So, can any of you smart brexit memers explain specifically what's so good about leaving the EU?

So far I've heard:

>more freedoms to make our own laws
except now we don't have EU privacy and human rights laws to protect, allowing the government to make even worse and more invasive laws than before

>trading will be easier since we won't have to get approval of all the other member states
but we traded a shitton with the EU and now we're out of it, meaning we're actually going to get a worse deal with them than before

Pro-EU support doesn't automatically translate into pro-independence support. SNP didn't realise that until after their press conference. They seem to be in a much worse position re:independence than two years ago as well so it's not really a concern yet.

I suppose we'd better keep an eye on it though.

In light of the EU's history, how did Labour end up being the pro-EU party?
>>
>>78719979
>Corbyn has already said he will not oppose the referendum.

Yes, but this will drive the Blairites mad, and they'll try and coup him, accusing him of being a closet UKIP leave-voting racist in the process (no sarcasm, they really will)

Note it was the Blairites, David Lammy and suchlike, who are talking about ignoring the outcome. The Paul Mason piece in the Guardian is basically written from John McDonnells office, where he's very closely involved in what's going on, and if he said they're going to abide by the outcome of the referendum then that's what they'll do.

What will be really funny is if BoJo backtracks on brexit and everyone has to vote Labour to enact Article 50 and actually leave the EU. The Blairites would be absolutely furious lol

Just going to say when I saw GoT last week it left me mildly upset.

1.Why kill Rickon? It felt like they were trying to make Ramsay even more hated, but that's not physically possible for me, so I was like "meh", Rickon was a character that wasn't developed so throwing him away to make Ramsay more hated felt sad.
2. Why is Jon Snow such a retard? I mean charging into the enemy when you have half the men?
3. Initiate the battle with cavalry? At this point I was 100% confident that Jon Snow had to lose the battle.
4. When Ramsay starts ordering volleys into the cavalry why does it wait so long between intervals? Archers were firing once every half a minute, which is a third of what would have been sensible, the point was to show some kind of melee fight instead of depicting the battle as the slaughter it should've been.
5. I hate the concept of a cavalry amry saving the day, it's a stupid twist that is completely unrealistic how do you move 2000 riders to the battlefield through enemy territory without Bolton forces being informed?
6.Why have the giant storm the gates? Jon Snow keeps claiming he cares about the undead army, a Giant is way stronger defensively than offensively, undead have no ranged, so keep the giant for the undead armies. One giant properly positioned with adequate could easily kill thousands of Undead.

Building Ladders and storming the castle 4hours later without the Giant is a better decision even if you lose 200 people, one giant is worth more.

The defeat of Benn and the anti-EU bloc of the Trade Unions in the early 1980's.

Jacque Delors coming to the TUC conference in 1987 to tell the Workers "You won't beat Thatcher at the ballot box, but by being in the EU you can mitigate the worst affects of Thatcherism" which shifted most of the Union movement (apart from Based Bob Crow and the RMT, who stuck to their guns and left the Labour party)

The same year Kinnock removed Labour's historic commitment to leave the EU out of the manifesto, and then a year later beat a Benn-Heffer leadership challange.

Then in the early 90's, as New Labour was getting underway and the left was being marginalised, the EU issue and single currency issue (ERM, Black Wednesday, ask your parents) was tearing the Tories apart and making them unelectable, just like it is now, and so they took a more united position to really rub salt in the Tories wounds. It played a very important role in the massive Labour landslide of 1997.

I'm a socialist and I voted leave on socialist grounds and democratic grounds. And because I've been enjoying seeing the powerful vested interests who run this country in the City take a massive kicking, along with pensioners, home-owners, people with cash savings and tons of other group who still haven't fully realised how fucked they are...

Lib Dems officially standing on a platform of overruling the referendum's result.

"The Liberal Democrats will stand at the next general election on a platform of derailing Brexit and keeping Britain in the European Union, the party has announced.

Leader Tim Farron said on Saturday night that he would be “clear and unequivocal” with voters that if elected it would set aside the referendum result and keep Britain in the EU.

He said the referendum result amounted to a “howl of anger” at politicians and that the election of a liberal government would be a way of registering a change of heart by the electorate."

>That is not happening

The pound dropping by 10% has already happened. Anyone with cash savings in the form of pensions is 10% poorer than they were pre-referendum. Take a look at the Daily Mail comment section to see the the expats crying that their budgets for all fucked up.

