Honestly though, this could really help Japan as a nation. Strong nationalism is likely the only thing that can save the island nation from its current demographic death spiral. Their population is aging so fast that they need to get heavy handed about fixing the baby drought. I don't think that this will result in an ascendant Japan in the near term: they simply don't have enough young men to be all that aggressive. It will take a generation or two for those types of conditions to emerge, assuming that this shift in policy results in meaningful changes to Japanese lifestyles.
