>The UK government has explicitly confirmed that a surveillance bill now making its way through the second chamber could be used to require a company to remove encryption. And even, in some circumstances, to force a comms service provider not to use end-to-end encryption to secure a future service they are developing. The details were revealed during debate of the Investigatory Powers Bill at a committee session in the House of Lords this week.
https://archive.is/PCLof

Here's another article:
>During a committee stage debate in the UK's House of Lords yesterday, the government revealed that the Investigatory Powers Bill will provide any Secretary of State with the ability to force communication service providers (CSPs) to remove or disable end-to-end encryption.

>Earl Howe, a minister of state for defence and deputy leader in the House of Lords, gave the first explicit admission that the new legislation would provide the British government with the ability to force CSPs to “develop and maintain a technical capability to remove encryption that has been applied to communications or data.”

Nicola Sturgeon has never faced political manoeuvring in her life, she's had an easy ride to the top of Scottish politics, which is like playing snakes and ladders with disabled children

I don't know what or how but May will pull a blinder on her and make her look petulant and weak if she decides to refuse the offer. By tacitly involving Sturgeon at different stages of the negotiation May will come off better because she was being proactive with trying to involve the scottish government and can turn around and ask why Sturgeon never brought up her concerns at the many meetings they're likely to have.

I think the Scots are going to feel an SNP fatigue pretty soon too, they've been in power in Scotland longer than the conservative govt, since 2007. Yes, I know there are plenty of butthurt Yes voters to keep their ballot boxes full but there's only so much time can pass until the pendulum swings back. May also comes across a hundred times better than Cameron, she doesn't have the posh english boy vibe that I know pisses people off

Oh, and don't forget that the man now in charge of international trade is A SCOT.

Nice trips but May is saying that she will not start Article 50 until a UK-wide approach and one that is favourable for the UK.

As you can see by this wording; she is hoping to put forward an argument of "I can give Brexit but we will lose Scotland!" to try and stave off Brexit.

Obviously and hopefully this backfires with Brexit happening and Scotland going. Scotland will turn into a 'Battle of two Unions" with Scotland being given the choice of only one.

>>81370490
I believe there is a high chance but she is playing her hand and keeping an eye out. Her disadvantage is that she has the EU, Leavers and Scotland all hitting away at her which will make your situation worse over time.

Goddamn ed milliband is so motherfucking ugly, I don't know how anyone can stand to look at the TV with him on it. He is like a caricature from wartime propaganda, just absolutely disgusting.

I mean UK politicians (and people) aren't exactly handsome, or even average, but they at least look like normal human beings, not some weird puppet or a worm wearing a human disguise.

I once saw a gif of Ed Milliband eating a sandwich, I nearly threw up. It was worse than watching 1 guy 1 jar, which I can at least wrap my head around. Ed Milliband eating a sandwich was like watching a car crash, but when the impact happens, each car just explodes with a tidal wave of blood.

What the fuck is up with his hair? Is there no one around him to say "Hey, why don't we go down to the homeless shelter and get this fucked up wad of shit you call a hairstyle sorted out? Ok Ed, you ugly fuck?" Jesus christ.

Also, is he not British? I want to say he looks like he's from Spain, but he looks more like he was born in an underground cavern of mole-people. Every inch of his skin is like the extra dark reddish skin of a baby's penis.

Holy fuck someone give that guy an Elephant Man mask or something so I can look at him without turning to shit-scented stone. God fucking damn. His face looks like one of those prosthetic faces attached to sunglasses they give massive head wound victims. Motherfucker literally looks like a bear ate his goddamn face, and that is what the NHS could cobble together for him out of novelty rubber ears and breast implants.

Ed Milliband, Jesus fucking Christ.

The remainians will harp on about the evils of British colonialism, all of the things we should feel guilty for, and how the idea of nationality is antequated - until you accuse them of despising their country, at which point they do a complete about face and insist that they are patriots. No, what I'm trying to get that is that she wants approval as in the negotiators agree on what the Brexit deal is (all parts of the UK meet except Northern Ireland and agree on what deal they want).

