Alberta government update

A provincially declared state of emergency for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is in effect.
Fire conditions remain extreme, with 18 new starts yesterday. A total of 49 wildfires are burning, with seven considered out of control, 12 being held, 23 under control, and seven turned over to the responsible parties.
Cooler temperatures of 16 C are predicted, but lower humidity and winds at 25 kilometres, gusting to 40 kilometres per hour, make weather a significant factor.
More than 1,110 firefighters, 145 helicopters, 138 pieces of heavy equipment and 22 air tankers are fighting the fires.
Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for Fort McMurray, Anzac, Gregoire Lake Estates, Fort McMurray First Nation and Mackenzie County near High Level. Residents of evacuated areas should not attempt to return home.
Emergency gas and diesel are temporarily available along Highway 63.
Albertans can call 310-4455 for information and stay up to date on the Alberta Emergency Alert and Alberta Wildfire apps.

As someone posted in an earlier thread. This is a city full of blue collar workers, the majority of them would have First Aid, WHIMIS and other safety training. This means that most everyone was trained in ho to deal with emergencies and to keep panic at a minimum. This leads to a relatively calm evacuation and seriously lowers fatalities

Steel fails at 700-800 degrees C as a structural member. Most steel buildings do not have ready fuel around them to allow a fire like to to burn long enough to make the members fail, but you would have extensive damage.

Not going into 911 conspiracies, but you do know that the entire corner of that building, from the ground to the 16th story had been knocked away by falling debris?

And of course it fell down and not over. It takes massive amounts of energy to knock a building sideways.

Environmentalists refuse to allow the forest to be maintained to reduce the risk of such fires. Many times not even letting forest roads to be built to break up the forest.

Also, this is with the exception of the city and the highways and the actual oil sites these are some of the more remote places in Canada. Outside of Yellowknife and around Lake Abathaska<sp> you really do not have any cities more north that have over 20k people.

I will let a canadian prove me wrong if I am, but it 4-5 hours north of endminton!

Of course it was. No thunderstorms and no lightening. My mother said to me the day before the evacuation was given that the RCMP were in the woods behind her house looking for people on ATVs. It was either caused by that, people on ATVs setting fire to dry grass by hot exhaust, bush parties from backpackers out for a rip on the weekend or was cause by something very common there, niggers/injun stealing cars and taking them out on back roads and setting fire to them. These are only causes to this, outside of nutty conspiracy about eco terrorism.

Trust me, I lived there for 25 years, born and raised.

Not to scare people but we need to be more concerned with a coming war. When I was growing up in Fort Mc during the 80s, it was still common to be taught fallout and nuclear war safety from a preemptive Soviet strike. Why? Because of the oil production starting to kick off well at that time. I remember being told that a small 1kt bomb could hit Syncrude and put all of the municipality in a disaster not just from nuclear fallout but from all the heavy chemicals that would be kicked up in the wake. Now that the city and basically the whole municipality is evacuated, something could kick off.

That was a volcano Stephanopolous they release massive amounts of sulphur

The anon with the red sky unfortunately doesn't realize that it's normal and unrelated to the fire. He is thousands of kilometers away.

when you use a nuclear device there is on winners

you just use it for one purpose and one purpose only

Quebec City doesn't count. It's only in Canada because nobody else would take it and Canadians are too polite to say No Thank You.

What region of Ontario?

Looking to the East red sky at night means there is a high pressure system on the horizon. Red sky in morning means that a low pressure system (storm) is approaching.

I am curious about your location, because there was no red sky here last night.

What is Canada doing with an oil industry anyway? Silly fucking Canadians you're supposed to be extracting maple syrup not oil.
