God helps and protects his flock. He will give you sanctifying grace if you start walking with, but Christianity isn't a magic recipe for being happy, at least not in the normie meaning of the word. Either way you should speak to a priest first, he will be able to guide you through the phases necessary for conversion and to understand the doctrine of the faith.

Think about it this way. Jesus is literally God. He came on earth for the sole purpose of being spat on, tortured and killed by ungrateful kikes, so that we could share eternal life and dwell in his glory in heaven. If you were God, would you do that? Subject yourself to pain and death for humans? I think that alone takes ball of titanium.
Also people forget that the God of the OT is Jesus too. He came first as a merciful saviour, but in his second coming he will be a sever judge. He will condemn all the unbelievers and the sinners to the fires of hell. Edgy people on all sides of the spectrum will find out to a dear price how "spineless" Jesus is.
Buddy Jesus is a misconception of people who have abandoned the faith and therefore analyse Jesus separating him from his mission, his divine nature and his intervention throughout human history.

I'm self employed, affluent and suffer from depression. You can be Catholic or Orthodox and feel part of something very beautiful.
Unity or something. It's cosy. Religion means something again.
You're part of something greater. You don't need to believe. God is in the people.
Okay that's probably not Christian or Catholic.
So nice though. Unity.

His gifts and his call come from Jesus though. Of course a sinner keeps being called by Him until death. About gifts: you can be baptised and reject the faith, the gift remains, you don't have to baptise again. Get what I mean?
So I don't think that is a good refutation.

I've heard from some Catholic converts online that it gives them a will to live because they have a new found purpose. I don't mean this in a way that it would be an easy transition/life, but you will feel more at peace as you grow in faith (especially if you improve your prayer life).

>the only way to lose your salvation is to reject God
Rejecting wrong means you disobey him. For example if the Catholic Church is true and you are not part of it, you are partially disobeying God and therefore rejecting him.
>it's hard if you are baptised in adulthood to reject him
Come on, plenty of people who do. Also if they die unbaptised it's a very big problem for them. Who knows how many souls have been lost because of this. Baptism is so that the soul is saved even though you die as a child. What you try to do with baptism, we do with confirmation:

Following Jesus becomes an empty word if you don't define exactly how to follow him. The purpose of a unified Church with a structure, with sacraments, with apostolic succession is exactly that.
God is absolute truth, there is only truth in Him. He would never accept that members of his Church have conflicting views about the Truth that is in Him.
This is what I think you fail to understand. Yes, those who believe are the Church, but believing entails also following the Way, the Truth and the Life to perfection. That is why the Catholic Church is the way it is. The deposit of the Faith is preserved from error and by adhering to it, you adhere to the fullness of Truth. That is why Catholics say that protestant denominations are in "partial communion" with Rome, in the sense that they have partial truth, but not the fullness of it. We cannot say that you are destined to hell, but because of this reality your chances get much slimmer. The gate is narrow for Catholics too, you know? Most Catholics go to hell too even though we have the fullness of truth. The gate is very very very very narrow.
>Baptism doesnt save you
It does, we are suppoed to be born of water and Spirit.
>that faith saves you
The faith pushes you to be part of the Church and get the Sacraments though. I guess this way you could explain the necessity of works. Think about it....if God gave us the sacraments as a gift, aren't they nonetheless works? If you reject them, aren't you showing a lack of faith in Christ? The answer is yes. That is the big problem for you if you are wrong anon.

>you keep saying that the church is the way, it isnt, Christ is the way
The point is that the Church preserves the right way to follow Christ. Do you understand what I mean? Jesus is the way, but what if you take the wrong way without noticing? The Church is there for this.
> but just to get closer to Jesus
I try to get closer to Jesus day after day

The sacraments can be found in Scripture btw:
Baptism – John 3:5, Matthew 28:18-19
Confirmation – Acts 8:14-17
Reconciliation / Confession – John 20:21-23
The Eucharist – Matthew 26:26-28, John 6:53-55
Matrimony – Matthew 19:5-6
Holy Orders – Titus 1:5
Sacrament of the Sick – James 5:14-15

Either way Tradition is a real thing, it is not man-made invention. In fact these so called "man-made" invention, for some reason, are 95% the same among Churches that go from Rome, to Ethiopia, to India, places that had no contact with each other but developed an almost identical Sacred Tradition. That is because they had apostolic succession as an apostle went there to preach and build churches. Men-made inventions wouldn't have that level of coherence.