Since Scotland voted a vast remain, they will very likely rage greatly at being taken out of the EU as it was in a major point in the first referendum vote.

Sorry for shit-wording, I'm commenting in multiple threads so I'm typing it out quickly.

>>81372253
She was a remain voter so she could secretly be drawing it out so people calm down and forget about it if a Brexit is cancelled. May will likely put firward arguments like "The UK will break up!" or "The UK has worked together and achieved a new EU deal!"

If she did it, it would be insane but we live in insane times. I believe she is worried of upsetting Scotland as they will like they are being forgotten about again (they should try being Northern Ireland).

Crisis meeting to save the FTA with Britain

The UK is an important trading partner for Sweden and the Stockholm stock exchange opened on Monday showed the course as a reaction to the weekend's dramatic events.
On Monday afternoon sitting government representatives in crisis meeting with heavy industry tops of the turbulence that emerged in the market.

- We informed about the situation looks like, how the process within the EU is and what to expect at the upcoming EU summit.
But we were also quite open about that much is clear. For us it was important to receive the shot from the business world, says Ann Linde (S), EU and Trade.

The businesses primarily care about is in accordance with both Ann Linde and Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson a trade agreement that allows for continued good business with the UK.

- It is important that we can have this kind of dialogue so that we can stand together on what is important for Sweden, says Magdalena Andersson.

Skanska was among the companies that participated in the meeting.
The company's press officer Edvard Lind tone, however, the risks of Britain leaving the EU.

- It is not that we need to throw us over and take mass action.
There will be no immediate impact on us as a company, moreover, it is very unclear what will happen, he said.

Dont understimare the Scots. Your right that Strurgeon has had an easy ride at Holyrood, but your mistake is to image that she works in isolation.

Behind Sturgeon stands Salmond; a man whose political opponents recognise as a smart strategist, ad who has won innumerable political awards for Machiavellian maouverings.

He will keep Sturgeon right, and will be aiming for their shared objective of justification for a referendum.

The circumstances have changed though. Davidson and other Nos had the EU has a major campaigning point as leaving the UK to rejoin the EU was a stupid plan. Now that this convinced some people to vote no but they got taken out of the EU regardless is going to annoy many Scottish people. Also the SNP has in their election campaigning that voting for them would mean a possible second indy if Brexit happened; people still voted for them despite this.

This has to be looked at as ignoring Scots will just sent more into SNP hands.

I dunno, I watched how determined May went into the meeting with Sturgeon, and how mellow she got out of it.
Her tone was also less self-assured. I had the impression she was met with obstinate rejection on all her proposals. Which is what, most likely, happened. The Scots seem to be really pissed about having to leave the EU, just because a bunch of chavs and old English farts hate migrants. They stand to lose too much from leaving the EU and those money aren't going to come from Westminster.

Same for Nothern Ireland, except that Unionism is probably still too strong there for a referendum to change the status-quo.

Scotland, on the other hand, won't just let it go. I think they realised Brits cucked themselves by voting to leave the EU and they don't want to share that same fate of becoming a small country in a less significant kingdom-island.

They'd rather be a small country in a bigger union, from which they can draw some money.

Their prospects are a thousand times worse since the last ref.

They aren't even able to support themselves financially if they left.

They don't meet EU thresholds for membership.

They've been told they can't carry over our membership which means free movement and shengen.

They also would have to take the Euro and would in short order end up like greece.

Most scottish fucking know this. They just hold the threat of referendum on independence to get more power from westminster. But they'll never fucking leave because the dumb fucking leeches know what side their bread is buttered on.

It's like saying 'look, I want to start Brext asap, but the Scots are just fucking around with their inane demands, preventing us from doing the right thing and triggering article 50'. She's trying to put pressure on Scotland to give in to some compromises fast, otherwise May will blame Sturgeon her unwillingness to compromise is keeping the whole country in a deadlock.

