Buddhist here. I'm very fond of Matthew 5:38-48 but quite frequently see Christians - including ones on this board - claiming that it's not meant to be taken literally. I understand that it's a very difficult ideal to live up to but it seems pretty straightforward to me. Is there actually any reason to take it non-literally?

I did. On the March 26 of this year of the Easter Vigil. Not only baptized but also confirmed and received my first communion. It was an extremely powerful experience. I was literally shaking as I carried my pitcher of holy water around the church during the litany of the saints.

Very cool. I'm actually a little jealous of those who are baptized as adults. Revert here who was baptized as a baby but never confirmed. So I guess I got that to look forward to.
>>
>>76136012
Yeah, it's unfortunate. It's like how skinheads make all of national socialism look bad. While I happen to believe that NW European stock, and possibly some Eastern European, are the Israel of the bible, it is not a free pass to salvation. If anything, we will be held to an even higher standard.

When I learned about Jesus saying that jews are of their father the devil, and I learned about their religion and how evil they are, and the prophecies being fulfilled, I was convinced that the Bible is real and accurate. Before that I was "spiritual not religious" which I now realize is just the new age one world religion.

It took me 100s of hours of research to come to this conclusion, fwiw.

>>76136719

Which is why I find it strange that such a well known and unambiguous passage is seemingly ignored by so many otherwise devout people. According to my understanding of this and other scripture, the ideal Christian is, as /pol/ would put it, a complete cuck, because this world is unimportant. If you live a holy life, you will spend the rest of eternity in Heaven so aren't people missing the bigger picture when they read Jesus' words in a way that makes it seem ok to go forth and kill other people?

>More Chesterton Pearls
Chesterton spoke out eloquently against birth control, first of all attacking the dishonesty of the very term itself. It is called birth control, when in fact it isn’t birth and it isn’t control. In one of his many prophetic utterances Chesterton says, "I might inform those humanitarians who have a nightmare of new and needless babies (for some humanitarians have that sort of horror of humanity) that if the recent decline in the birth-rate were continued for a certain time, it might end in there being no babies at all; which would console them very much."

He warned that the birth control would lead to abortion and it would be considered a sign of "progress." Progress is a meaningless term that is praised by a secular society. You cannot have actual progress until you define your goal or your ideal; then you can determine whether or not you are moving closer to achieving it. But the world considers a thing "progressive" not by what it is moving towards but by what it is moving away from. If a tradition is destroyed, it is called "progress." Progress is a slippery word that keeps changing its shape. In his prophetic book Eugenics and Other Evils, Chesterton says that evil always takes advantage of ambiguity. "Evil always wins through the strength of its splendid dupes…and there has in all ages been a disastrous alliance between abnormal innocence and abnormal sin."
>>
>>76137100
I think a better way to put it is that you can hold sin to be sin while not sinning yourself when evil is brought against you. There's nothing cowardly about not retaliating against people who sin against you. It takes a whole lot more for most people to take shit - whether verbal or physical - without responding in a sinful manner than it does to lash out.

Feminism is certainly an example of the disastrous alliance between innocence and evil. Feminists complain of real wrongs against women, but then make an alliance with an evil that is much worse. They glorify something called "choice" (another ambiguous word) and convince themselves that killing babies has something to do with dignity. The feminists are "splendid dupes," who have given up the freedom and power they had in the home to become wage slaves in the workplace, and who have given up God’s most sacred gifts of birth and motherhood while claiming they are exercising "reproductive freedom."

>More Based Chesterton

The basic problem of feminism is the misconception that men and women are equal. It may come as a shock to some people, but there is in fact a difference between men and women. Chesterton says, "The difference between man and woman accounts for almost everything important that has happened. We must realize that when we try to make man and woman alike."

He says that of the two sexes, the woman is in the more powerful position. The woman controls the home, that fundamental unit of society. If you control the home, you control society. Chesterton says, "When I think of the power of woman, my knees knock under me." Ironically, the feminists, by giving up their power in the home, gave up all their power. When they moved into the workplace, most women certainly became like most men in that they became wage slaves, but they did not gain anything, and they certainly did not gain power. It was a distinct step downward. "What is called the economic independence of women is the same as what is called the economic wage-slavery of men."

Feminists lost the privilege of raising their children to a day-care industry or a public school. Or they did something even worse: they killed their children.

