Legal immigration should be swift, inexpensive, and legally thorough. Quotas should exist, but be lenient and carefully examined.
Illegal immigration, particularly of the last 50 years, has done nothing but degrade the culture and quality of life in America.
You can't sustain public services or decent wages when there's an unlimited influx of completely uneducated, completely unskilled workers that soak up entitlements like the thirstiest of sponges.
We may well be beyond the point of saving the United States from becoming Mexico 2.0. Already we have an election where a majority of young people are voting for Old Man Free Stuff.

It looked like a decline up until the late 90s, but that was from lack of education and oppression rather than some unwanted quality that immigrants have (other than the lack of education, which can easily be fixed). California is minority majority and yet is still a very rich state, with a now competent governing body. Crime is low, the economy is still rising especially now that the drought is letting up, and debt issues are on track to getting settled. This is even with things like Medi-Cal and welfare getting paid for.

Education is incredibly expensive, particularly in California. Last time I checked you're spending over 10k per year per child. Just 10k illegal children in your schools would cost the state 100 mil a year. A more realistic 100k would be your state pissing away a billion dollars a year on education alone.
Having ports, farms, and industries in california has kept your state from going completely under, but nothing about the massive unchecked immigration has helped your state. I would argue that california would have billions in surplus if they weren't offsetting the low wages and social services shortages that illegals produce.