>NOICE ARTICLE FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES INCOMING

Britain is “scoping” free trade deals with 12 countries in time to leave the EU on January 1, 2019.

Australia yesterday offered to strike a deal with the UK “as soon as possible” when Theresa May spoke to Malcolm Turnbull, her counterpart in Canberra. The prime minister said the offer was proof she could “make Brexit work for Britain”.

Liam Fox, the international trade secretary, also revealed that he had opened “very fruitful” negotiations with Canada on Friday.

He will fly to the United States next week to ensure Britain is not at the “back of the queue”, as President Barack Obama had threatened it would be during the referendum campaign.

Fox said he was “scoping about a dozen free-trade deals outside the EU to be ready for when we leave” — some with countries that have indicated they want a quick deal and others with some of the major world economies.

“We can make Britain a beacon for open trade,” he told The Sunday Times.

“We’ve already had a number of countries saying: we’d love to do a trade deal with the world’s fifth-biggest economy without having to deal with the other 27 members of the EU.” The prime minister hailed the willingness of Australia to do a deal as proof that Britain could benefit from Brexit.

“I have been very clear that this government will make a success of our exit from the European Union. It is very encouraging that one of our closest international partners is already seeking to establish just such a deal,” May said.

Britain cannot legally sign trade deals of its own until it ceases to be a member of the EU. But in a sign that cabinet Brexiteers want to move fast to get out of the EU, Fox said he would line up deals that would be ready to sign the day the UK leaves — dubbed “B-Day” in Whitehall — by January 1, 2019. He said: “That’s the date I’m working to, which could be brought forward if necessary.”

I don't argue for a second it's better for them to stay in, but I do think that if the SNP managed to work out a decent campaign, they could pull the wool over their eyes.

I think the big one last time was the currency. If they somehow sorted that argument out, they could pull it off.
>>
>>81376352

Fox said this Brexit date timetable was based on triggering article 50 of the Lisbon treaty — which will begin the formal Brexit process — by the end of this year. David Davis, the cabinet minister responsible for Brexit negotiations, also favours that timetable. But that could create tensions with May, who signalled on Friday she could delay Britain’s departure from the EU until Scotland agrees.

Yesterday May faced a backlash over her axeing of ministers who had been close to David Cameron. Hugo Swire, one of Cameron’s earliest supporters, posted a “That’s All Folks!” cartoon on Twitter to announce his departure: “Not a good time to be a Cameroon. The tumbrils are rolling again!”

Former business minister Anna Soubry, who had backed May in the leadership contest, laughed when the prime minister offered her a job outside the cabinet. She said she planned to join forces with social liberals such as Nicky Morgan, who was sacked last week, Michael Gove and Nick Boles, to “hold the government to account” for its pledges to boost social justice.

In a further distancing of the May regime from Cameron’s government, a Downing Street official said May would end her predecessor’s “government by Twitter”, with policy announcements no longer made on social media.
>>
>>81376405

May will reinforce her control of the government when she launches and chairs four new cabinet committees this week to drive home her key policies — on Brexit, the economy, security and “a society that works for everyone”.

Boris Johnson will launch a diplomatic offensive in Brussels tonight when he meets Federica Mogherini, high representative of the EU for foreign affairs, ahead of his first meeting with EU foreign affairs ministers tomorrow, when he will say the UK is set to become “global Britain”.

In other developments:

■ It emerged the head of May’s new No 10 policy unit effectively backed the expansion of a hub airport at Heathrow in a paper written two years ago

■ The Queen’s press secretary has been drafted in to help sell the Brexit deal to the public. James Roscoe, a former Downing Street official, will head up a Whitehall communications team

■ The long-awaited British Bill of Rights could be kicked into the long grass or even abandoned, according to Whitehall sources.

