Before forming Sol Invictus and dropping out of politics altogether, Tony Wakeford formed a band called Above the Ruins which released "Songs of the Wolf", the band's sole full-length musical recording.
Taking cues from Julius Evola's tome "Men Among the Ruins," Above The Ruins enjoyed a brief existence promoted by the British National Party of which Wakeford had become a member in 1984. Apart from his presence, the line-up of the band behind Songs of the Wolf is very obscure and was never revealed, due to the band's open political deployment. Rumors about the identities of the members proliferated, but none of them were ever confirmed.
The record was first circulating on tape as a demo in 1984, but was then reprinted on vinyl in 1986, with "Storm Clouds Over Europe" missing and now presumably lost. No one has ever found and released the tape online. Considering its short length, you'd be forgiven if you thought of this as an EP or mini-LP.
Above the Ruin's music is within the vein of early Death in June, but the approach is much more straightforward, less clumsy and more akin to darkwave not unlike Joy Division, Warsaw or Killing Joke. Despite the production being very rough shod (keep in mind this was originally recorded as a demo) and Wakeford's clumsy performance (especially those nearly atonal vocals on "Under Western Skies"), the band manages to sound professional. The "kicking" songs like Waiting, the title-track and Progress are quite enjoyable even if a pinch awkward.
The lyrics are obviously committed, but have some good meaning even apart from the National Front propaganda: in fact this is the first attempt done by Wakeford to capture the esoteric and regal doctrine indirectly implied in his political choice of the time.

Choice lyrics come from the song "Roses", based on two poems written by Paul Comben who published a small collection of Nationalist poetry called "1957, Before the Storm". Little is known about Comben, who disappeared after the '80s, but his work strongly influenced Above the Ruins:

The Final Sound.
The band played a style of New Wave based heavily on minimal synth with Post-Punk flourishes, a sound which should've come to the forefront of Rock Against Communism. The sound is so rich, it's almost impossible to replicate without actually having the instruments made during the era.
A friend of mine festively speculated this might be what disco would've sounded like had the Axis won the War. His description couldn't have been more perfect. Despite three different women fronting the band, only Steve X would be the one putting his voice to record. They allegedly produced one demo which has yet to surface.
We should make it our mission to find the demo. If any Britfags are reading this, do it for /pol/.

From Southampton, the Final Sound originally formed in January 1983 out of the ashes of punk band the Grey Wolves. The band started life with a line-up of Joanne Keal on vocals, James Cross on bass and Steve X on guitar, backing tapes and keyboards. In March 1983, Steve Pearson joined as drummer. Like James and Steve X, he too had played in the Grey Wolves. December 1983 saw Tony Mitchell join the band as keyboard player. He had already played in an all-electronic band called Visual Displays. Over the next two years, the Final Sound suffered a number of line-up changes, too many to mention, leaving just Steve X and Tony Mitchell in the band, both of whom were dedicated nationalists.
Interviewed by magazine New Dawn, Steve X and Tony Mitchell of the Final Sound had this to say: ‘Ulster — Steve is a staunch Loyalist, and we share the NF’s views on the scum called the IRA. The Tories talk a lot. But when they’re in power, as always, they do nothing. Multi-racialism — recent happenings have proved that people must wake up and realise that we are sitting on a timebomb. Multi-racialism may look glossy on Top of the Pops, but on the backstreets it’s a different story. Nationalism — we would describe ourselves as totally anti-Communist and anti-Socialist as well as being anti-big business. We are Nationalists.’
Despite their various ups and downs, they had stayed true to their nationalist beliefs. When asked about the music business, the Final Sound noted: The Music biz is a closed shop. Nowadays, it is impossible to get anywhere without being Socialist and into Live Aid. From Simon Bates of Radio 1 to the so-called ‘anti-establishment’ Paul Weller, the whole Biz is trying to get a monopoly on controlling the views of Britain’s youth. They are trying to warp minds into thinking that their views are the only ones. This is why White Noise is such a great thing. It challenges the monster that the Music Business has become.

There was talk of the Final Sound recording an album with the working title of ‘First and Last,’ but if an album was recorded it was never released. In this way, ‘Genetics’ became the band’s only recorded output. Defendant Tapes, operating out of a P.O. box in Huntingdon, allegedly released a tape by Final Sound called ‘Play to Win’, but it has yet to be located.
All of their other compositions are now seemingly lost forever, except for ‘The March,’ whose ‘lyrics are dedicated to our superb armed forces who fought in the Falklands’:

The Young National Front billed the Final Sound and Above the Ruins in the pages of New Dawn as the ‘new wave of white electronic dance bands,’ proclaiming: ‘But unlike previous ‘new waves’ this new wave of electronic bands won’t herald a new wave of degeneracy and drug abuse. Rising above the ruins of the corrupt capitalist system, this new wave will herald a New Order.’ The YNF planned a concert with Above the Ruins and the Final Sound for the princely sum of £ 3 per ticket. The author does not know if the concert actually went ahead.
