democratic, but people are allowed to fight oppression. We have the same rights to safety and freedom as you.”

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/u-s-doctor-300-000-face-death-or-starvation-aleppo-n609151

An American doctor treating the horrific injuries suffered by Syrian civilians has warned that the closure of a vital highway has put 300,000 people at risk of death and starvation.

Dr. Samer Attar, a Chicago-based orthopedic surgeon who volunteered to help local medics in the embattled city of Aleppo, said last weekend's severing of the Castello Road has already caused shortages of food and medicine.

"People are running out of fresh fruit and meat. Hospitals and their staff are exhausted," he told NBC News from southeastern Turkey, where he returned after a two-week stint in a makeshift underground hospital.

The entire city "is going to be bombed and starved to death … unless the international community acts," he said.

The situation now is much worse," Attar said. "The Castello Road was permanently cut due to heavy Syrian government aerial bombardment and ground sniper fire. Before, it had been risky, but now it is impassable ... a death sentence."

He said government forces "shot and bombed anything that moved on the road," describing Aleppo as "besieged."

Attar said: "No-one allowed in or out — no fuel, no medicines, no food."

"On a daily basis, sometimes twice daily, I witnessed civilians horrifically and brutally injured from rockets, barrel bombs, and cluster bombs," Attar said. "Homes, schools, and markets were hit. You would hear about dozens killed, scores more injured. It's devastating and overwhelming to witness."

Chicago-based Dr. Samer Attar has made multiple trips to Syria. Samer Attar / SAMS

Field Report: Syrian Army makes fresh gains in Darayya

>Fierce battles re-erupted in the beleaguered town of Darayya as government troops pushe deeper into the rebel-held bastion located nearly 10 km to the southwest of the Syrian capital.

>For the first time in three years, the Army’ fighter jets pounded, this early morning, rebels’ fortifications, making it even harder for the local fighters to hold their positions with intensified artillery barrage and massive ground invasion.

>According to a military source, Army troops managed to recapture a number of blocks; infiltrating some 300 meters inside the long-time rebel stronghold.

>The weeks-long military campaign to retake the rebel enclave has enabled the Syrian Army to tighten the siege already imposed on the town, widen the area separating Darayya from Muadamiyah to the west – currently held under a reconciliation deal.

>Pro-rebel activists have raised the alarm that the fall of Darayya to government troops might jeopardize the whole battlegrounds in the Western Ghouta region, urging the armed factions in Daraa and Eastern Ghouta to prevent the setback.

it is funny, in a way
the story goes like this:
> Patriot is a meh-tier SAM, but no one cares because muh F-16
> Gulf War I is on
> muh air superiority
> apparently TBMs exist, and planes can't shoot them down, who knew?
> Israel makes it clear to the US that they will nuke Iraq if Scud bombings continue
> ohnoes
> Patriot pressed into service as anti-TBM
> this is done by removing warhead and embiggening seeker head
> range goes up, terminal intercept distance goes up, but now kill radius is zero, missile is hit-to-kill
> missile kinematics still shit, but nothing to be done about that, not on short notice
> over a hundred fired, two successful intercepts against Scud
> i'm making a note here, huge success
> fast forward howeverthefuck many years
> missile optimized to kill TBMs now shit in anti-air role
who could have predicted this?

They are all idiots. I have said the only thing changing is that Turkey is going to stop supporting ISIS now. This is because of the terrorist attacks ISIS has committed on Turkish ground. The Istanbul airport attack was basically the last straw for the Turkish government.
As much as they hate the Kurds and the PKK, they are easier to stop and fight than ISIS is. Besides ISIS is already a losing faction so it'll be good in the world's eye.

The big thing is what Turkey is going to do to stop the Kurds in Syria from expanding at the expense of ISIS. That is the million dollar question.

It's not so much that the Russian air power was weak. It is that Russia still remembers the lessons from WW2. Which is that an integrated air defence system is needed. And since Russian strategy calls for a mobile offensive war, since offense is the best defence, they invested a lot into making mobile air defence systems.

The Western powers enjoyed aerial superiority through just aircraft alone by the end of WW2. So this is the strategy it focused on for the most part. Very little was invested in mobile air defence assets with NATO forces, especially the US. Attempts were made but they were such expensive assets and never used that they just scrapped them and ignored them in favour of more ground combat units. All in the hope the air force could win and hold. And fighting third world countries helped cement this doctrine.

Note that post Vietnam War, there is basically no more acquisition of air defence assets for the most part. Everything starts getting aimed towards anti-ballistic missile shit.

Stupid question, but why would a westerner support Assad over the rebels? What would we the consequences for the rebels winning vs those of Assad winning?
>>
>>81475745
Castello Road has been effectively blocked for a while now. A lot of rebel supply vehicles have been destroyed by the SAA shooting it from Mallah Farms and such. This siege can go on for years like other Jihadi pockets.
>>
>>81476410
Many reasons, the rebels are mostly salafists/wahhabists, similar to al Nusra or ISIS. If rebels win they will install an state with Sharia law and will genocide minorities. You can expect at least 4 million more refugees to pour into Europe if that happens.

Drones are small. The missiles are not designed to go after targets of that size.
Curious if the A2A missile used was a Sidewinder or not. Would have guessed that may have had a better chance of success honestly.

Iran doesn't have the abilities to replicate the RQ-170 even though they have a real copy.

Saudi PAC-3s have also failed to intercept OTR-21 ballistic missiles from the Houthis multiple times now.

The only countries with aircraft that have capabilities to defeat Patriots are only Russia and America. It could have been some advanced US UCAV or advanced fighter like F-22 (which no longer flies missions over Syria out of fear for Russian aircraft finding them) or even it could have been a Russian Su-35S or Su-34 with L-175V EW pods.

But the Leo 2 may have taken its first combat losses in a failed coup in Turkey thanks to regime fighters bombing them.

Good to know, and that website looks pretty fly.

Is the general basically an Assad hugbox or are rebel supporters tolerated?

I don't really follow this conflict - I'm more interested in how the internet handles war. Imagine if the US went to war with Russia for example. You could talk directly with the enemy.

Obviously that's not the case here, but I still find this kind of stuff interesting.

If you are thinking of the Lawrance of Arabia myth, I'm pretty sure it has been debunked as just that, a myth. Or rather, a lie made up by Lawrance to smear the Turks and a result of his own sexual frustrations.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like Erdogan or his followers as they are creating Islamic State 2.0, but it's just this little myth about male rape I think is exaggerated.

>rebel supporters tolerated
Not really

Mostly because no sane western people still supports rebels after 2011, when they became great buddies with al-Qaeda, and lately al-Qaeda is the main driving force of the war.

People who know this and still support the rebels are obviously some sort of weird western Islam-convert or troll. Supporting a secular non-extremist leader like Assad makes more sense for a westerner tbqh

Or just disliking every party in the conflict, that makes sense too. Or being impartial.
