Here's why Brazil is 3rd World -- and why the USA is 1st World.
Both countries were colonized by White Europeans who encountered large populations of indigenous Amerindians. And both utilized black African slave labor in their agriculture.
The difference is that the Brits who colonized the USA were Protestants. They shipped White Anglo Saxon Protestant women to the world to be married off to the settlers and create colonies. So the white men had plenty of white women to marry and form families. There was no need to racemix with the natives or the slaves. Sure, there were the exceptions, I'm sure, where white men fucked some native pussy on the side and had mestizo children, but it was not common or else the USA would have looked like Mexico.
But in Brazil, the Portuguese were Catholics, not Protestants. Their Catholic women refused to leave Portugal and travel to Brazil, a place full of native savages and heathens and Amerindian devil children. Consequently, the Portuguese men would fuck the local native women when they got horny.
Most people don't know this, but Brazil took in more black African slaves than all other countries combined. Something like 60% of slaves went to Brazil because it's so fucking huge. Brazil's demographics are quite interesting. In 1880, the breakdown was 1/3 White, 1/3 Pardo(mixed), and 1/3 Black. The Brazilian elite realized they couldn't create an entirely White country by segregation or deportation, so they tried a different route: European mass-immigration + mass-miscegenation. The idea being to whiten the population until everyone was 90% White and 10% Other.
There weren't enough Europeans for the plan to succeed, but they did whiten the population greatly. Brazil's White population reached a height of 65% in the mid-1900s before rapidly plummeting after. Brazil's Black population fell to around 7% and the real winners were the Pardos who are now like 45% of the population. Most of Brazil has some mixture however. The average "White Brazilian" is 85% European whereas the average non-White Brazilian is 55% European. Around 70% of Brazil's total heritage is European.
They were only 20% away from their goal and thus, they failed in what they believed would bring about a society similar to pre-1965 America.

It's desirable to be White in Brazil, so people people with skin the color of Beyonce's will claim they're white since they're clearly much lighter skinned than their darker siblings who resemble Whoopi Goldberg's color.
