I love the English language. There are such beautiful poems with syllable timed rhythms that contain a natural music. Gaelic is different. I'm reading William Blake just now. Beautiful use of language. The words are very moving.

All of the people you elect don't get to amend or even start legislation, that is, making laws, and all that they're allowed to do is to simply pass it or reject it. Though you will have to build a consensus with several other countries just to do that.
Of course, you could reject their lawmaking and regulation altogether, but then you'd get sued by them, not to mention that the bureaucracy will also get involved with your politics, disarm your people, and eventually manipulate them by ensuring certain people never get into power.
Oh and they take an inordinate amount of money to bribe your intelligentsia, make you pay the difference whenever corruption creates a blackhole in the budget that no one understands where it came from, and take salaries which put the one your elected leaders get to shame.