The second word used here means "disobey". Scripture clearly tell us pretty much everywhere that to believe means to have faith and do the will of the Lord. Believing without obeying His commandments is an empty and therefore dead faith.

Recently started getting interested in religion again
I was raised a baptist but the whole Protestant "jesus rock band" and "appeal to the youth with new age christian memes" is really turning me off
I have been extremely interested in attending mass at the local Catholic church because it seems alot more mature, and just all around more spiritual
Any tips for a christian leaning towards becoming catholic?
Would i even be able to attend mass?
Any pointers in general would be welcome

Well sure we were screwed by the Brits too but they invaded us and we lost. We were not there people, so I don't think they had to treat us better, I think we had to defended us better. If the roles were reversed we would have done the same to Brits.

If you are looking for a spiritural experience attend a latin mass, not the Novus Ordo. Look for FSSP (not SSPX, they are not in communion with Rome)

Speak to a priest. In the meanwhile learn how to pray the Rosary

Yes, absolutely, just don't take the eucharist. If you take it without doing the confession and being in a state of grace, it is a mortal sin.

yeah. Depending on your denomination, your baptism might be considered acceptable by the Catholic Church and you won't have to do it again. Confession though is necessary for the forgiveness of sins. Once they are forgiven (be sure to tell the priests all of them) you are in a state of grace, and can take communion, which is the literal body of Christ so it shouldn't enter an unholy place. Being Catholic is hard exactly because you have to mantain that state of grace all the time. Confession works, but you should not think "ok confession exists so I will just sin and confess later". Jesus knows your heart and you cannot cheat him by not being truly repentant. Confession works only with true repentance.
The priest will explain you anything. You will have to go through the RCIA first though
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rite_of_Christian_Initiation_of_Adults
I know that it seems like a lot of work, but that's the price to pay for preserving doctrine and keeping the Church united.
The first time-ever you take confession, the eucharist is also dipped in wine, but that's a little fun fact, not that important.

If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

>Is going from Protestant to Catholic a sin of any sort?
no, not at all, why would it be? Going from Catholic to Protestant is a sin I think, but the opposite is good because you are coming in the Church of Christ.
>To the best of my knowledge Protestantism is Catholics that separated from the Papacy and chose direct communication with God instead of through ambassadors (priests)
Protestantism rejected Sacred Tradition, that is, the teachings that the Apostles passed down and that are not explicit in the Bible (which was never meant to be a comprehensive guide to every little facet of the faith). Part of Tradition wasn't put into the Bible because there was no need to. For example the sinlesness of Mary is found in Scripture but it is not so explicit because the Gospel was about Jesus and focuses on him, that does not mean it is unbiblical or it is not true.
> I would need to start over from the beginning with Christendom?
You'll go through RCIA and learn the doctrine through the interpretation of the Catholic Church, but no, I mean, it depends how much you know. Either way don't worry, it's not hard at all.
>Seems the only difference is traditions not the principals but then I am ignorant to the other traditions
Here you will find a summary of protestant errors
http://www.protestanterrors.com/
Basically they separated themselves from the Church as an apostolic organism, and therefore started considering only the Bible as their source of understanding of theology, because it was the only way to have some kind of unmovable authority without hierarchies and a structure like the Catholic Church. 30 thousand denominations with differing beliefs later, we know that their attempt didn't work at all.

The word Purgatory does not appear in Scripture. However, we do find it described there. The Church chose this word because it is descriptive of what takes place there. In Purgatory a soul is purged of all impurities, impurities such as unrepented venial sins and any temporal punishment due for past sins. While the concept may seem foreign to some, evidence for it can be found in the pages of Scripture.

