Is /pol/ for or against the death penalty? What crimes should have such a severe punishment? Should terrorists/rapists/serial murderers be given a second chance or should they just be dealt with?

Personally I think it's a great idea - it's a good crime deterrent and stops the waste of tax payer money on wasted human beings.

Discuss.

Against. I think most times waiting till people are 50-60 years old solves it. Also shouldn't kill or life imprison people who made poor decisions as teenagers. We all did. Keep em for 20-30 years then let them die in peace free.
>>
>What crimes should have such a severe punishment?
Morally unjustifiable intentional killing, or being accomplice to one.

I did some research on it for school a long time ago, and found out that nearly two thirds of the people on death row in my state were mentally handicapped, and in many cases didn't know any better or didn't think their actions would have lead to someone dying.
>>
For the death penalty. Just don't have a stupid legal circus of appeals that suck up more tax payer money than it does to keep them locked up in life. It's ridiculous. Depends on the circumstances but in general I think crimes that should be punishable by death are:

>murder in the first, second, and third degree.
>attempted murder
>rape.
>Sex crimes; CP, prostitution of minors.
>terrorism
>Drug related crimes.
>Human trafficking.
>Money laundering.
>Corruption.
>Treason

The idea of a death sentence with reprieve is an interesting sentencing in China although if reprieve is handed out, it should be given to lesser crimes and the penalty should still be a life sentence.

There are 3 parts to deterence meant to be achieved by punishment. Capital punishment focuses on one of the least effective of the three, which is the severity of the punishment. The more important concepts are the certainty of punishment, and the fact that it will be as soon after the crime as possible so as to awwociate that crime with the punishment. Unfortunately the people we want to deter the most are career criminals and terrorists as you mentioned or for the most hienous of crimes, but the fact of the matteris these are the types of people who are the less detered from punishment and usually have tye idea they wont get caught if that thought ever crosses their mind. Which leads to a point that ill come back to because i need to make tye point that often times the severity of a punishment can work against the objective of it. For example, a child less willing to come forward about an abuser that they mighthave mixed feelings about like a father, or someone whose grown and raped and maybe struggling to define it, in the example of a terrorist i think its most obvious that the death is not a deterrent and is something that escalates the situation. Instead of capture and imprisonment some litterally would rather death and youwould be rewarding the sickest people. Did i mention it doesnt work? Theres theories as to why but i align myself with the understanding that capital punishment puts a value on life, thats what it teaches, u can pay with ur life. But life is priceless and when you put a value on life, and peoples values are different and even change for themselves overtime, you dont hafe people valuing human life the same levels, and bad people can think they can take it, or abuse it. If you look to our friends in rhe states, unfortunately capital punishment has failed them, and at a cost to culture and taxes. Those states with capital punishment see more sefere crime including higher murder rates. Most people agree the punishment should fit the crime
>>
>it's a good crime deterrent
Is it really?
>>
Against it.
But for the reinstatement of torture, not to gain confessions but as penalty.

To add. I think crimes for which the death penalty should be applicable should not be applied for justice but to reaffirm the authority of the State. This isn't about the person but the crime that was committed. The state should demonstrate the severity of the crime and the state should demonstrate that the crime should not be committed under risk of death. The death penalty should be employed only to reaffirm the authority of the state.

I understand the sentiment but its stupid. Someone that's in prison for 30 years is released into a world they barely recognize. They may be aware of the changes indirectly bit they've never experienced the new world. It amounts to culture shock. Like that old guy that was released after like 50 years and cried when he had his first freedom burger. This is why a lot of ex cons return to prison, they just cant handle it or keep up.

If we're going to use the death penalty then it should only be applied to cases where the person is guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. In that case they should be put to death immediately.
>>
Pro, but not this lethal injection shit. It waste too much money.
>>
In favor.

People who are found unquestionably guilty of-
>Terrorist activities
>Conspiring to commit terrorist activities
>Murder
>Attempted Murder
>Sexual assault against minors
>Keeping or distributing Child Pornography
>Human trafficking
>Treason
>Political corruption
>High-level drug dealing
>Rape
>Mentally ill who pose a danger to general public
>Knowingly giving someone HIV
>Repeat offenders for GBH or intention to commit
>Repeat class A drug offences

It should be carried out within a month of the court hearing rather than years later, using the cheapest method available.

I believe there is a story of a Canadian woman who tried to bring in crystal meth in her shoe and was found and execute shortly after.

Most violent crime is testosterone. It dissipates after 30. Most violence crime is people 16-35.

The risk of executing innocents is not worth the death penalty. Plenty of countries give 20-30 year prison sentences for murder and they are not total chaos.

Morally against it, but then again civilized human beings' morals don't apply to subhumans.
Against it if used on peers, no qualms with it if used on subhumans like niggers, jews, gypsies, muslims, abbos, and normal people who reject their status and disgrace themselves into subhuman status with their own hands, like rapists, murderers, lobotomized liberals and such human trash.
>>
>>69783593
Against. They will be judged in time.

In the meantime we should move them all to Australia or, failing that, liberal suburbs.
>>
>>69785214
This.
Also, what's even more important is to introduce and legalize torture.
Terrorist and their family must be tortured until death in hopes they will reveal something important.
Their lives don't matter because they're not human beings anyway.
But the absolutely most important thing I believe we should work on is the destruction of the false beliefs that we are all equal, we are all human beings, everyone must have equal rights and every human being inherently deserves rights.
If we're ever to survive in a fair and stable society, we must absolutely genocide those false memes out of the narrative

The death penalty in its current iteration (lethal injection) actually costs more than keeping someone imprisoned for life in the US. This leads me to one or two conclusions:

A) Abolish the death penalty, or
B) Find a cheaper way of killing people

I would actually be fine with bringing back the firing squad because that seems to have a high success rate and doesn't waste time on appeals or anything like if lethal injection gets botched like it seems to always be these days.

Even better, someone could design a fully automated firing squad with, say, 3 rifles that are computer-controlled using a lock-on system that identifies the inmate's head, aligns the rifles to specific points on the head that will kill them instantly, and then engages the trigger mechanically with little to no direct human intervention.

Pro

You can't rehabilitate the type of person who goes out and murders people. The only way to deal with them and make sure theu aren't a menace to society is to kill them
>>
>>69783593

Against, if we put to death just one innocent person as a civilized society that makes us worse than any of those who are guilty.

Also it costs more than life imprisonment at the moment
