Why haven't any contrail conspiracy theorists attempted to actually gather scientific data on the contrails? Atmospheric spectroscopy doesn't even require sophisticated equipment - just analyze the millimeter-submillimeter spectrum of light passing through a contrail, and you can figure out what elements are in it. picking up on sulfates or aluminum of fluoride or whatever they think is in there should be pretty simple. surely SOMEONE has been motivated enough to do this, right?

Now increase the size of the "yard" to be sprayed to span hundreds of miles. Now you see the problem. There's the rub. You see, we have air highways and minimum separation. Aircraft are not permitted to be within 1000ft of each other. That's the minimum. There's also the rule of odds for east / evens for west (1000, 3000, 5000, etc for 001-180, and vice versa). You then have to consider that when they also then have to have the most efficient cruise height for wind.
All this means that aircraft are pretty much always flying in completely different environments than what you perceive. Not to say they can't be in similar enough portions of the atmosphere, of course, but enough that you really can't gauge from the ground what the AC is experiencing.