The other thing that's interesting on the topic of sterling is that according to the Financial Times Britain only has 6% of GDP on hand in Foreign Exchange reserves, which means there's not much chance of being able to prop up the currency indefinitely over the next 2 years to stop the City from fucking off the Frankfurt.

The pound might well recover some of it's value, but it's not going to be business as usual. The really bad shit is to come after we leave and the negotiations for joining the EEA begin. They could really fuck us up if they were feeling like making an example of us.

You won't believe me until it's too late, but that's fine. On behalf of the radical left, I'd like to thank all our comrades on the right for doing more to wreck British capitalism in a single day than we've managed in 100 years.

Strange way to describe Eurocommunism that, since they're way more right-wing than even the likes of Hitchens today (for example Eric Pickles is in the Tory cabinet even though he's a "reformed" eurocommunist)

New Labour had relatively little to do with the Eurocommies, since they were still with Marxism Today and the Communist Party of Great Britain at the time Blair took ownership of the party, although they were notable for supporting Blair over the Militant or the Bennites, they weren't really involved in New Labour.

I could give you some more accurate literature to read on the topic if you really wanted, but would I be wasting my time?

Yes.

Everything bad that happens from now will be blamed on Brexit. For instance, the economy was shrinking and due to enter recession in 2016, but now that recession will be deeper and longer, and the entire blame will go on Boris, Farage and the gang instead of the true culprit, Osborne.

There's going to be a "punishment budget" by Osborne put forward, which will contain £40bn worth of cuts, mainly focuses on areas that voted Leave in the North of England, as a form of sabotaging Boris from the moment he takes office. That's a seriously hefty dose of austerity for a country that's already had it's share, I wouldn't like to be in power having to deal with the aftermath of that...

From the guardians comments section:

If Boris Johnson looked downbeat yesterday, that is because he realises that he has lost.

Perhaps many Brexiters do not realise it yet, but they have actually lost, and it is all down to one man: David Cameron.

With one fell swoop yesterday at 9:15 am, Cameron effectively annulled the referendum result, and simultaneously destroyed the political careers of Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and leading Brexiters who cost him so much anguish, not to mention his premiership.

How?

Throughout the campaign, Cameron had repeatedly said that a vote for leave would lead to triggering Article 50 straight away. Whether implicitly or explicitly, the image was clear: he would be giving that notice under Article 50 the morning after a vote to leave. Whether that was scaremongering or not is a bit moot now but, in the midst of the sentimental nautical references of his speech yesterday, he quietly abandoned that position and handed the responsibility over to his successor.

And as the day wore on, the enormity of that step started to sink in: the markets, Sterling, Scotland, the Irish border, the Gibraltar border, the frontier at Calais, the need to continue compliance with all EU regulations for a free market, re-issuing passports, Brits abroad, EU citizens in Britain, the mountain of legistlation to be torn up and rewritten ... the list grew and grew.

The referendum result is not binding. It is advisory. Parliament is not bound to commit itself in that same direction.

The Conservative party election that Cameron triggered will now have one question looming over it: will you, if elected as party leader, trigger the notice under Article 50?

Who will want to have the responsibility of all those ramifications and consequences on his/her head and shoulders?

Boris Johnson knew this yesterday, when he emerged subdued from his home and was even more subdued at the press conference. He has been out-maneouvered and check-mated.

If he runs for leadership of the party, and then fails to follow through on triggering Article 50, then he is finished. If he does not run and effectively abandons the field, then he is finished. If he runs, wins and pulls the UK out of the EU, then it will all be over - Scotland will break away, there will be upheaval in Ireland, a recession ... broken trade agreements. Then he is also finished. Boris Johnson knows all of this. When he acts like the dumb blond it is just that: an act.

The Brexit leaders now have a result that they cannot use. For them, leadership of the Tory party has become a poison chalice.

When Boris Johnson said there was no need to trigger Article 50 straight away, what he really meant to say was "never". When Michael Gove went on and on about "informal negotiations" ... why? why not the formal ones straight away? ... he also meant not triggering the formal departure. They both know what a formal demarche would mean: an irreversible step that neither of them is prepared to take.

All that remains is for someone to have the guts to stand up and say that Brexit is unachievable in reality without an enormous amount of pain and destruction, that cannot be borne. And David Cameron has put the onus of making that statement on the heads of the people who led the Brexit campaign.
