As someone who played thousands of hours of HOI2 back when it released in 2005, HOI4 triggeres the fuck out of me.
The land combat makes me foam at the mouth with anger. I want to be able to control my units in battle, that was the best part of HOI2/VIC2, now you are pretty much forced to let the AI play the game for you because they removed battle alerts.

Then you're a fucking idiot. Tiger 1s weren't invincible, they could get penned by shit at close ranges. The only advantage it really had was the gun as it was possible to knock out shit from further away. And if someone gets on your flank, tough luck, should've paid attention.
As for the game, I don't recall a 76mm T-34 ever pening me frontally before and 85mm ones were meant to fight Tiger 1s anyway, so not exactly a problem they can pen you. Keep your distance, angle yourself and wreck shit, Tiger H1 is one of the better tanks at its tier. Yeah, it sucks there's post war shit going against WW2 shit, but it's not like you can't deal with those post war tanks. Pt-76, Asu-85 and Asu-57 can get easily killed by you and they can kill you in return. It's still a game. And german tanks aren't that bad in the game, had plenty of fun using them (pic related). You can deal with lower tier shit if you actually aim instead of randomly shooting and getting a bounce. T-34s are easy kills and once you reach top tier, Leopards club shit with HEAT-FS

I used to enjoy that game, favorite stuff was the interwar designs like the He112, various biplanes, the Brewster Buffalo. That crazy Japanese boat-bomber, the Hurricanes (because brits are lunatics who thought 12 wing machine guns was a 'reasonable' design premise.)
Guess I just really liked the experimental era early in the war when people were trying a little bit of everything like multi-turret tanks.
Still, after a while the Ivan bias did get a bit tiresome. If only there'd be a game with similar aesthetics but in its own 'fantasy' setting so devs weren't regurgitating propaganda half the time. Hell, make use some of the crazier ideas like Airship Carriers (USS Arkron, or the Zveno bombers.)

The T34-85 with the APCR can barely pen the turret from the front. The M18 is more dangerous in that regard.
The Tiger is just a shit tank in my opinion.
It's too big and slow, the cannon and depression isn't as good as the Panther, and you have to angle the big thing all the time because you're just a big box.

CoH is still the best RTS ever made. The only problem that I still think looms over it are munitions. It has always bothered me how slow they mount up, I pretty much never used grenades because it was literally always better spent on medkits/weapons instead. Personally I loved Tiger H1 over Panther D as the 88mm APHE at least did some damage. Even when I got shot from a side by a Panther I knew it was that straight away, shit fucking turned my interior yellow like it always does when I try using the Panther. Ammo racking seems to be the only reliably way with the 75mm APHE, while 88mm APHE actually does proper damage. And Tiger's turret can at least stop shit, while Panther's is just a huge weakness. Would pick the Tiger over any of the Panthers, except for the Panther II. Fuckign love that thing

Some guy from vg's /wtg/ took two weeks with premium to get all british tanks. It took me around 2-3 months as I played more casually. One top tier tank will take you 3 days at least, with premium time+premium vehicle. And been playing since 1.27 (so 3+years), just take a break if grind gets too bad. There's enough shit to do to get you well over 1000 hours and ships are coming soon too.

Tiger E gets APCR and somehow that makes it a higher tier. I don't really bother with it, at least you don't get into 6.7BR constantly with H1. Realistically speaking, I doubt anyone would have the patience to get to top tier without paying, it'd take forever. Grinded US tanks to tier 4 without any premium, never again. Spent 350€ (~2000h) so far on the game and reached tier 5 in everything, will probably spend more and play more for sure. The game has so many things to do you won't get bored. But the grind will kill you if you don't pay or at least take constant breaks from the game.

graviteam tactics is alright but it desperately needs some sort of multiplayer and better skirmish options.
It's really barebones, the steam version has a game-breaking bug that requires a convoluted patch to fix, and the AI is fucking awful.

Game is kinda more balanced as it used to be imo

I like playing AI in strategy games. Online is way too hard for more casual gamer like myself. Played AOE2 online and thought I was doing okay, had walls and defenses, a small but growing army. Then several hundred missile shooting scropions came and destroyed it all in minutes. I prefer a more relaxed game that you can pause and consider your next move. Online is too intense you can't even take a piss until it's over. Not worth investing the amount of time it would take to get good in my opinion.

Germany has the best teamwork in planes, but pretty much no one has good teamwork in tanks, not even Germans. The matchmaker can still a bit wonky with nations, but I don't really recall the last time I was on the same team with USSR. It's possible on some maps, though. It's not really a problem except in sim, they have a fucking sim event with post war germany going against everyone else, instead of it being USSR vs NATO. But fuck any historical accuracy anyway, I guess.

I find it's just more enjoyable to face a challenge, and fighting AI just feels like I'm not achieving anything, I'm just winning and that's it, there's no contest, or success in it. multiplayer is fun because you're playing against someone who'll have a wholly unique playstyle every time, and trying to beat them is part of the challenge.

I played hundreds of hours in the first empire earth back then, and a good amount into age of empires. they were good for their time, but definitely have been surpassed with technological advancement. they had no damage models, awkward physics, units could only walk along 3 axes, and poor quality textures, to such a degree that it inhibited how the game played, not just making it ugly. empire earth was poorly balanced, the multiplayer was non-existant, and was entirely dependent on "who spawned by the largest gold deposits first". I mean I loved the game, and still do, but to say it's better than coh, probably the finest example of an rts out there is either autistic contrarianism or just idiocy.

You can only play units (no base building, kind of like Total War) and they speak their main language. There's Italian, German and even a Yugoslavia campaign where they speak Serbo-Croatian.
Pretty neat campaign, but not much beyond that.

I bought it and played it for an hour or two and then stopped playing. A year or two later I gave it another shot and this time I was hooked. Since then I've played through the original 5 or so times, Clear Sky once and Call of Pripyat 3 or 4 times. The 'STALKER Complete' mods make the games much prettier looking and make a few quality of life changes. I definitely recommend those. STALKER is probably the most immersive game I've ever played.

Ships are in alpha right now, they should be in CBT by the end of 2016. WT's CBTs can be shekeled in (was 50 euro for first tanks) so if you can't wait for a few weeks to get free access to ships when they are out, you'll have to shekel up. Japan and US are probably first nations to get them.