The Apostle John shows us that there are different degrees of sin:

If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal (1 John 5:16-17).

The Greek word used for mortal is thanatos (θάνατος). Thanatos signifies spiritual death as a consequence of sin – what we would call eternal damnation. Furthermore, the book of Revelation tells us that nothing unclean shall enter heaven (21:27). What would happen if we did not repent of a sin that was not mortal (venial) and we died? We are neither damned nor forgiven – yet we must be totally forgiven to enter heaven.

In Matthew 12:32 Jesus actually talks about forgiveness after death: "And whoever speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."

Temporal punishment is a debt to God which remains even after our sins are forgiven. The Old Testament shows us at least two examples. The first is when Moses and Aaron are not allowed to enter the Promised Land because of their sin (Numbers 20:12). The second is when David commits murder and adultery. David tried to hide his sin but is called out by the prophet Nathan. David repents but that is not the end of the story:

David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord." And Nathan said to David, "The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child that is born to you shall die." Then Nathan went to his house.

Note that Nathan tells David that the Lord has forgiven him. However, because of the seriousness of the offence he must still be punished. And so he is. In both of these cases there is serious sin, then forgiveness, then punishment. That punishment is called temporal punishment.

Jesus speaks of Purgatory in Matthew 18:23-35. While speaking on forgiveness He says: "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to..." and then He tells a story about a king who forgave a servant's large debt. That same servant refused to forgive a much smaller amount owed to him by a fellow servant. When the king found out he threw the first servant into prison "until he should pay back the whole debt." Jesus then says, "So will my Heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart." What prison is there in the kingdom of heaven where you might remain until your debt is satisfied? Purgatory is the only thing that makes any sense.

In 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 Paul tells us: "The work of each will come to light, for the day will disclose it. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire [itself] will test the quality of each one's work. If the work stands that someone built upon the foundation, that person will receive a wage. But if someone’s work is burned up, that one will suffer loss, the person will be saved, but only as through fire." If that is not Purgatory what is it?

Those detained in Purgatory can be aided by those of us still on earth. The Catechism of the Catholic Church puts it this way:

From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God. The Church also commends almsgiving, indulgences, and works of penance undertaken on behalf of the dead (1032).

One example "from the beginning" comes to us from Aristides, one of the first Christian apologists. He wrote: "If one of the faithful dies, obtain salvation for him by celebrating the Eucharist and by praying next to his remains" (Apology [A.D. 138]). Note the early date? This was written about 100 years after the death of Christ.

Other Church Fathers agree. Tertullian notes: "The faithful widow prays for the soul of her husband, and begs for him in the interim repose, and participation in the first resurrection, and offers prayers on the anniversary of his death" (Monogamy 10 [A.D. 213]).

Inscriptions in the catacombs bear witness to this ancient Church teaching. One reads, "Intercession has been made for the soul of the dear one departed and God has heard the prayer, and the soul has passed into a place of light and refreshment." Another one reads, "In your prayers remember us who have gone before you."

In 2 Timothy 1:16-18 Paul appears to be praying for a friend who has died. He writes: "May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me; he was not ashamed of my chains, but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me eagerly and found me. May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that Day and you well know all the service he rendered at Ephesus."

Note that Paul doesn’t say may the Lord grant mercy on Onesiphorus and his household. He mentions them separately because they are not together. He then asks mercy for Onesiphorus "on that day" (future tense). This is a reference to the final judgement.

The tradition of the Jews can be found in 2 Maccabees 12:42-46: "Turning to supplication, they prayed that the sinful deed might be fully blotted out...He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice…if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death…Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin."

The Jewish historian Josephus, while commenting on the endurance of the Jews under siege in the year 63, writes, "Just as if deep peace enfolded the city, the daily sacrifices, offerings for the dead, and every other act of worship were meticulously carried out to the glory of God" (The Jewish War). If praying for the dead is wrong, as some contend, and it was practiced in Jesus' day, why didn't He or the Apostles condemn it?