If you really want to know....the "new age" is the end of Christianity and the rise of Lucifer worship. It's the Age of Aquarius.
The new age religion, the non-specific worship of an unknowable higher power, is lucifer worship. http://rense.com/general85/lucifer.htm
I just googled that but also the founder of new age is Blavatsky a kike....it's a deep rabbit hole and the foundation of truly being red-pilled.

That said, it's way too much for most people to take in without prior research.

Before JudeoChristian dogma took hold in the Eastern Med, Archimedes was able to create the first ever computer (AntiKythera Mechanism) with advanced technology like differential cogs, a technology that was not re-invented until the 16th century.

It is only since the renaissance that humans have been able to produce technological marvels like the Large Hadron Collider or putting a man on the moon. We grew tired of 1500 years of superstition and our ancestors freed themselves (and saved us) from the shackles of mediocrity, superstition and sheep mentality, where natural intelligence and curiosity was being sacrificed to spare the feelings of those with weak minds.

I ask that question because I have felt like I've regained my faith in god lately and feel closer to him, I can't explain why. An epiphany I guess. For a while I felt like it was all bull, the last 4-5 years have been miserable, in 2010 I lost a close family member dropped out of college and suffered from depression I had no friends either since they were all in college/uni, I wasn't particular religious either.

A couple years ago I reconnected with an old friend and he offered me an opportunity that I couldn't pass up, I didn't want to be miserable and shitty everyday. Now it's currently leading me onto a career path, through that I met a whole bunch of new wonderful people. Personally I like to believe things happen for a reason and feel like it was some kind of divine intervention, I know it sounds cheesy but I really do believe it.

Anyways I just wanted to tell my story and wondered if others could relate.

Depends on who you ask and where you ask. Theologically speaking we view the Roman-Catholics as heretics although getting into polemics and judging others is not something we are encouraged to do. your story is similar to that of all those who find their way to God. We realise that God does for us only after it happened, and only if we obtain a certain sensibility. Most people realise how God has been carrying them on His shoulders when they lose all the vanities that the world presents to them and that cloud their eyes.

Religion is pure transmitted culture unconnected to any empirical reference (give or take the odd thunderbolt)

God is dead because the idea of a transcendent world where God hangs out is just a delusion.

we are on our own and have to produce our own values and live our lives from within our own existence and experience without external guidance - hence existentialism.

I wouldn't worry about it. The entire church is starting to shift to the right, we're becoming really conservative. It's similar to a ripple of a wave, though. It will take a while before this new fervor reaches the higher ups (cardinals and bishops), but it will happen soon.

> the hippy feel-good novus ordo mass makes my skin crawl
The way I see it, the problem of Novus Ordo is that it allowed modernists enough space to act like modernists, but it isn't the Novus Ordo itself to be the problem.
What I don't like about traditionalists is that they think the mass is the root of all problems. In my opinion that is wishful thinking. The problems of the Church are bigger and deeper. I dislike the ecumenism and the lax reaction to secularism and other religions that the Council fostered too though. I think that is a much bigger problem than the liturgy.
Hopefully the next Pope fixes it. I will never leave the Church though, Jesus won't let us drown and I trust Him with all my heart.

I took communion by accident before I became Catholic. I didn't know that I wasn't supposed to do it, I just did it because everyone else was doing it and I figured that was the procedure.

I know I wasn't supposed to now. But I can't help but think maybe God wanted me to do it.

When I walked up to that Priest and he said "Behold, the Blood of Jesus" I couldn't help but feel the power of the Holy Spirit and how incredible it was.

It led me to becoming Catholic imo. Because later I realized I wanted to be able to do that during every mass.
>>
Do you think you've been "saved" anon? If so, what was the experience like?

It was pretty intense for me. I cried out for Jesus to help me (just in general, my life was really fucked up at this point) and I felt this warm energy or something go through me and I felt completely at peace and extremely happy, like something I hadn't ever felt before, and I just knew that he was real. I don't know if that's the exact moment when I was saved, but since then I've confessed with my tongue that Jesus is Lord many times

Besides that, I don't know a single young priest that's a leftist. This new generation of priests and seminarians is completely different than their predecessors of the past 100+ years. Our generation is going to experience something great, tbqh.

