I don't know about the damage in the North Tower, I didn't really see heavy damage from Broadway. I was passing South Tower on Broadway, and the thing had a gigantic hole that you could see through on the other side. I didn't see much inside the hole. My instinct after that was to GTFO as far away from there as possible as fast as I can.
Surely when I was in Chinatown, the South Tower Collapsed. The ground did shake, so it could have been an explosion. I don't know what was it. But chances are it would have collapsed no matter what. The inside for 5-10 floors was literally empty. It had a giant gaping hole. I don't know why it doesn't appear on TV footage, but there is no way the building had any support inside. The beams were not there before it collapsed. It was holding up on the sides and the fire was spreading.