For some of our Protestant friends, the whole idea of Purgatory is problematic. For them salvation is a simple matter. You accept Christ as Lord and Savior and you are saved. Degrees of sin are irrelevant. Once you accept Jesus, they say, all past, present and future sins are forgiven. You are in the express lane to heaven and there are no stops in between. Of course all of that would contradict the verses of Scripture that we just discussed as well as some others (see essay on Justification).

We can pray for our dearly departed just as we prayed for them while they were with us. Even when we are busy a quick "Jesus have mercy on the souls in Purgatory" is helpful. Of course the greatest prayer is the Mass.

Offering up our sufferings is another type of prayer. It is often referred to as redemptive suffering. In Colossians 1:24 Paul says: "Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church."

Certainly Paul doesn’t mean to say that Christ’s work on the cross was in any way deficient. He is talking about offering up his own sufferings as a prayer for the Church. The footnote in the Revised Standard Version says it this way: "Christ’s sufferings were, of course, sufficient for our redemption, but all of us may add ours to his, in order that the fruits of his redemption be applied to the souls of men."

While there is suffering in Purgatory there is also great joy. For all who are there are assured of their salvation. Yes, they long for heaven. But they are the Church Penitent and as such they are the bride of Christ. And just like any other bride they wish to be spotless before being presented to their groom.

"Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready" (Revelation 19:7).

The Church has always taught that the Eucharist is the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ. This is called the Doctrine of the Real Presence. To be sure there are people who find this hard to accept. However, belief in the Real Presence rests upon the words of Christ Himself. In John 6:48-57 we read the following:

I am the the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread, will live forever, and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. The Jews quarreled among themselves saying, "How can this man give us His flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me."

Opponents of the Real Presence contend that this is all symbolic. But read what happens in verses 60 and 66, – "Then many of His disciples who were listening said, 'This saying is hard, who can accept it?'...As a result of this, many [of] His disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied Him."

Why was it hard for Jesus' disciples to accept something that was supposedly symbolic? Why would they abandon Him over it? Apparently they took Him literally. If they were wrong, why didn't He correct them? When Jesus taught something and it wasn't understood, He would explain it as He did with the parables. If His message was understood but rejected, He just repeated it with more force, as He did with the Pharisees. Which category do you suppose John 6 is in?

At the Last Supper, Jesus fulfilled His promise: "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, 'Take and eat, this is My body.' Then He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, 'Drink from it all of you, for this is My blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins'" (Matthew 26:26-28). This could hardly be seen as symbolic, as Jesus held bread and the cup of wine in His hands and said "This is my body" and "This is my blood." He was obviously referring to what He was holding. Luke records that Jesus also said to do this in memory of Him (22:19). For the Jews, to do something "in memory" meant to present it again, to relive it in a substantial way.

Paul affirms the Real Presence in 1 Corinthians 10:16 and 11:27-29. "The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?... Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord...For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself." If the Lords body and blood are not present, how can a wrong be committed against them?

Under the Old Covenant God commanded the Israelites to offer sacrifices to atone for their sins. One of the sin offerings was a lamb (Leviticus 5:1-6). The Old covenant prefigured the New Covenant. The sacrificial lamb of Leviticus is a type or picture of Christ. Jesus is the sacrificial Lamb of the New Covenant: "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).

The Old Covenant lamb would be sacrificed and then a part of that sacrifice would be eaten in order to receive its benefits. (Leviticus 6:24-26). Likewise Jesus, the New Covenant Lamb, would be sacrificed and His body would be eaten in order to receive its benefits: "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood, you do not have life within you" (John 6:53).

The Early Church understood the nature and significance of the Eucharist. Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch from the year 69 to 110, writes in his Letter to the Smyrnaean: "But look at the men who have those perverted notions about the grace of Jesus Christ…They will not admit the Eucharist is the self-same body of our Savior Jesus Christ which suffered for our sins, and which the Father in His goodness afterwards raised up again" (7:1).