You have to realise how heavily subsidised Scotland is by the rest of the UK. They run an 11% budget deficit, which is paid for by English taxpayers.

They export 4 times as much to the rest of the UK as they do the entirety of Europe.

The Scottish pro-EU argument is almost entirely 'muh feels'. I don't doubt that arguments ability to win a referendum, but Scotland needs the UK far more than it needs the EU.

Sturgeon could just flip the tables and deadlock Brexit as the rest of the UK hate Scotland anyway so losing face with the rest of the UK would not matter that much.

The way I see all of this is that Scotland is getting fed up of being ignored and having decisions made that go against it. The same with how we were fed up with the EU making decisions against our will; the same with how the all of England was fed up of Westminster and London making decisions against our will.

This is going to turn bad something is done soon as the UK is all looking inward trying to save their own parts.

I doubt their top politicians are pushing for a separation strictly on feels arguments.
I'm most certain they have made some calculations and they decided they would lose much more from leaving the EU.

Don't forget that trading partners can be changed in time. And if you are in the Common market, you have way more opportunities to find new trading partners than if you are outside of it. Also, no trade tariffs, that's a big deal.

The only serious issue I see for Scotland is that realistically there is no legal way for them to stay in the EU without leaving the UK. This means they will be, indeed, first dragged out of the EU together with the other countries from the kindgom and then they will have to re-apply to EU membership, which could take years. And the question will be: which currency are they going to use? How is their economy going to adapt to this change until they rejoin the EU? These are the questions I'm sure Sturgeon's panel of advisors are trying to answer right now. I'm sure they are aware there's no way around having to re-apply for EU membership.

Are you dense?

Scottish independence has never been an economic argument, with or without Europe

nah, you don't understand the SNP. They don't want to leave because of brexit, they always wanted to leave and this is just a decent excuse.

On a positive note it's likely a second indy vote if done would be yes which would allow us to save a shit ton of money. Also if the vote was another no then Scotland would be forever humiliated and most likely become a part of England. It's a win both ways.

Also another interesting note; what is Brit/pol/'s reaction to a Scottish Pound?

Nobody is going to nuke their economy just for some feels, brah. Politicians make some cold calculations before making such decisions. But whatever, believe what you want.

The Euro is synonymous with economic failure and the pound is unavailable

You overestimate how much the rest of Europe gives a shit about buying Irn Bru and used needles

The 'Turkish' ancestors were some of the last ethnic europeans that existed in Turkey, before everyone became a shitskin rapebabby.

The last Scottish pound was merged into the English pound at a rate of 7:1

It'll end similarly with sturgeon pound, except into the euro

>Their prospects are a thousand times worse since the last ref
And they're getting worse by the day thanks to the London-centric policy that the UK goes with. It's not just Scotland that's suffering.

>They aren't even able to support themselves financially if they left.
Cut out the shite like tuition fees and prescriptions and we'd be fine. If shitty African countries can support themselves, we can.

>They don't meet EU thresholds for membership.
Again, the deficit is only so large because 1) the UK government retardedly lets us have it that way and 2) the retarded policies like prescriptions and tuition fees without paying extra tax. The problem would be persuading Belgium, Spain and France.

>They've been told they can't carry over our membership which means free movement and shengen.
That's a bonus for the Remaniacs up here.

>They also would have to take the Euro and would in short order end up like greece.
The Remaniacs up here would say that at least Greece is European.

>They just hold the threat of referendum on independence to get more power from westminster
Kind of true. More regions around the UK should hold the government to account though.

>But they'll never fucking leave because the dumb fucking leeches know what side their bread is buttered on.
We'd be worse off outside the UK. The UK would be worse off without us. I agree with you in principle.

>>81377093
>>81377344
It's true. They rank you on your GDP and GDP per capita. Scotland would be a contributor. Yet another reason I can't comprehend the Remainiacs up here.

>>81377168
