Today we celebrate the anniversary of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. 73 years ago, the Jewish resistance of Warsaw Ghetto arose against the Nazi German occupant, in an act of opposition against Nazi Germany's final effort to transport the remaining Ghetto population to Treblinka extermination camp. The uprising started on 20 April when the Ghetto refused to surrender to the police commander SS-Brigadeführer Jürgen Stroop, who then ordered the burning of the Ghetto, block by block, ending on 16 May. 13,000 Jews died, about half of them burnt alive or suffocated. German casualties are not known, but were not more than 300. It was the largest single revolt by Jews during World War II.

Jews were settling down in Poland since XIIIth century. Lot of them lived here for centuries. They spoke Polish perfectly, were integrated into a society. A lot of them considered themselves to have both Polish and Jewish nationality, and were members of Polish army.

Because it's true, but they didn't have POW status. All of the ghetto prisoners were civilians rounded up in one place because of German order, based on their ethnicity.
