Getting a job, learning the language, sending your kids to a local school and getting involved in the community are far more important. If you're on the countryside it can't hurt to attend a mass or two.
And yes, it's a pretty nice place to live in. Great nature, ok infrastructure, people don't beat you up if you look at them funny. But be prepared for some pretty high taxes, mandatory social insurance, almost exclusively manual cars and lots of rye bread.