You don't have to doubt everything to be sure "you" exist. "There are thoughts" is a necessary a priori truth - it's unavoidable to have that understanding. It's self-affirming.

You can understand the Bible in a literal infinite number of ways. All but one of those ways is wrong in some account or another, but such is the case.

The question I'd raise is why give credence to some other ways of understanding as more valid or enticing than another? And I'll tell you what I've found is that ultimately our reasons for doing so reduce to nothing more substantial than personal preference. Which is frustrating and not the conclusion I'd like to have - since it makes ministering to other people supremely difficult - but it's the conclusion I've found is unavoidable.

Thanks, man. You should definitely discern it, the Church needs a lot of good priests in these times.

Eh, I used to be pretty salty on the whole celibacy thing, but now I kind of appreciate it. It allows you to completely focus on your ministry/parish. I'd get married in a second if they allowed it, though.

>>
>>76145954
yeah, but I'm glad I can simply google anything and discover a lot of information in a few seconds.

Most people tend to use internet to gossip and waste their times.

Sure, physical pleasures are nice, sure sex is nice, but in the end is just dumbed down shit for me.

In the end it comes down to having deeper understandings, that's the central idea.

I rather have a vague understanding of the real situation than simply eating and believing propaganda, even if it comes from the bible.

Like I said, it's important for me to gain deeper understandings of things, that's the only thing I can do.

It seems a life more worthy of living than what the vast majority of humans do wasting their precious time in stupid entertainment.

This is nothing you haven't thought of already, of course, but just for the record:
You could go Orthodox of course, but I don't think that's going to get you where you want to go. Or be a deacon? You can also leave the priest hood if you feel like you're called to marriage. I know a guy who did that, and another guy who attended but didn't graduate seminary.

Celibacy is the Big One. There are priests I don't particularly like, but I still respect the hell out of them for their commitment.

That's exciting, anon. I can't wait to hear what sorts of things you learn.

Ephesians 6:10-20

Finally, be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your

stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is

not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,

against the authorities, against the powers of this

dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in

the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor

of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may

stand your ground, and after you have done everything,

to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth

buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of

righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with

the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In

addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,

with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows

of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the

sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And

pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of

prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and

always keep on praying for all the saints. Pray also

for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be

given me so that I will fearlessly make known the

mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in

chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I

should.

So from what I read Jesus was saying if a man strikes you with his right hand (as he would a child or something) do not retaliate in kind (eye for an eye as in the OT) but make him use his left hand to strike your other cheek. In Jesus time (as it is now to a certain extant) the left hand has negative conotations ie it was unclean. By making this man strike you with his left hand you put him in a morally compromising position without becoming violent yourself. You make this man think about his actions. If you respond with violence this slapping man does not learn anything.

Sorry for typos I don't want to proofread but I hope that helps.

It's about the comming debt jubilee.
Many people aren't aware of, but the elites follow religiously a plan to make the biblical end times true.

It's pretty obvious to all people who follow economy, the current system is at the brink of collapse, problem is, this collapse could mean the end of the economic system and change our lives for ever.

I dunno what will happen, but many of such things appear in the end times of the bible.

I could give you more shit to watch, that correlates with the biblical end times that can be researched in news media.

I have an issue: I acknowledge that Christianity is the foundation of Western Civilization but I simply can't reject science and my personal outlook on life and believe that God exists. I really want to, but I just can't. I read the bible a lot, and I acknowledge there's much wisdom there and that it lays the framework for a harmonious society, but I can't believe that everything is the result of God because it just conflicts with how I logically register the world around me.

How do I believe, /csg/?

I hope all of you look at this thread and see what happens when Catholics take over a Christian thread. Hardly anywhere is anyone actually discussing scripture or even attempting to help their fellow man reach a fellowship with Christ. Catholics worship everything but Christ, and even go as far as discouraging people from reading scripture for themselves. It's shameful what you Catholics bring to these threads.

Long story short: I ended up with an evil spirit inside and people who claimed to come from Satan would attack me using supernatural powers.

For some reason these people and spirits that allegedly came to me trying to send me to Satan aren't fond on me accepting Satan as my God and saviour.

What gave me the idea to make this move is how an alleged "daughter of Satan" wanted to get the fuck away from me the moment I sarted calling on Satan myself.