A few decades later, around the year 150, Justin martyr wrote: "Not as common bread or common drink do we receive these, but since Jesus Christ our savior was made incarnate by the word of God and had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so too as we have been taught, the food which has been made into the Eucharist by the eucharistic prayer set down by Him, and by the change of which our blood and flesh is nourished, is both the flesh and the blood of that incarnated Jesus" (First Apology 66).

But why the Eucharist? Why couldn’t Jesus just strengthen us through prayer? Well He can and He does. However, we are physical and the world we live in is physical. The Eucharist is something we can see and touch and that makes it more relatable. Jesus Himself came to earth in the flesh. To be sure He came to sacrifice Himself to save us from our sins. But I believe that His physical presence served another purpose; to make God more real to us. He is called the Word of God because he is the physical manifestation of the hidden reality (God). Likewise the Eucharist is the physical manifestation of the now hidden Christ. Adoring a Jesus you can see is easier than adoring a Jesus you can’t see. I am not saying that it is a necessity, but it is an aid. St. Thomas Aquinas said as much in his Summa Theologica:

Sacraments are necessary unto man's salvation for three reasons. The first is taken from the condition of human nature which is such that it has to be led by things corporeal and sensible to things spiritual and intelligible. Now it belongs to Divine providence to provide for each one according as its condition requires. Divine wisdom, therefore, fittingly provides man with means of salvation, in the shape of corporeal and sensible signs that are called sacraments (3:61:1).

I also believe that the Eucharist is a test of faith. It is really easy to have faith in Jesus when he tells us to love our neighbor. But how about when He challenges us with something that is outside of our normal realm of experience? As we saw earlier the Scriptures are quite clear when it comes to the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The bread becomes His body and the wine becomes His blood. The question is do we believe it?

Jesus invited Peter to walk on water and he did (Matthew 14:22-29). He told Noah to build an ark to prepare for an event that was, to the natural mind, beyond the realm of possibility (Genesis 6:13-17). God told Abraham He would give him a son and then once he did he asked him to sacrifice him on an altar (Genesis 22:1-14). Moses was asked to take on Pharaoh (Exodus 3:1-12), Mary was asked to have a virgin birth (Luke 1:26-35), and Elizabeth and Zechariah were told they would have a child even though she had been barren and they were both advanced in age (Luke 1:5-13).

All were called to have faith in seemingly impossible situations. And we admire those who did. But what about us? When faced with a situation that seems to defy logic do we believe Jesus or do we come up with our own plan like Sarah did (Genesis 15:1-6, 16:1-4)? To deny the Eucharist is to deny that God is capable of supernatural acts.

The sacrament of the Eucharist is a gift from God. In the words of St. John Vianny: "Jesus Christ found a way by which He could ascend into Heaven and yet remain on earth. He instituted the adorable sacrament of the Eucharist so that He might stay with us and be our Companion."

>Everything inside an everything, bruh.

Sure buddy, get some more weed.
Do you have a single piece of evidence to back those outrageous claims up? You know man, that you don't understand a thing doesn require god for it to actually work and no, the processes in atoms are completly fucking different thing then processes in galaxies. Even though your small mind imagines them as similar, they are, in fact, not. Or did you ever saw a fucking planet at two places at once?

Also, I know you are home and you would like to have jesus inside you.

I have a devil inside, answer only if you are christian.

Why does this devil always seem to be pushing me towards jesus and his teachings and away from Satan?

"Believers" who do not believe their own words will be considered devils, you don't have to express agreement with my words to make me see I'm right, I do not seek for your approval, I am merely here to mock you, as I know the tale and what does the human body feel when you say with your mouth: save me Satan (and it mya not be the body what feels something, I may not tell you the whole story so that you may screw up here).

But you're here so you're upset.
Don't be lad.

Durham Cathedral, England, where I grew up. Just under 1000 years old. The interior is incredible, sparse, cavernous, cold and echo-y

I've always been an atheist and always loved churches, the older the better. Weird eh?
