2/3rd of all firearms deaths annually are suicides. It is false to claim that 30,000 Americans are killed by guns. 20,000 Americans commit suicide with guns.
The government is not meant to infringe upon the negative individual liberties of citizens to protect the positive collective rights of citizens, especially when the negative and positive rights in question are the right to bear arms, and the right to not be at risk to kill oneself.
Now we can move onto the remaining 10,000 annual firearm homicides. The vast majority of these (70-80%) are crime related. These are homicides committed with illegal firearms or within the context of other crimes. No amount of gun control, save for the absolute ban and removal of all firearms from the civilian population, will prevent these homicides.
The remaining 2000 homicides are simply the price we pay for a free and sovereign society. Considering that 30,000 people die of the flu each year, and that half a million die of heart disease, I think that we can afford that cost.

Am I the only one who thinks guns should be treated like cars? Just make people take a written and practical examination, give them a license, then let them buy as many guns as they fucking want.

Let's take this point even further here, the issue here is the RIGHT TO DEFEND YOURSELF the right to bear arms is basically just an extension of that right and they probably worded it with arms so some smug fuck wouldn't come along and say "It says you can defend yourself, it doesn't say with guns!" The Founders had to make it clear that you have a right to self-defense, not matter what you use for that defense.
